The 2018 BAFTA Awards are this weekend and I am really excited to see what all of the stars will bring to the red carpet. The BAFTA red carpet is one that can be all over the place from cocktail and ballgowns to suits and dramatic trains, so I never really know which way to go for different stars. I usually live by if you can wear a gown then wear a dramatic gown, and with the blackout on the red carpet I am always an advocate for drama. Allison Janney has been KILLING the game this awards season. She is the favorite to take home the Oscar and has already taken home the Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG Award for her performance in I, Tonya. But with homegrown favorites Leslie Manville and Kristin Scott Thomas also nominated in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category with Allison she might not get the full season sweep. I would love to see her really give the glam on the red carpet just in case though. I would love to see Allison rep a British designer on this red carpet giving a really chic Stella McCartney moment. This black silk and silk-cotton blend evening dress from Stella McCartney featuring an asymmetric neck, a rear zip fastening, a sleeveless design, embroidered details, a long length and a train would definitely do that. The more likely guess is that Allison would wear something custom, but this chic off the rack gown is perfect for the red carpet at the BAFTA’s. Allison’s height and curves would be showcased in such a major moment for her and I want to see her elevate it even further via the styling. I added a little kitsch with a reference to the secret service code name her West Wing character so much despised via a Judith Leiber lace and flamingo crystal encrusted box clutch. Finishing the rest of the look with a romantic updo, smokey eyes, nude lips, a pair of black and silver Charlotte Olympia ankle strap sandals, and David Morris diamond, pink sapphire, and pink coral drop earrings would all really ensure that Allison has a really beautiful moment on the red carpet. While I am rooting for Saoirse Ronan to take home the Best Actress in a Leading Role trophies at the BAFTA’s and Oscars it is looking like Frances McDormand is the critics favorite to take them home. So far this awards season Frances has avoided every red carpet and has worn really uninspired gowns despite winning at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards. I don’t expect that to change anytime soon, so for the BAFTA Awards I decided to pick this black Valentino open-back draped silk cady gown which is finished with an optional bow-embellished strap to stop it slipping off your shoulders, loose silhouette, and a long hem. It is very simple and borderline boring, and I really don’t expect anything really major from Frances when it comes to the styling either. A simple wave hairstyle, burgundy red lips, and a pair of black Valentino ‘Rockstud’ pumps are all I think that Frances would add to this look. I read that the gorgeous Keira Knightley is on the hunt for a really chic black gown for the 2018 BAFTA Awards, though I don’t know if she is presenting or just attending or if she will even be there at all actually. When I saw her name in a news article I was like well its a shame that she already wore that black Chanel culotte tuxedo for the Sundance Film Festival, because that would have been a really chic moment for the BAFTA’s to partake in the red carpet blackout. I stuck with Keira’s favorite brand but went for something much more classic with this black lace Chanel Spring 2018 Couture gown which features cap sleeves, a v-neck, crystal button details, a tiered skirt, and a high low hem. Classic elegance is always something that is a winning look for Keira and I definitely think that she would sell this look to me on the BAFTA Awards red carpet. I think that this gown would be a really major moment on this red carpet with a pair of black Sophia Webster butterfly detail peep toe sandals, a romantic updo, smokey eyes, red lips, and a pair of Chanel Fine Jewelry diamond and onyx cluster earrings.Natalie Dormer helped announce the nominations for the 2018 BAFTA Awards last month and I am really interested in seeing if she will step out on Sunday night as a presenter. I had a chic Alberta Ferretti gown picked gown for Natalie, but then I saw the Christian Siriano Fall 2018 RTW collection. I wanted to put this dramatic black, strapless Christian Siriano Fall 2018 RTW crystal embellished ballgown on the red carpet on my wishes for the BAFTA Awards because I think that it would really be a major moment on the BAFTA Awards blacked out red carpet. Natalie could really ensure that this beautiful and dramatic gown is owned on the red carpet. While it might not be her night I feel like if Natalie stepped out on this red carpet wearing this gown that she would shoot to the top of the Best Dressed list. I would love to see Natalie give us nothing but glamour styling this look with a sleek updo, kohl rimmed eyes, red lips, black glitter Jimmy Choo ‘Emily’ sandals, and a pair of Chopard diamond chandelier earrings. For the most part we have seen Sally Hawkins exclusively wearing Christian Dior on the awards season red carpets this year, but there have been a few steps out from that norm. I would love to see Sally step out for the BAFTA Awards on Sunday night, where she is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, once again expanding her repertoire of designers. I saw this black leaf embroidered Giambattista Valli Spring 2018 Couture long sleeve gown last month and I immediately thought of Sally, and I was going to save it for the Oscars, but with the BAFTA blackout taking place I changed my mind and thought that this would be the perfect place for Sally to wear it. I want to edit the look just a little. The sheer illusion paneling on the bodice of the gown is really jarring to me. Personally I would have the gown fully lined for Sally and have the plunge closed up to make the look just a little more modest. I would add a black silk Judith Leiber Couture ‘Madison’ bow clutch, loose waves, smokey eyes, a rose pink lip, black Manolo Blahnik ‘Sicariata’ crystal ankle strap pumps, and a pair of Graziela ‘Princesa’ diamond and emerald wreath earrings to really ensure that Sally delivers us a gorgeous moment on the BAFTA Awards red carpet.
The 2018 BAFTA Awards are Sunday February 18, 2018.
