Last night were the 2018 Golden Globe Awards and probably one of the most anticipated red carpets ever. There had been weeks of speculation as to what this carpet was going to bring. It all started when Meryl Streep announced that she was going to be wearing black to stand in solidarity with victims of violence against women. This prompted several other of the female nominees to do so as well. As I went through all of my wishes for this years Golden Globe Awards red carpet I went up, down, back, and forth about how this was all going to play out, and last night it came to culmination. Of all of the nominees, presenters, and stars of different nominated films and shows everyone wore black, even the men. It was a sea of black on the red carpet.I wondered why they chose black. I learned listening to Kerry Washington that it was because almost everyone has something black in their closet. They didn’t want people to have to go out and buy something if they didn’t want to. It was an overwhelming statement. This era of victim shaming, slut shaming, and silence is now officially over. Time’s up.
I have to say I feel that ranking the best of the black gowns seems a little trivial knowing what the sea of black gowns was meant to represent. So instead of going into deep paragraphs about what made each look stand out I want you to just taking in the gorgeousness and remember why these ladies wore black in the first place. 1) Diane Kruger in Prada 2) Caitriona Balfe in Chanel Fall 2017 Couture
