Today kicks off my wishes for the2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet. To kick these wishes off I want to focus on Kristen Bell who will be the first ever host of a Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet. For the first time in the 24 year history of the show the show traditionally opens with actors saying what inspired them to get into acting, trials of breaking into the business, or stories of how they got their SAG card and then just a series of voice overs announcing the presenters. It has made for a very intimate ceremony. I do wonder how the ceremony will flow with Kristen at the helm this year. When it comes to fashion I don’t usually think of Kristen as one that plays with fashion that often, but I am hoping that over the course of the evening at the 2018 SAG Awards that we see Kristen really deliver some really great moments on the red carpet and the stage. For the red carpet I went for a big princess moment with this champagne gold Zuhair Murad Fall 2017 Couture sleeveless gown which features floral and crystal embroidery, a full ball skirt, and a dramatic train. Big ball gowns aren’t the norm for this red carpet, which is seen as the most laid back of all the major awards shows during awards season. But I think that for such a big night for Kristen that this glamorous princess moment would be perfection. Keep the styling really elegant with a romantic updo, smokey eye, rose pink lips, a pair of champagne satin Gianvito Rossi pleated satin crystal broach embellished sandals, and a pair of antique gold Fred Leighton earrings to make sure that the gown is the real statement of this first look. I am hoping that Kristen will have a bevy of really great wardrobe changed throughout the evening. Following the big princess moment on the red carpet I would have Kristen change into this extremely glamorous red Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2018 embellished slip dress which features a flared skirt and dramatic train to kick off the evening. Glamour and drama. That is what I want to see from every single look that Kristen delivers on the red carpet. I’d let her hair down into romantic waves, keeping the rose pink lip and adding a bold defined eye, black velvet Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crystal heel sandals, and a pair of ruby and diamond Martin Katz drop earrings to kick off the show in high style.
Black gowns are most of what Kristen is comfortable with, so I feel like we will definitely see at least one black gown from her over the course of the night. I definitely think that going from the bold glamour of the Pamella gown to the femme fatale glamour of this black velvet Cinq à Sept ‘Annoziata’ gown which features asymmetric ruffled trim and a center split. While I love a gown with a train on the stage they can be quite cumbersome when making quick exits. I think that this gown is a perfect hosting gown which would be perfectly complimented with a red lip, glamorous waves, a pair of strappy black Steve Madden ‘Promise’ ribbon wrap sandals, and emerald cut Neil Lane diamond drop earrings.
For most film and television award shows I would only pick gowns for a host to wear, but since this show is more laid back and we will see gowns, cocktail dresses, and pants looks on the ladies walking the red carpet I thought that a great cocktail look would be appropriate. From femme fatale to 60’s glamour with this black and white Elizabeth Kennedy Resort 2018 cocktail dress which features short sleeves, an oversized bow design the bodice, an embroidered yoke, crystal embellishments, and a knee length. A short moment like this needs the perfect styling. Add an easy bouffant hairstyle, bold defined eyes, a bright pink lip, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistpearls’ sandals, and a pair of Tiffany & Co. diamond and pearl earrings to really ensure that Kristen makes this a beautiful moment.
The next look I picked for Kirsten to quick change into during the course of her hosting duties is another princess moment. This silver sequin embroidered Berta Spring 2018 Couture halter neck ball gown is a little more subtle than the Zuhair Murad princess moment I picked for Kristen to wear on the red carpet. The shape isn’t as grand and the train is less dramatic. I think that this should be a real contender for Kristen to wear on this stage. It sparkles and shines. It screams elegant glamour. Add a romantic updo, rose pink lips, a pair of silver Dolce Vita ‘Halo’ sandals, and Forevermark diamond fringe earrings to really make this another feminine, glamorous princess moment.A princess moment can only be followed with a modern glam moment. I didn’t pick a whole lot of bold color for Kristen, but I think that this hot pink Michael Kors simplistic halter gown is a really gorgeous moment just waiting to happen. I think that the hot pink moment amongst the sea of muted colors that I picked for Kristen to wear on this stage. I can see her bubbly personality just really being brought to life with this dress especially when complimented with a romantic updo, a nude lip, matching hot pink satin Gianni Renzi pointed toe pumps, and a pair of statement diamond and pink sapphire Harry Winston earrings.
When I was picking all of the perfect looks for Kristen to wear on this red carpet I had chosen many tea length gowns. I had to curtail them. Ultimately I decided to just have this one black and nude Paolo Sebastian Spring 2018 Couture tea length gown which features gold star embroidery, a full skirt, and strapless neckline. Paolo Sebastian is an Australian couturier who I feel is extremely underrated. We haven’t seen many red carpet moments from the brand, but I feel like this year we will see his designs more and more on different red carpets. Gold Jimmy Choo ‘Betty’ strappy sandals, a sleek updo, simple makeup, and a pair of gold Fred Leighton pendant drop earrings all would ensure that this is the most major moment that the brand has ever had.
Most of the princess-y ball gowns I picked for Kristen to wear for the SAG Awards are very light and feminine, but I definitely think that this dark navy Monique Lhuillier strapless beaded tulle ball gown which features full ball silhouette, layered hem, and sweeping train would be a great dark romantic moment for Kristen. Add a statement David Morris diamond necklace, sleek low bun, smokey eyes, and a pair of navy velvet Tony Bianco ‘Karvan’ sandals to really ensure head to toe perfection.
Finishing out this list is this very chic black and dusty rose J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2018 sleeveless embellished tulle gown which features an A-line silhouette with a plunging v neckline, embellished straps, metallic stripe detail, a fitted velvet waistband, gathered body and pleated skirt. This gown replaced one of the many tea length gowns that I had picked for Kristen, but when I saw this newly released lookbook that it would be a perfect gown for Kristen to wear for the SAG Awards. Complete the look with romantic waves, a defined eye, dusty rose lips, a pair of simple black Schutz ‘Cadey Lee’ sandals, and Neil Lane white and black diamond lantern earrings to ensure that Kristen ends the night in as glamorous manner as she began.
The 2018 SAG Awards will be held on Sunday January 21, 2018.
