I am taking a quick break from my wishes for the 2018 Berlin Film Festival to cover just a few other red carpets that are set to take place over the next couple of weeks. One red carpet I look forward to every year is the César Awards in Paris. The best of French cinema gather and celebrate their films and they know how to bring the fashON to the red carpet. They know how to bring the couture factor to the red carpets and I am really excited to see what the guests this year will bring to the red carpet. Diane Kruger didn’t earn a César Award nomination this year, but she was a guest at the César Revelations event last month (wearing Chanel) and I would bet that she will be on the red carpet at the main awards show this year as well. You know I love me a Diane Kruger moment on the red carpet and I am sure that if she steps out on this red carpet that she will have another beautiful moment on her hands. It actually surprises me that Diane is the only person on this list that I didn’t pick a couture gown for, instead opting for this black Valentino Pre-Fall 2018 gown which features dramatic ruffled sleeves, beaded embellishments on the shoulders, and a velvet bodysuit over a sheer a-line skirt. The idea of Diane in this gown spoke to me. She is one of the very few stars who I think could rock this gown without taking it into tacky-ville. There are only a handful of stars who can wear sheer skirts on the red carpet and not end up looking desperate or trashy. I would add really glamorous styling including a 40’s inspired updo, defined eyes, a bold red lip, a black Judith Leiber Couture herringbone crystal rectangle clutch, a pair of statement black Gianvito Rossi ‘Crystal Opera’ serpentine ankle wrap sandals, and Cartier Haute Jewelry diamond and ruby art deco chandelier earrings to ensure that this gown is all perfection head to toe. Juliette Binoche is nominated for the Best Actress award at the 2018 César Awards for her performance in Bright Sunshine In (Un Beau Soleil Intérieur.) We have seen very little of Juliette since she attended the closing ceremony at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. I immediately thought an Armani Prive moment would be a great idea for Juliette to wear on this red carpet. I think that this midnight blue Armani Prive Fall 2015 Couture column gown which features a velvet bodice with a plunging neckline and long sleeves, and an ombré feather and beaded fringe embellished skirt would be a really beautiful moment for Juliette. She wore a similar gown from this same collection at the 2015 Venice Film Festival, which might be a deterring factor for her, but I think that the two gowns are different enough and the timeline between the two events is far enough away that we would have no issues with this look being compared to the other. Add a sleek updo, smokey eye, bold pink lips, a pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Betty’ crystal embellished strappy sandals, and a pair of Chopard Loves Rihanna diamond ear-crawling ear cuffs would all really ensure that Juliette will give us edgy glam on this red carpet. Lea Seydoux, like Diane, is just one who I am expecting to see at the 2018 César Awards after she attended the César Revelations gala last month. I have been very meh about what Lea has done with her time as a Louis Vuitton ambassador and I am stepping aside from the brand for the gown I want to see her rock on the red carpet later this month. While the LV gown that Lea wore for the César Revelations was alright, it is nothing compared to her past history with many major moments from designers like Prada, Miu Miu, and Elie Saab. I went back into the Elie Saab archive to pick this gorgeous peach and gold Elie Saab Fall 2012 Couture sleeveless a-line chiffon gown to really ensure that Lea is on the top of her games again. I know that this is a bit of a stretch because of that Louis Vuitton contract, and I am hoping that the Vuitton reign of terror will end soon. This peach Elie Saab gown would look incredible against Lea’s alabaster skin and I think that if she added gold Louis Vuitton accessories including a pair of ‘Petal’ lucite heel sandals and a logo emblazoned clutch would add a touch of the brand to this beautiful ensemble. A sleek updo, smokey eye, and a light pink lip all would round out this ensemble perfectly. Marion Cotillard has been sporting her edgier style since the Cannes Film Festival last year where it was confirmed that her Dior contract had finally come to an end. She has been enjoying front rows of all kinds of great designers both ready to wear and couture, and I am praying that she will be on the red carpet at the 2018 César Awards later this month. She (like most on this list) was a guest at the César Revelations Gala last month (wearing holographic Balmain pants) and then did a tour of front rows at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. One of the many front rows that Marion graced was at Jean Paul Gaultier’s Pierre Cardin inspired Spring 2018 Couture collection, and I decided to pick one of my favorite looks from that runway for her to wear for the César Awards. This navy and white herringbone woven halter gown which features a fringed skirt is definitely a really visual moment and I think that it would speak to this edgier style that Marion has fully embraced over the last year. I would really up the glam of this look with a navy and silver striped Edie Parker ‘Jean’ confetti acrylic clutch, a sleek top knot updo, navy simple smokey eyes, a pair of navy Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Sophie’ sandals, bold red lips, and a selection of Chopard High Jewelry diamond and sapphire jewels including a pair of wreath style earrings and a statement cocktail ring.Penelope Cruz will receive the Honorary César this year and I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet. So far this year whether it be in Ralph & Russo, Stella McCartney, or Atelier Versace Penelope has been serving beautiful red carpets moments and I am really excited to see what more she has in store for us. I was worried that with several of her appearances since the premiere of her film Loving Pablo last year that Penelope’s relationship with Versace was ruined (thanks to her role in ACS: The Assassination of Gianni Versace,) but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I did still however go into the Ralph & Russo archives for the perfect gown for Penelope to wear for the César Awards. I think that this navy and black strapless Ralph & Russo Fall 2014 Couture strapless ball gown which features intricate feather and beaded embroidery on the bodice and down onto the skirt. Big ball gown’s are necessarily the norm on the red carpet at the César Awards, but since Penelope is getting a high honor I say go big or go home. Add a sleek updo, smokey eye, nude lips, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ glitter pointed toe pumps, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond and sapphire cluster earrings to ensure that Penelope will deliver dramatic glamour on this red carpet.
