The funny ladies of television can be very up and down when it comes to the red carpet. I don’t know why, but it’s true. I am PRAYING that on the SAG Awards red carpet that the stars of VEEP, Orange is the New Black, and Black-ish all bring the glam to the red carpet. Kicking off this set of wishes is VEEP star Anna Chlumsky is one that I do find to be one of the most up and down. I know she has potential to wear gorgeous things but sometimes I feel like the fit is off, she chooses over-complicated designs, or the construction of her gowns is just poor. I want to see her make a really chic choice for this red carpet. The SAG red carpet is more relaxed than events like the Emmy’s or Golden Globe Awards, so I think that this viridian green Cushnie et Ochs Pre-Fall 2018 gown which features a streamlined silhouette with a single short flutter sleeve and side slit with a ruffle detail would be a really great option. It defines modern bohemian glamour and I definitely think that Anna would pull off this gown with great aplomb. Sleek styling including sleek center parted hair like the gown was paired with in the lookbook, rose pink lips, a kelly green Nancy Gonzalez small frame crocodile clutch, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals, and a selection of Belladora jewels including a pair of emerald and diamond flower stud earrings, a gold bordered dome cuff bracelet, and a diamond and emerald cocktail ring will all ensure that Anna will definitely shut down her red carpet moment.Danielle Brooks can kill the red carpet, and I am hoping that she does just that this Sunday. I will say Danielle’s style has been a little edgier lately than what her history has put out. Given her history I would say that Danielle will wear Christian Siriano for the SAG Awards red carpet since the two times (once in 2015 and once in 2017) that she did attend the SAG’s that she wore looks from the designer. The blue gown she wore in 2015 is still one of my favorite looks of her, but her look last year reminded me more of a bride of Frankenstein than awards show red carpet. Christian has been a real champion of dressing women with curves on the red carpet in addition to sending models of all different sizes down his runways during New York Fashion Week. For the SAG Awards I went to the Christian Siriano Spring 2018 RTW and this fuchsia silk crepe slip gown which features a v-neckline, thin straps, thigh-high slit at left leg, and a train at back. I think that this gown is a totally dramatic gown and a real statement for someone with curves to bring to the red carpet. What this gown needs to be a really great moment on the red carpet will be the wearer having a whole lot of confidence, and that is something that Danielle definitely has. To finish this look out I would add a pair of hot pink suede Schutz ‘Monia’ knotted sandals, a fun pink Judith Leiber Couture french fries rainbow clutch, sleek updo, smokey eye, a dark berry lip, a pair of floating pink sapphire Anita Ko earrings, and a pink sapphire and pave diamond Anita Ko orchid coil ring.Dascha Polanco is one of the stars who I really wish was consistent with her red carpet style. I know that she could really be a style star, but sadly I feel like she lets me down a little too often. If she is on the red carpet at the SAG Awards this weekend I really want to see her deliver a really major moment. I turned to Sachin + Babi to pick a really great gown from their Pre-Fall 2018 collection. Sachin + Babi is one of the brands that has crafted gowns for real women with curves for the red carpet. It was with that idea in mind that the moment I saw this black one sleeve gown which features a red and white stripe embroidered waist and silver sequined bow details that I immediately thought of Dasha. This gown is classic and edgy all at the same time and I think that is exactly what Dasha needs to have a really great moment on the red carpet. A sleek updo, smokey eye, dark red lip, black RAYE ‘Brynne’ platform sandals, and a pair of gorgeous Alexandre Reza diamond and ruby hoop earrings would all make this a major moment for Dascha.Taylor Schilling was the main star of Orange is the New Black and she caught the eye of the fashion industry, but this last season saw the focus shift further away from her as a central character and definitely make this show much more of an ensemble series. I want to see Taylor deliver a really chic fashion moment on this red carpet by showing up wearing this sleek white one sleeve Gabriela Hearst Fall 2017 RTW column gown. It has seemed like Gabriela has become one of the cult classic brands that fashion ‘IT’ girls are striving to get their hands on. With her history of ‘it’ brands including Thakoon, ADEAM, Stella McCartney, and Peter Pilotto I feel like a Gabriela Hearst gown shouldn’t be much of a reach. I’m honestly surprised that after almost a year since this gown was first presented that not a single soul has snatched it up for the red carpet, but Taylor would definitely give it the moment it deserves. A romantic updo, defined eye, light pink lips, white velvet Tyler Ellis ‘Lily’ clutch, a pair of white Gianvito Rossi ‘Bra Strap’ napa leather sandals, and a pair of statement multicolored gemstone Irene Neuwirth earrings all would ensure that this gown gets the red carpet moment that it deserves. Tracee Ellis Ross has become one of my favorite ladies to see on the red carpets. It really started last May when she started working with power stylist Karla Welch at the Met Gala, and ever since the two have just made magic ever since. Tracee rocks color incredibly well so I decided to go for bold color with this fuchsia and poppy pink Brandon Maxwell Spring 2018 RTW chiffon gown features a wrap halter neckline, exposed waist, and front slit. This gown was one of my favorites from all of the Spring 2018 RTW collections and I would really hate to see it lost to the archive, so I feel like the SAG Awards are one of the final possible moments that we might see the gown on the red carpet for and Tracee definitely could really give it the major moment it so desperately needs. Add a big bouncy afro hairstyle, simple defined eyes, a red lip, gold Edie Parker ‘Jean’ lizard leather clutch, a pair of Rene Caovilla multicolored stone embellished sandals, and simple champagne diamond and pearl H. Stern drop earrings to ensure head to toe perfection.Rounding out the nominated stars is the gorgeous Yara Shahidi. Yara has become a favorite of mine over the last year. She has become a strong dresser and knows how to just ooze glamour and confidence on the red carpet. For the SAG Awards I want to see Yara give us a 60’s moment on the red carpet with this peachy pink Viktor & Rolf Sior Spring 2018 gown which features a sculptural sleeved bodice, a sweet peter pan collar, and an a-line skirt made up of tiered graphic layers of tulle ruffles each boasting their own sparkling embroidered border. I remember seeing this collection in simple studio photographs during New York Fashion Week in last September and I fell immediately in love, and I have to say that I have been impressed with how the looks have translated to the red carpet. I think that on Yara with a sleek high bun, a smokey eye, rose pink lip, antique rose Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crystal sphere heel sandals, and a selection of Avakian white, pink, and yellow diamond earrings and cocktail ring that this would be another win for the brand on the relaunch of RTW formal wear.
The 2018 SAG Awards will take place on Sunday January 21, 2018.
