The Pre-Fall 2018 collections started being presented almost 2 months ago now and have pretty much all been shown at this point. We have already seen stars snatching up looks from these collections such as Cate Blanchett in Preen, Gigi Hadid in Sally LaPointe, Kate Bosworth in Brock Collection, Alessandra Masteroni in Chanel, Nicole Kidman in Carolina Herrera, Saoirse Ronan in Cushnie et Ochs, and Tracee Ellis Ross in Balmain. There are still many moments that I want to happen. You have already see some of the gowns from the Pre-Fall 2018 collection in my wishes for other events, but these are my 10 Must See Red Carpet Moments From Pre-Fall 2018. Carolina Herrera: It was a modern moment for Carolina Herrera this season. She has been working with designer Wes Gordon on her collections recently and they have all breathed a new life into the classic Herrera woman. This insanely beautiful gown which features a fitted black bodice and a multi-color pleated, A-line tulle skirt was a real moment and I am sure that it will make a red carpet appearance at some point. I think that the gorgeous Lupita Nyong’o would be drawn to the rainbow of colors in this gown and thus give it a real major moment. The model twirling the skirt in the lookbook might help push that idea since we know Lupita is the queen of using a gown to the full potential of its dramatics.
Chanel: Usually there is a look from Chanel in every pre-collection wish list, and this was no different. I will say I was really disappointed with this collection overall, but there are many moments that I can really see becoming red carpet moments. Regular readers will know I love me a feathered moment on the red carpet and I was drawn to this black and white feathered mini dress which really just screams Blake Lively to me.Christian Siriano: I have a love/hate relationship with Christian Siriano. Sometimes (okay a lot of the time) I feel like he takes things just a little too far. It can be like he never learned the wise words of Coco Chanel. But I will say that I was thoroughly in the love category with his Pre-Fall 2018 collection. So many beautiful modern glam moments and I an sure that they are destined for all kinds of red carpet moments coming up. My favorite piece was this metallic grey ball gown which features a really dramatic skirt, plunging neckline, and delicate floral embroidery all over. Since last awards season we haven’t seen much of Janelle Monae on the red carpet, but I feel like this gown would be right up her ally.
Delpozo: Spanish label Delpozo is always one that I get really excited about. Honestly before I even thought about who I would put the clothes on for the red carpet I thought how gorgeous the pictures in this lookbook are. I would love to have them blown up for the walls of my house, and the clothes in them are amazing. The collection was inspired by the colors of tropical birds and the shapes taken inspiration by the structures of skylines. I think that is what makes Delpozo such a great brand creative director Josep Font isn’t afraid of playing with structure, volume, embellishment, or color. There were a lot of looks with amazing potential in this collection, but this turquoise, burgundy and red color blocked column gown which features a strapless neckline, sequin embellishment on the waist, and a tulle hem really spoke to me. It is modern yet classic and I definitely think that a statuesque queen like Naomie Harris would definitely sell this look to me on a red carpet.Huishan Zhang: Because I fit so many designers into consideration for this list (I considered over 70 collections) sometimes it can be dominated by just the big names. I do like to slip some of the less loved brands into these lists, because I can really fall in love with the idea of one of the more unknown designers on the back of a star and that is exactly what happened when I saw this black Huishan Zhang feathered gown. I immediately pictured it on Diane Kruger and the magic moment hasn’t ceased to exist in the back of my ever since.
Moschino: I love me some Moschino. Overall Moschino by Jeremy Scott is incredibly extra and you sometimes have to strip back the extra to see some of the really great pieces that walk a Moschino runway. The last 4 Moschino pre-collections have been incorporated into the brands menswear shows and that is exactly what happened yet again. The sexy S&M meets femme fatale old Hollywood collection needed less stripping back than most. This silver beaded fringe scoop neck gown is gorgeous. I am surprised that Jeremy didn’t style this gown with a crazy cape or jacket or a leather harness, but I am glad he didn’t. I totally think Kate Bosworth would make it a beautiful red carpet moment. Oscar de la Renta: Overall I have been a big fan of what Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim have done over at Oscar de la Renta. The two have really taken the codes that the late Oscar de la Renta had laid out over his lifetime and really took them into a new and modern era. The Oscar de la Renta woman has widened to feature people whom I never would have thought of as Oscar girls in years prior. Structure was the name of the game overall, but this off tulle gown which features a gold beaded empire bodice and off white pleated skirt was definitely one of the highlight of the collection for me. Immediately Elle Fanning on the red carpet in Cannes came to mind, and I am praying that this moment happens.
Stella McCartney: It was just earlier this week that the celeb pack showed up in Hollywood for an amazing Stella-bration for the Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2018 and Fall 2018 Menswear presentation. I love that Stella pulls out all the stops for these parties bringing out all kinds of stars and a lineup of musical guests that rival the likes of Coachella. As you can see most of the looks in this list are gowns, but I was really drawn to this day-glow leopard print knit two piece ensemble from Stella. It is a bold moment that I think would be a great option for Katy Perry to bring to the judges panel for the reboot of American Idol. Versace: Since the tribute collection back in September Donatella Versace has been killing every single collection. The brand has been less about cocktail dresses and gowns and more about great pieces that one would want to incorporate into their everyday wardrobes. A bold striking moment for street style would be Bella Hadid wearing this red patent leather cropped moto jacket, mini shift dress, thick knit turtleneck, matching thigh high boots and chain strap quilted bag. I know that Bella has some of the best street style moments and I think that this could just be another major style moment for her.
Zac Posen: Last but not least is one of the first looks I knew would make this list. Zac Posen was one of the first designers to show his Pre-Fall 2018 collection and I am honestly thankful that there was the black gown protest at the Golden Globes, because I really wanted to put this plum purple silk tulle ball gown which features a strapless neckline, full layered tulle skirt, and hidden corset bodice on this list. I definitely believe that if the Globes red carpet hadn’t been a #BLACKOUT in solidarity of Time’s Up that we would have seen this gown on the red carpet. Allison Williams has been turning out in high style to help promote her film Get Out and I think that this would be a really great option for many of the big red carpets that are coming up, maybe the BAFTA Awards or on Oscars night.
