We are just two days away from this years American Music Awards and I am really excited to see what all of the stars will bring to the red carpet. The looks from the AMA’s red carpet can be a bit all over the piece from couture gowns to denim to chic cocktail looks to embellished Balmain minis. I am really hoping that no matter what they opt to wear that the stars that are nominated, performing, and just attending all make some amazing sartorial decisions giving me looks that I want to upset my Best Dressed of 2017 list.Demi Lovato will make her first television performance of her hit song “Sorry Not Sorry” at this years American Music Awards on Sunday and I have to say that I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpet. A few months ago Demi swapped her stylists and started working with the visionary Law Roach and the two have been making magic together and I am really excited to see what they will cook up for this red carpet. I wanted to give a glam not to urban wear by picking this metallic midnight blue Ralph & Russo Spring 2018 RTW jacket dress which features voluminous sleeves, a tied belt waist, silver button details, and a mini length for Demi to rock on the AMA’s red carpet. I think it has been a long time since Demi has really given a good ‘urban’ inspired look on the red carpet and I think that she would definitely take this dress and make it a really great moment especially if she pairs it with a blue smokey eye, voluminous waves, a nude lip, a pair of black Tony Bianco ‘Dene’ stretch satin over the knee boots, and Chopard diamond hoop earrings. Hailee Steinfeld is slated to join with Swedish DJ/producer Alesso featuring country act Florida Georgia Line and L.A. upstart watt for to perform their joint single “Let Me Go.” I have to say that when I read this motley mix of names were all collaborating on one song I expected a disaster, but it wasn’t terrible. Hailee has had a really good year style wise and I am expecting something amazing from her on the AMA’s red carpet. Short and sequined. That has been Hailee’s MO on the American Music Awards red carpet in the past, and I have totally shunned that idea for this years red carpet. I want to see Hailee opt for bold color over dazzling embellishments wearing this bright yellow Giambattista Valli 2017 Couture pleated and rouched mini dress. I think that that Hailee would take this very bright and sexy dress and infuse a whole lot of youthful diva attitude and really make this such a major moment for her to rock on this red carpet. I feel like sequins and beading is such an expected route to take for a music awards show. This dress is a perfect contrast to that very standard look. With a sleek high ponytail, smokey eye, nude glossy lips, gold Christian Louboutin ‘Golden Blake’ fringe heel sandals, and a pair of white and yellow diamond Chopard drop earrings this look would just scream bold glamour. In past years we have seen Lady Gaga show up on the American Music red carpet giving us full “Joanne,” riding in on a white horse puppet, and dressed at the Presidents mistress. While her looks have been distinctly “Gaga” I cannot say that she has ever given us “crazy Gaga” on the red carpet at the AMA’s and I think that the looks I have chosen for her to rock on this years red carpet (and multiple inside wardrobe changes) would definitely add a whole new bar to her AMA’s history. For the red carpet I saw this amazing black and gold vintage 1990’s Todd Oldham mesh and button detail sheer gown on the Decades website and thought that it would definitely show that rocker glam side of Gaga’s style. Add a chic updo, thick winged eyeliner, bold red lip, black and gold Tom Ford strappy leather ankle cuff sandals, and a pair of vintage gold set Van Cleef & Arpels diamond fringe earrings to really ensure this look is perfection. To follow the red carpet I have my first wardrobe quick change for Gaga. I was on Vogue.com and looking through some of the shows from international fashion weeks, to find new rising designers, and I came across the Djaba Diassamidze Spring 2018 RTW collection from Tbilisi Fashion Week. As I scrolled from look to look in this collection I just couldn’t stop thinking about Gaga and since I wanted to do multiple wardrobe changed for Gaga for the AMA’s I thought that this would be a really great option. I can totally picture Gaga wearing this strapless black PVC bustier with a black silk fishtail train paired with a pair of light was distressed boyfriend fit cutoff jeans. Gaga loves young designers and I think that she would definitely take this look and make it major with a 60’s style bouffant, the same makeup as the red carpet, a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Pigallie Follies Crow’ patent fringe pumps, and a real statement vintage Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and ruby collar necklace. I wanted to make this set of wishes a real definition of Gaga’s style. I think that these three looks first I have a vintage look followed by a designer that is an unknown rising star, and then I have a look from Gaga’s favorite brand, Versace. I would be really shocked if Gaga doesn’t wear one of the looks from the Versace Spring 2018 RTW collection at some point. She is one of the few who Donatella has allowed to rummage through the Gianni Versace archives in the past, and with this collection being Donatella’s love letter to the house that her late brother built I think that Gaga will certainly be given the option of any look (or looks) that she likes from the collection. I would love to see Gaga make her second quick change into this black and gold studded Versace Spring 2018 RTW ensemble which features a boxy fit jacket, lycra bikini top, and a pair of straight leg stretch cotton gabardine pants. This look is very rock and roll and for another really great wardrobe change for Gaga to rock at the AMA’s. Finishing this look with a high purposefully messy ponytail, that thick black winged eye, a glossy nude lip, a pair of black Versace baroque scroll sandals, and a statement vintage Van Cleef & Arpels diamond necklace would ensure that this trio of looks is capped off in the most rock and roll glam way possible. Nick Jonas will be performing his newest single “Find You” and I am hoping that he will ensure that he will bring the fashion factor to this red carpet. I have been loving that men have been taking a little bit more of a risk on the red carpet recently and Nick has been one of the dudes making awesome choices recently. For the AMA’s red carpet I would love to see Nick wearing this black and red plaid Versace Fall 2017 Menswear single breasted suit. The print is subtle, but in the chicest manner. I think the suit is the statement of this look so I would have Nick pair it with a black Versace slim-fit, turtleneck jumper and a pair of black patchwork leather Versace lace up brogues to really ensure this is a modern take on classic sexy menswear. It has been a while since Selena Gomez has given me a look that I have gotten really excited. Don’t get me wrong shes worn some simple looks that are gorgeous in their own right, but nothing that has landed her on any of my best dressed lists. She usually just finds herself fallen to the wayside on my indifferent list. I want her to really wow me when she steps onto the American Music Awards red carpet prior to her debut performance of “Wolves.” Selena would definitely shut this red carpet down stepping out wearing this rose gold chainmail Atelier Versace Spring 2017 Couture sleeveless gown which features gorgeous drapery, sheer details, and a dramatic slit. I think that this gown needs the right wearer and the right red carpet. That is why I think it hasn’t been worn yet. I think that the formula of Selena and the American Music Awards would make the the perfect combination to give this gown a major red carpet moment. If Selena paired this look with a loose updo, smokey eye, glossy nude lip, a pair of rose gold Sophia Webster ‘Rosalind’ crystal heel sandals, and a selection of Tiffany & Co. pink diamond jewels including a selection of rings, and a pair of teardrop pendant earrings then the look will be absolute perfection.Yara Shahidi is one of the many presenters who will take to the stage at the 2017 American Music Awards on Sunday night and I am always excited to see what she will wear on the red carpet. It was really at the beginning of the year that Yara showed up on my radar and she has been on a steady climb to fashion super-stardom ever since. I am hoping that she gives a really major moment on what many count as the last major award show of the year. I think that closing the year out in a major manner like with this black Zuhair Murad Fall 2017 Couture ensemble which features a velvet feather trimmed carpet with beaded embellishments, a lace top that I would like to see partially lined, and a pair of tapered tuxedo cropped pants. The look is elegant and statement making while still being dark and moody. Modern Victoriana has been a huge trend of the red carpet this year and I think that Yara would infuse youthful edge to this look. Add pulled back full curls, a smokey eye, red lip, and a pair of black Aquazzura ‘Shanty’ embroidered, tassel detail ankle strap sandals to ensure this look is total perfection. Dark romantic glamour defined.
The 2017 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday November 19, 2017.
