When it comes to red carpet dressing color is usually what I am always looking for. Stars who tend to leave their wardrobe to stark monochromatic black and white usually fall to the indifferent lists. That is not the case with Janelle Monae this year who promoted two films during awards season wearing exclusively monochromatic looks and it was an absolutely amazing run. Janelle and stylist Maeve Reilly cooked up amazing looks from the likes of Armani Prive, Thom Browne, Elie Saab, Christian Siriano, Jenny Packham, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Alexandre Vauthier, Kate Spade, Georges Chakra, and more. Each look evoked a different mood from fun to edgy to regal to masculine to glamorous and Janelle evoked the spirit of each look with her attitude as she walked the many different red carpets she attended this year. She shut it down in her Elie Saab Couture regal moment at the Oscar despite not being nominated or presenting. She stole the show from many of the biggest stars of the night and did so unabashedly. Rare is a color moment on Janelle, but I never grow tired of seeing her on the red carpet.
