2018 Critics Choice Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

Before I break from my Critics Choice Awards wishes to bring you all my Golden Globe Awards presenter wishes, I have one more (very long) set of wishes for the 2018 Critics Choice Awards red carpet. The Critics Choice red carpet is usually a little more laid back than the Globes, but the range of looks can go from chic cocktail looks (like Natalie Portman in Alexander McQueen,) simple couture gowns (like Krysten Ritter in Zuhair Murad Couture,) and big dramatic gown (like Kate Beckinsale in Reem Acra.) We can really see just about anything on this red carpet, and with it’s move back into the official awards season calendar (after taking a break and holding the ceremony in December of 2016) I think we just may see many really gorgeous moments on this red carpet. Andra Day is nominated with Common for Best Original Song thanks to Stand Up For Something from the film Marshall. Andra knows how to do drama on the red carpet and I feel like if any of the nominees are really going to bring the drama factor on this red carpet it will be Andra. She does this amazing mix of 40’s and 60’s drama for her beauty look and her wardrobe usually reflects that. For this red carpet I think that Andra should wear this Guo Pei Fall 2017 Couture trumpet gown which features a champagne organza ruffled off the shoulder bodice and a fit to flare metallic red skirt with a dramatic train. The glamour of this look isn’t lost on me and I think that if anyone could take it and make it even more dramatic that it would be Andra. I have to say that despite the fact that Guo Pei shows gorgeous couture collections in Paris every season I could only find two red carpet moments from the brand. Li Bingbing wore the brand several years ago for the Venice Film Festival and of course the infamous yellow cape gown that Rihanna wore for the 2015 Met Gala. I think that Guo Pei is an underrated designer, and I want to see more of her designs on the red carpet. I think that if Andra styled this look with her signature beauty style, a pair of gold metallic leather trimmed Christian Louboutin ‘Hargaret’ transparent peep toe pumps, and statement Chopard jewels including a pair of double diamond hoop earrings and a real statement yellow diamond collar necklace that she would be one of the best looks on the red carpet. The Crown star Claire Foy is also set to make the awards season rounds again, and I am really hoping that she will have her best run yet. I know Claire has a lot of potential, but so often she ends up falling flat for me. I want to see her really deliver glamorous looks on the red carpet, because after watching her in The Crown I know she has major potential. Erdem is one of Claire’s favorite brands. They were the first to dress her and she has worn them for many events including the series premiere of The Crown, the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, and the 2017 Met Gala. So I went back to the brand for a dress for Claire to rock on this red carpet. This purple and red floral printed Erdem Spring 2018 RTW a-line cocktail dress which features asymmetrical straps and ruffled details on the bodice and hemline. I think that this dress is chic, flirty, and elegant and I think that Claire would definitely get a very chic moment out of this dress, especially if she pairs it with a pair of carnation red Aquazzura ‘Lily of the Valley’ sandals, chic updo, defined eyes, a pink lip, and a pair of chic vintage diamond and ruby Fred Leighton ball drop earrings. Emilia Clarke has been pretty MIA on the red carpet scene and I am really looking forward to praying that she will be out on the 2018 Critics Choice Awards red carpet, where she is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Game of Thrones. Last year Emilia became a face of a Dolce & Gabbana fragrance, and I have to say I hope we don’t see her in wall to wall Dolce looks over the course of awards season. Instead of Dolce I opted for this ivory and blush Alexander McQueen Resort 2018 tea length gown which features 3D floral embellishments, a corset bustier bodice, and an asymmetrical tiered skirt. This gown is definitely a very chic, romantic moment and I think that for her first Critics Choice Awards red carpet that she would definitely be able to hang. To style the look I want to see Emilia add a romantic updo, defined eyes, a rose pink lip, white Aquazzura ‘Bon Bon’ gold beaded sandals, and a statement pair of Dior Fine Jewellery earrings which feature multicolored diamonds, garnets, tourmalines, and sapphires to really ensure that Emilia will return to the red carpet in the most glamorous way possible. Gal Gadot will be honored with the sophomore #SeeHer Award at the 2018 Critics Choice Awards. The #SeeHer award is a special award “recognizes a woman who embodies the values set forth by the #SeeHer movement — to push boundaries on changing stereotypes and recognize the importance of accurately portraying women across the entertainment landscape. Gadot broke through this year as a powerful voice advocating for women, not only on screen as the iconic Wonder Woman, but in life as well, using her platform to encourage those in the entertainment industry and beyond to strive for fairness and parity across genders.” Gal really showcased her major style last year and I am really looking forward to seeing what she will bring this year. For the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards I would love to see Gal bring bold color wearing this ochre yellow Prabal Gurung Pre-Fall 2018 goddess gown features a asymmetric neckline, draped bodice, side split, and cutout at the waist. The color is so rich and beautiful and I think that it would definitely compliment Gal’s skin tone. A romantic updo, smokey eye, rose pink lips, a pair of gold Gianvito Rossi ‘Gemma’ crystal embellished peep toe pumps, and pair of statement vintage Van Cleef & Arpels turquoise and diamond chandelier earrings all would ensure that Gal has a winning look for her winning moment at the Critics Choice Awards. Jessica Biel is nominated in one of the toughest categories this year, Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her performance in The Sinner. Going up against Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Jessica Lange is going to be quite the difficult race, so I wonder if she will take to the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards. I went back to the same designer that Jessica wore to support her hubby Justin Timberlake at the last Critics Choice Awards, Elie Saab. Gowns and cocktail dresses are the expected norm on this red carpet, but I decided to go the jumpsuit route for Jessica with this black Elie Saab Resort 2018 jumpsuit which features a plunging V neckline, a multicolored beaded bodice detailing, and flowing bell sleeves with slits. If you’re going to do a jumpsuit for a formal red carpet then this is is the jumpsuit that you should do it in. It is just extra enough to be major moment against the gowns and couture confections that we will see on this red carpet. The jumpsuit is a major moment so I would let it be the focus of the look adding a sleek ponytail, defined eyes, pink lips, a black Elie Saab paneled clutch, a pair of oil slick colored Jimmy Choo ‘Romy’ glittered pumps, and a pair of multi colored sapphire Tiffany & Co. drop earrings to make this look total perfection from head to toe. Back when she first burst onto the scene thanks to The Wolf of Wall Street Margot Robbie attended her first Critics Choice Awards as a presenter wearing a simple black Elie Saab jumpsuit. This year with two nominations for her role in I, Tonya I am expecting something that is really statement making from Margot. I would love to see her go for classic elegance on this red carpet wearing this black Chanel Fall 2017 Couture tea length gown which features a folded peplum detail, a beaded hem, crystal embellished buttons, a rouched knot detail waist, and a plunging neckline. We often see Margot wearing very simple silhouettes on the red carpet, but I think that this gown is a great change of pace to that. I think that with the very chic, classic moment that this gown is that the styling has to be 100% on point. A pair of black satin Sophia Webster ‘Coco Crystal’ pumps, a red lip, defined eyes, old Hollywood waves, and Chanel Haute Joaillerie white and black diamond bow like earrings all would ensure that Margot has a perfect look on her hands.Octavia Spencer is always one that I like to check out on the red carpet. She almost always dresses her curves to perfection and I am interested in seeing what Octavia will wear on the red carpet over this awards season. I would love to see Octavia wield her star power and get her hands on a wider range of designers. I think that with the changing tides on curvy women in the fashion industry that we could see more variation in her sartorial styles. Her Tadashi styles are starting to get a little repetitive, so throwing some new brands into the mix could make her a little more of a red carpet heavy hitter again. This blue Derek Lam bell sleeve, silk, v-neck gown is one that I think would help deliver that variation. The shape would flow over her hourglass curves perfectly and the sleeves add a bit of drama that we aren’t used to seeing from Octavia. Gold Manolo Blhanik ‘Chaos’ sandals, loose waves, an indigo smokey eye, red lip, a gold Judith Leiber Couture ‘New Goddess’ crystal clutch, and statement turquoise, ruby, diamond, and emerald Bulgari chandelier earrings all would really make sure that Octavia makes fashionable waves. Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany has a very tomboy approach to red carpet dressing most of the time. We don’t often see her in gowns, let alone sequins. But for the 2018 Critics Choice Awards, where her performance in the show has earned her a nomination for Best Actress in a Drama Series, I want to see her really go for the glam with this silver sequined Vera Wang Spring 2018 RTW midi length gown which features a plaid bustier bodice. This Vera Wang collection spoke to me when I first saw it. It was tough, but edgy. Very reminiscent of the strong prairie women, and also drew a lot of comparisons to The Handmaids Tale. I think that this dress is the perfect mix of tough and glam that would make for a really beautiful red carpet moment for Tatiana. Style it with fun curls, a smokey eye, black and silver Judith Leiber Couture coffered snakeskin minaudiere clutch, a pair of silver JAGGAR ‘Lane’ metallic leather sandals, and simple Neil Lane art deco chandelier diamond earrings to really make this look head to toe perfection.

The 2018 Critics Choice Awards will take place on Thursday January 11, 2018.
