We are just four days away from the 2018 Grammy Awards and I am really excited to see what all of the stars are going to bring to this years red carpet. I mentioned yesterday that I wonder if the new location at Madison Square Garden will change the expected route of style for this years red carpet. Kicking off today’s wishes is Alessia Cara, who is nominated for four Grammy’s including Best New Artist and will be performing her song “1-800-273-8255” with Logic and Khalid. When it comes to style Alessia isn’t one who is going to give us dramatic, frothy couture on the red carpet. She has stayed really true to her style and I applaud her for that. For the Grammy’s though I took her signature tough and edgy style and glammed it up just a little bit. I think that this Alexander Wang Resort 2018 gown which features a strapless leather bustier and a pleated ivory skirt is a perfect glam example of Alessia’s style and I think that it would be a really great Grammy gown for her. When it came to the styling I knew to keep it simple with natural bouncy curls, barely there makeup, and adding another tough element via a pair of black patent Dr. Martens ‘Kendra’ lace up boots to keep this look authentically Alessia. I absolutely love Kesha. She is real and extra and she cares about people but doesn’t seem to give a f**k about what people think about her. She has this incredibly avant garde sense of styling, but honestly there hasn’t been a single look from her in the last year that I have really loved and I want that to change on Sunday at the Grammy’s, where she is nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Praying” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Rainbow and is performing. I decided to step out of the normal brands that I think of for big red carpet events and pick this blue, red, and yellow patchwork plaid Sacai Spring 2018 RTW peasant dress inspired gown which features cold shoulders, buckled straps, billowing sleeves, a defined waist, and a sheer pleated skirt. This gown is not for the faint of heart, and it definitely not going to be for everyone’s taste, but I think that it speaks to Kesha’s style. Kesha herself isn’t for everyone’s taste, so why should her gown? I think that if she wore this gown with a yellow highlighted high messy bun, navy glittered smokey eyes, a red lip, and a pair of gold Charlotte Olympia ‘Dree’ sculpted heel platform sandals that Kesha would have her best red carpet moment ever.Lana Del Rey isn’t usually one of my favorites to see on the red carpet. I usually feel like she doesn’t try hard enough. She made me eat those words when she shut down the 2017 EMA’s red carpet wearing a bold floral Gucci gown, so now I have some high expectations for her. Lana is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for “Lust For Life” and on the red carpet I went to a bohemian take on 40’s glam and menswear with this navy silk jacquard Dolce & Gabbana Secret Show tuxedo which features a structured blazer with a shawl lapel, wide leg pants, and a white shirt with a big navy silk bow. What really makes this looks stand out is the beautiful bold colored floral embroidery up the pant legs, on the shoulders, and on the sleeves of the blazer. I am pretty much on a D&G boycott right now, but this look was the one that I saw that spoke Lana’s style the most to me so here we are. Classic old Hollywood waves, a thick winged eye, rose pink lip, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Cross Fliketa’ strappy pumps, and yellow diamond Chopard cluster drop earrings all would ensure that this is another beautiful moment for Lana.Maren Morris has come a long way with her style since last year’s Grammy Awards. Back then she was wearing Michael Costello for everything, now she is working with stylist Thomas Carter Phillips (who also dresses Emmy Rossum, Millie Bobby Brown, and Danai Gurira.) TCP knows how to help a girl into a style star and he is working his magic on Maren. For the Grammy Awards this weekend I went very chic with this navy-blue Balmain jersey maxi dress which features a deep V-neckline, accented at the shoulders and nipped-in waist with signature lacing through gold eyelets, before falling to a floor-grazing hem that’s spliced with a front slit for a bold finish. This gown might be more of a standard off the rack Balmain dress, but I think that it is perfect for a rising style star like Maren. She is nominated for Best Country Solo Performance for “I Could A Love Song” and will join fellow country stars Eric Church and Brothers Osbourne to in a performance in tribute to those who were lost at the mass shooting at the Route 91 festival in Las Vegas last year. Finish the look with a sleek bob hairstyle, simple smokey eye, red lips, a navy satin Judith Leiber Couture coffered rectangle crystal embellished clutch, navy Casadei fringe and sequin embellished sandals, and a selection of Martin Katz jewels including statement diamond and sapphire disc earrings and an asymmetrical diamond cocktail ring.I am going to go on the record and say that Pink was ROBBED on a nomination for Album of the Year for her album “Beautiful Trauma.” It was my favorite album of last year. I remember the first time I listened to it. I felt like I had a religious experience when I listened to it. It gave me so many different feels. So when the only nomination it received was Best Pop Solo Performance for “What About Us” I was shocked. In addition to her singular nomination Pink will grace the Grammy stage with a performance on Sunday night. Pink has a very unpredictable style. It can go from frothy and feminine to punk and edgy in span of a few days. For the Grammy Awards red carpet I went with a much edgier look with this black leather Monse Spring 2018 RTW dress which features a white laced timed tank neckline and a silk ribbon pleated midi hem for Pink to wear to rock on this red carpet. I definitely think that Pink could have Monse take those pleats and make them hit the floor to make this a really perfect moment for the Grammy’s red carpet. I think that a pair of black and white Francesco Russo pointed detail sandals, a curly coif, smokey eye, nude lips, and statement Yeprem diamond ear cuff all would really make this look perfect for Pink.I didn’t have much to go on when I was searching for a look for Best Rap/Sung Performance nominee SZA to wear on the red carpet. I had a photo of her attending the first Fenty x Puma show and wearing a Phillip Plein gown, and that was really it. It will be interesting to see what she will bring to the red carpet this weekend. What I have seen it seems like SZA likes to go for edgy yet glam looks, so when I saw this gold liquid sequin Greta Constantine Spring 2018 RTW jumpsuit which featured flared sleeves and pants and a plunging neckline I thought it fit that bill perfectly. A jumpsuit for the Grammy’s red carpet isn’t particularly the first thing someone thinks of, but it totally works. The only rule of the Grammy’s red carpet is that there are no rules and that you should be authentically yourself. I do think that this would do just that for SZA. Her hair in her signature teased out style, a simple defined eye, nude lips, a pair of gold Christian Louboutin ‘Botticella Alta’ platform sandals, and Jacob & Co. yellow and black diamond leopard pattern hoop earrings all would add the perfect finishing touches to this look.
The 2018 Grammy Awards will take place on Sunday January 28, 2018.
