Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my fabulous readers! I hope you have plans with someone you love be it a significant other, friends, or family! Today I kick off my little break from my Oscar parties wishes to give some insight into what I want to see on the red carpet at this years BAFTA Awards on Sunday. The BAFTA Awards are the British version of the Academy Awards, but they don’t really hold much weight about who will take home an Oscar early next month. On the red carpet at this year BAFTA Awards we will have our second #RedCarpetBlackout to stand in solidarity with the #MeToo and #TimesUp. So like the Golden Globe Awards red carpet we will most likely see a sea of black from beginning to end. Annette Bening has been absent from all the awards show this year, but has earned a Best Actress in a Leading Role nomination at the 2018 BAFTA Awards for her performance in Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool. Annette isn’t known as one of the most fashionable stars out there, but I know that she can deliver a chic moment when she tries. I would love to see her step onto this red carpet wearing this black Michael Kors gown which features cape sleeves, flattering stretch-tulle silhouette, and neck to hem beading. The gown isn’t revolutionary by any means, but I definitely think that it would be a true style moment for Annette. I would just finish this look with chic hair, defined eyes behind her thick rimmed glasses, a red lip, black Judith Leiber Couture ‘Slim Slide’ crystal evening clutch, and a pair of black low heel Stuart Weitzman sleek patent slingback pumps to really ensure that this is a beautiful moment for Annette. This might be what I want to see her wear, but in all reality we will probably see Annette on the BAFTA Awards red carpet wearing a chic black suit. If she is on the red carpet at all. Florence Pugh is a young star and I am really interested in seeing what she will wear on the BAFTA Awards red carpet where she is nominated for the EE Rising Star Award. I have only seen her in Lady Macbeth and I have to say that she is a really talented actress since that whole movie was basically just her and despite it being really long she did keep me interested the whole time. We have only seen her on one red carpet when she was nominated at the British Independent Film Awards and she wore a custom sage green Miu Miu gown. That was chic, even if it did give me Natalie Portman at the Oscars in Lanvin vibes. For the BAFTA Awards I went for another chic moment with this 20’s inspired velvet Christian Dior Pre-Fall 2018 sleeveless gown which features a plunging neckline and sheer embroidered details. I would imagine that Florence will wear a custom Prada or Miu Miu gown on Sunday night, but I think that this chic Dior moment would be perfection rounded out with old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, nude lips, black Christian Dior suede slingback feathered pumps, and a pair of Chopard white diamond peacock feather drop earrings.Margot Robbie started awards season on a rocky footing, but recently she hasn’t worn a thing I haven’t liked. I am really expecting really major things from Margot on every red carpet that she steps out for between now and the Oscars. For the #BAFTAblackout I decided to dig into the Elie Saab Couture archives for this gorgeous black beaded one shoulder gown from the labels Spring 2011 Couture collection. This is one of the few gowns from that collection that has never actually been worn. This collection got a whole lot of wear on the red carpet. Almost every single gown and cocktail dress that came down this runway has been worn at some point or another. I think that this blackout red carpet would be the perfect time for Margot to pull this gorgeous gown out of the archives, dust it off, and give it the red carpet moment that it definitely deserves. Style it in such a glamorous way with a romantic updo, defined eyes, red lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Follies’ strass embellished mesh pumps, and a pair of black and white diamond Van Cleef & Arpels high jewelry pendant wing earrings to really ensure that this is a really gorgeous red carpet moment for Margot, maybe her best from awards season so far! Saoirse Ronan is my favorite to take home the Best Leading Actress Oscar, but at the BAFTA’s it really could be anyone’s race. British stars tend to be the focus and Saoirse’s Irish roots could deliver her some sort of luck this year to take home the Best Actress in a Leading Role trophy at the 2018 BAFTA Awards. I went through so many ideas when it came to Saoirse’s look for this red carpet. I have a feeling that she will end up wearing a custom gown from one of the big British brands like Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Emilia Wickstead, Osman, or Erdem. I went through all of those collections, but there wasn’t anything that I thought worked for Saoirse. I ultimately decided on taking this black Prada sleeveless gown which features a rounded v-neck, pleated a-line skirt, and a necklace jeweled neckline and wishing that it had a long train to make it a really dramatic moment on the BAFTA Awards red carpet. This would be a really chic moment on BAFTA red carpet and I know that it would make for a real winning moment. I decided that I would send a bit of Ireland with Saoirse to this red carpet via a pair of statement emerald and diamond David Morris earrings. Rounding the look out with a pair of black Sophia Webster ‘Winona’ flower embroidered sandals, a sleek updo, smokey eyes, and pink lips would ensure head to toe perfection. I have really high expectations for EE Rising Star Award nominee Tessa Thompson to rock the red carpet at the 2018 BAFTA Awards. She has consistently delivered really glam, dramatic, edgy, and high fashion moments on the red carpet. For the BAFTA’s on Sunday I would love to see Tessa give us all glamour wearing this black Ashi Studio Spring 2018 Couture strapless ballgown which features beaded stripe details. I have been waiting for the right person to rock this gown on the red carpet, and I feel like it Tessa would be able to really shut this major glam moment on the red carpet. I would add old Hollywood waves, defined eyes, hot pink lips, black glitter Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ pointed toe pumps, and statement Chopard Loves Rihanna multicolored stone floral earrings to ensure that this is just a head to toe moment.
The 2018 BAFTA Awards are Sunday February 18, 2018.
