2018 National Board of Review Awards Red Carpet Wish List

I am just plugging along to pass some of these wish lists for a few of smaller red carpet award ceremonies before I kick off my wishes for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. Following the Golden Globes many of the stars that are expected on that red carpet will have to get on a plane and jet to NYC for the 2018 National Board of Review Awards which which will be handed out on Tuesday January 9, 2018 at Cipriani 42nd Street. Like I said the other day if these ladies don’t have frequent flier programs yet, they better get themselves signed up.Allison Williams has been working the international film scene hard promoting Get Out which was named one of the National Board of Review’s top films of 2017, so I am expecting her to keep that hard work up all the way through the Academy Awards. The National Board of Review Awards are a lot more laid back than events like the Golden Globes so I think for the most part we will see really great cocktail looks on this red carpet. Allison does flirty elegance like no other and I think that she would definitely take this mint and yellow Carolina Herrera Spring 2018 RTW cocktail dress which features a straight strapless neckline, corseted bodice, and 3D embroidery throughout and make it a beautiful moment on the red carpet. The carpet and step and repeat at this event are both black so this look would stand out. As far as the styling Allison should take beauty cues from the runway with a defined eye, matte pale pink lip, and sleek locks tucked behind the ears. I would swap the purple pumps from the runway pumps in favor of a pair of gold Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Lavinia’ platform sandals to really add the perfect final touch to this look.First They Killed My Father directed by Angelina Jolie is going to be honored with the National Board of Review Freedom of Expression award at this years gala, so I am really hoping that she will step out to accept the award on the films behalf. Angie has always been one that I either love with all my heart or that ends up looking frumpy, there really is no in-between. This film is definitely on the short list for consideration for a Best Foreign Language Film nomination at the Oscars so I want Angie to be on top form all through award season. Despite knowing that the step and repeat at this event will most likely be all black I decided to pick a black dress for Angie to wear. I think that if anyone could take this black Ulyana Sergeenko Fall 2017 Couture long sleeve robe style wrap dress and really make it come to life on a red carpet then it would be Angelina. She would infuse her statuesque glamour into this dress. Voluminous old Hollywood waves, a winged eye, bold red lip, black Christian Louboutin ‘Nosy Spiked’ t-strap pumps, and emerald Lorraine Schwartz jewels including a pair of cluster earrings and a 65 carat Colombian emerald cocktail ring all would ensure that this look is anything but simple.Gal Gadot and her Wonder Woman director will be honored with the Spotlight Award and I am really excited to see what Gal will bring to an awards season run. So far in my wishes I have already asked to see Gal wear a dramatic Alexander McQueen cocktail dress and a chic Givenchy casual ensemble and there are many more great moments to come. For the National Board of Review Awards I went back to Givenchy and this dark ink blue silk Givenchy Spring 2018 RTW suit. This suit is very classic, chic, and strong. I think that with the female empowerment movement behind this film that this would be a really great nod to female strength for Gal to rock on this red carpet. I would remove the matching belt bag (AKA fanny pack) for this red carpet instead opting for a statement diamond and sapphire Bulgari High Jewellery necklace to add the visual glam to this look. A sleek bun, smokey eye, glossy nude lips, and a pair of navy Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Veronica’ platform sandals all would really ensure this moment is perfection.Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird placed on the list of the top films of 2017 according to the National Board of Review and she herself will be honored with the Best Director award. I have to say that she has been working red carpets recently a whole lot better than her history has lead me to expect. I am really hoping that since she is a favorite for a Best Director Oscar nod that she will really be all about being on top form from here on out. For the National Board of Review Awards I want to see Greta give a brand we don’t often see on the red carpet a whirl. This moss green and ivory ADEAM Spring 2018 RTW embroidered panel gown which features a strapless bustier with draped detail, tea length skirt, and boxy shirt silhouette. I think that for most red carpets during award season this gown wouldn’t be enough, but for one of the smaller events like the National Board of Review Awards I think it would be great. Loose waves, a defined eye, bright pink lip, and a pair of terracotta brown velvet Lola Cruz platform sandals all would ensure that Greta is on tip top form.Kristen Wiig has been bringing it for every red carpet she has walked the second half of this year and is making me really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet during award season. Her film Downsizing was selected as another of the 10 best films of 2017 and I would really love to see her step out and celebrate the film on this red carpet. I haven’t really done a good job picking the right looks for Kristen recently, mostly because she has been going in this new direction. I think that this black and white Victoria Beckham Spring 2018 RTW ensemble which consists of a sheer appearance gathered sleeve blouse tucked into a bi-color twist yoke skirt is right up this new chic modern glam ally that Kristen has been going down recently and is chic enough for an award ceremony gala, while Kristen isn’t one of the nights main honorees. Add a pair of black Tony Bianco ‘Kashmir’ lucite heel sandals, sleek side-swept hair, a smokey eye, a bold red lip, and a pair of simple Harry Winston diamond wreath earrings to really ensure that this look just oozes modern glam.Finishing out my National Board of Review Awards wishes is this years Best Actress honoree Meryl Streep, who has received the accolade for her performance in The Post. When it comes to style Meryl is either on the fashion train or she is not. I am hoping that as she makes the rounds during yet another nominated award season that she brings the fashion factor yet again. I was talking with one of my other fashion loving friends about brands that we would love to see Meryl wearing and Louis Vuitton came up, specifically the 18th century coats from the brands Spring 2018 RTW collection. Now when we both agreed that it would be great to see Meryl wearing one of them we also said that since we have seen at least eight different incarnations of this coat on various red carpets already that Meryl would have to do it differently. So I want Meryl to take this gold sequined and black leather coat and make it her own. I think that adding a black draped L’Agence blouse and a pair of black RED Valentino wide leg trousers would really do wonders for styling this look in a way that suits Meryl’s red carpet aesthetic. That does go against what we have come to expect when someone wears Louis Vuitton on the red carpet. It isn’t the runway look head to toe, but if Nicolas GhesquiΓ¨re wanted to create custom pieces from LV like the ones I described for Meryl I wouldn’t be opposed. I think that in styling that Meryl would most likely carry a black and gold Louis Vuitton ‘Petite Malle’ clutch but would opt for a pair of shoes like a pair of black Salvatore Ferragamo pumps with a gold heel. Her eyes defined behind her glasses, a bold red lip, and a chic updo all would add the perfect finishing touches to this look for the Hollywood legend.

The 2018 National Board of Review Awards will take place on Tuesday January 9, 2018.
