2018 Golden Globe Awards: Best Actress in a Movie Drama Nominee Red Carpet Wish List

Well the time has come, the kick of my wishes for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. The Globes really are the official kick off to awards season being the first televised awards show of the year. The stars of both the big and small screens will gather at the Beverly Hilton ballroom in Los Angeles on Sunday January 7, 2018. As I usually do I have broken up my wishes for the 2018 Golden Globes by category with my presenter wishes and a post for the guys coming towards the end. Kicking off my wishes are some of the women nominated for Best Actress in a Movie Drama.I love Jessica Chastain so when I saw her name pop up during the 2018 Golden Globe Awards nominations I got really excited to see what she will wear on the red carpet. I have to say that a few weeks ago I read that actresses are planning to wear black to the Globes as a way to stand in solidarity with the #MeToo movement. I had already picked all of my wishes for the nominees for this years red carpet, and I decided that I was going to keep them as they stand. I would bet that Jessica, with all of her political activism and female empowerment, will be one of those that will don black for the red carpet and that just makes me sad because in the lead up to the nominations I was praying that we would see Jessica’s name because I wanted to see her wearing this red Ralph Lauren Fall 2017 RTW strapless ballgown which features a patent leather bustier and a full tulle skirt. I love seeing Jessica wearing red on the red carpet and as the face of one of Ralph’s fragrances I think that this would be a match made in heaven. The patent bustier is a little out there compared to what we normally see Jessica wearing, a little more dominatrix, but I think that since the shape and skirt are very simple that the bustier would not be extremely jarring. Style this gown with old Hollywood waves over one shoulder, a chic defined eye, light pink matte lips, a pair of red Gianvito Rossi ‘Plexi’ satin ankle wrap sandals with illusion PVC trim, and a statement Piaget diamond and ruby necklace to really make it a major modern glam moment. Meryl Streep announced that she would be wearing black for the red carpet at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. She started this movement of actresses saying they will wear black, and so I decided that while there weren’t many looks that I was going to actually change in favor of black I would change the bohemian blue lace Valentino Couture gown that I had originally picked for Meryl and pick something black. Now just because I wanted to go to a black gown doesn’t mean that I had to pick something boring or bland. I think that this black velvet Valentino Spring 2018 RTW long sleeve gown with a dazzling silver sequined panel down the front would fit the protest statement, but still be glamorous and dazzling enough for a major red carpet moment. I kept the styling rather simple with a black satin Judith Leiber Couture ‘Lenox’ crystal trim clutch, sleek updo, defined eyes, a nude lip, black Valentino ‘Rockstud Glam’ satin sandals, and a pair of Harry Winston diamond cluster earrings.Michelle Williams was one of the surprises of the 2018 Golden Globe nominations. I hadn’t heard her name bounced around at all, until that is when it was announced during the nominations announcement. Michelle is never really one of my favorites to see on the red carpet and I was very much hoping that following her Best Actress win at the Cannes Film Festival that Diane Kruger would have had this spot on the nominations list. Michelle is so extremely loyal to Louis Vuitton there really is no use making a wish for her to wear any other designer. The LV Spring 2018 RTW collection has been pretty much worn already, so I am expecting that whatever Michelle wears will be custom. There really wasn’t a single look that hasn’t been worn from LV that I would want to see customized into a gown right now. She could wear something in the metallic brocades that made up the 18th century inspired coats, but I don’t know exactly how they would work. For the list though I went searching on 1stdibs.com and found this gorgeous vintage black Louis Vuitton gown which features bronze ring details. Simple yet elegant with a bit of a twist. This gown perfectly matches what I would boil Michelle’s style down to be and with the right styling I think it could be a really chic moment. A black Louis Vuitton ‘Capucines Mini’ bag with gold beading, a sleek hairstyle, kohl rimmed eyes, red lip, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals, and a pair of dainty gold and diamond Louis Vuitton Fine Jewellery earrings all would really add the perfect finishing touches to this look. Rounding out this list is yet another vintage gown. We have seen a lot of vintage on the red carpets this year and I think that will continue into next year. I think that Sally Hawkins from The Shape of Water is one of the stars to watch out for really good vintage. She has a very quirky sense of style and I think that shopping for the best vintage Vivienne Westwood would be the best idea for her to rock for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. I would love to see Sally snatch up this black vintage Vivienne Westwood Couture long sleeve gold foil screen printed sheath gown from the 1990’s ‘Portrait Collection.’ This is a very beautiful gown. The print just screams luxe and while I don’t think Sally will vie for a spot on my Best Dressed list, I do think that this could help really try. I went really quirky with the styling of this gown adding a black Judith Leiber Couture train case in reptile-embossed leather with gold hardware, touselled curls, a smokey eye, light pink lip, and a pair of black satin Stuart Weitzman ‘Gonzo’ platform sandals to really ensure that everything about this look just screams Sally’s style.

The 2018 Golden Globe Awards will take place on Sunday January 7, 2018.
