One of the awards I always hate giving out every year is Most Disappointing. When I go through my worst dressed nominees and look at who is on the list a lot, but really makes me sad that they are is how I come up with the person who takes this one home. Sadly this year it was Salma Hayek. I know Salma has a lot better in her than what she showed us on the red carpet this year. I get that she is married to the CEO of Kering and has access to some of the best brands in the world like Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, and more but her looks this year came across like she was trying to hard to be fun, chic, and cool all at the same time. Salma’s aesthetic was always elegant sex appeal and I think that some of the Kering brands can help her achieve that, but she almost exclusively wore Gucci this year and sadly the eccentric grandma vibe of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci just doesn’t fit Salma’s style to me. I really want to see her streamline her looks next year. Maybe if she added some looks from brands like Versace, Givenchy, Altuzarra, Jason Wu, Prabal Gurung, and Elie Saab she could fall back in my good graces and be next years Most Improved.
