The race for Best Supporting Actress has been a two horse race since the beginning. Unlike the leading categories there is only one supporting categories so who takes home these awards early can be very good predictors of who will take home the Oscar in this category. When I look at the ladies that are nominated in this category they aren’t necessarily all the people that I first think of when it comes to the red carpet, but overall they have delivered some really chic moments on the red carpet since the start of awards season.Allison Janney is my favorite to take home the little gold man at the end of awards season, and thus is my favorite to take home the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Award in this category. Allison has always been one that wears something pretty, but never was one that really took the red carpet by storm. So far this year she has worn some very chic moments on the red carpet wearing a dark green Lela Rose gown on the Palm Springs Film Festival red carpet and black and white Mario Dice for the Golden Globe Awards, so I have some high expectations to continue to see her grow over the rest of awards season. For the SAG Awards red carpet I think that this incredibly chic wine velvet Monique Lhuillier strapless, column gown which features stunning floral embroidery. I think that this gown is beautiful and simple. The styles we see on the SAG red carpet are usually much simpler than we see at the Globes and the Oscars, so I think that this would make for a beautiful moment. One thing that Allison has been consistent with this season are her really great jewelry selections, so I decided that a pair of vintage Van Cleef & Arpels ruby and diamond chandelier earrings would compliment the gown perfectly and continue her A+ jewelry run. Adding a pair of sangria velvet RAYE ‘Blake’ sandals, Veronica Lake waves over one shoulder, a bold defined eye, and a matching ruby lip all would ensure that this is a real winning moment for Allison.Holly Hunter has chosen very simple looks so far this awards season. I think that for the SAG Awards that Holly should have a really glamorous moment and I think that this light gold sequined Badgley Mischka Spring 2018 RTW gown which features long sleeves, plunging neckline, silver beaded waistline, and a column silhouette would give her just that. I feel like the classic Hollywood glam of this moment would be very chic for the SAG Awards red carpet. I feel like that if Holly styled this gown with a romantic updo, defined eyes, a light pink lip, gold Jimmy Choo ‘Selina’ glitter strappy sandals, and a pair of princess cut Harry Winston white and yellow diamond drop earrings would ensure that Holly would totally own this very glamour on the red carpet at the SAG Awards.Hong Chau is one that I want to really see grow over the course of awards season. She has given some really great moments on the red carpet in the past, and I think that despite her meh Stella McCartney gown at the Golden Globe Awards that we will really see major moment from her over the rest of awards season. For the SAG Awards red carpet I decided to take the risk and make a wish for Hong to wear Marchesa on the SAG Awards red carpet. We haven’t seen a single Marchesa red carpet moment since last September, when the Harvey Weinstein allegations started, and I have said it before and I will say it again. I don’t believe that his wife or her brand should be punished for his despicable actions. There were so many beautiful moments in the Marchesa Spring 2018 RTW collection that really deserve red carpet moments, but sadly they are getting lost to the archives. I think that Hong would look so beautiful wearing this rose pink Marchesa Spring 2018 RTW ombré tiered gown which features a strapless neckline, draped tulle skirt, and silk organza 3D floral textured details and I think that it would be a really glam moment on the SAG Awards red carpet. Style the gown with a pair of nude Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudist’ sandals, a romantic updo, silver smokey eyes, pink lips, and a pair of chic white and pink diamond Harry Winston cluster drop earrings to ensure that this gown is really given the red carpet moment it deserves. Laurie Metcalf is the other horse in this race I think. While Allison won the Globe, Laurie has picked up 22 other Best Supporting Actress honors for her performance in Lady Bird while Allison has only picked up 15. This award unlike the rest is voted on entirely by actors. The SAG Awards is actors showing other actors love. So this is a really good predictor of who will take home the Oscar. In the last 10 years nine of the winners in this category have gone on to win the Oscar in this category as well. I feel like we will see Laurie’s style really step up. Like I said about Frances McDormand yesterday I have this feeling Laurie will be one of the dark horse stars who ends up wearing some coveted couture on the Oscars red carpet. I’m starting that at the SAG Awards by picking this black Schiaparelli Fall 2017 Couture long sleeve gown which features built in jewelry embellishments and a pleated skirt. I of course would have the bodice and skirt lined black to keep this look incredibly sophisticated and let the crystal beaded jewelry embroidery be the real statement of this look. Laurie tends to opt for shapes that make her look older and dowdy and I think that this is a look that would really show glamour and elegance for the SAG Awards red carpet. A pair of black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals, simple updo, bold eyes, and pink lips all would allow for the gown to be the statement of this look. Rounding out today’s wishes is Mary J. Blige. I have to say I was disappointed in the custom Alberta Ferretti gown that Mary wore for the Golden Globe Awards. She had been giving us a very different side of her style while promoting Mudbound and I feel like that gown was just a regression to the edgy, more hip-hoppy inspired looks of her music career. I want to see her give dramatic glamour from now until the Academy Awards when she steps onto a film awards red carpet. I think that for the SAG Awards that Mary would shut that shit down wearing this black Azzi & Osta Spring 2018 Couture strapless gown which features intricate bronze beaded embroidery, a structured sweetheart neckline, and a sculpted ruffled peplum. This gown is nothing but dramatic glamour and I really think that if anyone could really make it work on the red carpet that Mary would shut it down. A sleek high bun, smokey eye, red lips, black Christian Louboutin ‘Fetish’ peep toe platform pumps, and a pair of golden pearl and black diamond deGrisogono earrings all would ensure that Mary just oozes dramatic glamour on the SAG Awards red carpet.
The 2018 SAG Awards will be held on Sunday January 21, 2018.
