Sunday nights American Music Awards are almost guaranteed to have a star studded turn out and I am really excited to see if any of the stars can deliver a lewk that can unseat what I think is a pretty tight race to my Best Dressed of the Year list. There are only a small handful of events that I think have the potential to upset my list and the AMA’s are definitely on that list. I really hope that stars are on their top game. As much as I want them to deliver best dressed upset worthy looks, I am really praying that they do not bring anything that could upset my worst dressed of the year list. Carrie Underwood had a pretty decent red carpet at the CMA Awards in a stringing purple Fouad Sarkis Couture gown. I was very happy to see Carrie to rock a gown that was completely devoid of any embellishment. Carrie has been known to rock a crazy amount of beads, sequins, and crystals on her red carpet looks, so this change of pace was really beautiful. I again went to a gown devoid of embellishment with this peach and orange Romona Keveza Spring 2017 Bridal strapless ballgown which features beautiful floral print to make such a beautiful moment for Carrie. This is definitely a princess moment and I think that Carrie does princess extremely well on the red carpet. I think that if she paired this gown with old Hollywood waves, a kohl rimmed eye, nude lip, a pair of bronze Schutz ‘Saasha Lee’ sandals, and gorgeous statement Avakian drop earrings that Carrie would have a truly beautiful moment. Prior to the MTV Video Music Awards I really had no idea who Julia Michaels was aside from her hit single Issues. She stepped onto the red carpet wearing the blue sequined ombre Christian Dior gown that was one of the “it dresses” from the Fall 2017 RTW collections, making her one to watch. She is nominated for New Artist of the Year and I want to see her deliver really great looks on the red carpet. Isabel Marant is one of the ultimate cool girl brands, and we don’t often see her designs on the red carpet. They are often considered too casual for big red carpets and end up as street style moments, I think that a music award show red carpet is the perfect place for one to take an Isabel Marant look and elevate it to a major moment on the red carpet. I would love to see Julia take this dusty rose Isabel Marant Spring 2018 RTW ensemble which features a one shoulder top with a single statement sleeve and all over iridescent floral print and high waist shorts with an elasticized stretch waistband and large front pockets and really just exude cool girl glam on this red carpet. This might be a little out there as an idea, but I think that it would totally work on the American Music Awards red carpet especially paired with a loose romantic updo, smokey eyes, a pair of coral suede Steve Madden ‘Teaser’ sandals, a rose pink lip, and Ana Khouri ‘Gioconda’ multicolored sapphire bar stud earrings. Pink has always been one that I have high hopes for on the red carpet, but almost every time I get them crushed. I was hoping for a really great edgy, rocker glam moment when she stepped onto the CMA Awards red carpet last week, instead she was overwhelmed in tulle wearing a frothy Moonsori gown that hadn’t been a success on Kelly Rowland or Kesha in the past. I am hoping for two things. 1) that the Moonsori gown has now run its course and we will never see it again and 2) that Pink will deliver a good moment when steps out for the American Music Awards where she will perform her latest song Beautiful Trauma. I listened to her new album, by the same title, and it was an epic moment. It has been a long time since listening to an album has felt like a religious experience, but that is exactly what listening to Beautiful Trauma was like. I am praying that it will garner her many Grammy nominations and wins. Before that she will walk the red carpet at the AMA’s and I do think that this rainbow patchwork sequin Libertine Spring 2018 RTW suit would be a really great moment for Pink. She loves great suit moments and I think that this is the perfect statement pantsuit for a red carpet like the American Music Awards. Libertine is a brand that has great looks for music awards and I definitely think that Pink would take this look and rock the hell out of it. Style it with a punky coif, smokey eyes, red lips, red velvet Jeffrey Campbell ‘Mika’ platform, peep toe, block heel sandals, and a pair of silver crystal Ca & Lou earcuffs all would ensure that this look is perfection.Rihanna is nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist and I am praying that she will step onto the red carpet for this years American Music Awards. Rihanna has rocked the red carpet at the AMA’s in high style several times wearing designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, The Blonds, Elie Saab, Marchesa, and Zac Posen. She never gives the same kind of look twice and that is part of what I love about her. This year we have seen a much softer, more feminine side of Rihanna’s style and I have to say that I am here for it. I think that if she stepped onto the red carpet at the AMA’s giving us the softest looks she would have ever worn for this red carpet wearing this mauve Giambattista Valli Fall 2017 Couture one shoulder gown which features a flowing draped silhouette and floral details that Rihanna would make for one of those potentially best dressed of the year upsetting looks. This look really needs the perfect person to bring it to life on the red carpet and I think that Rihanna would definitely bring her diva-tude to this look making it such a major moment. Add a sleek high bun, smokey eye, Fenty Beauty ‘Cosmic Gloss’ lips in astro-naughty, a pair of blush Salvatore Ferragamo velvet wedge pumps, and statement Chopard jewels including drop earrings and a paisley cuff bracelet to really turn this into a major moment. I would expect Rihanna to change after she heads inside to the Microsoft Theater after walking the red carpet into something that she can be a lot more comfortable wearing in her seat during the show. I wanted to go for urban, menswear inspiration by picking this Tom Ford Spring 2018 RTW ensemble which features a black double breasted strong shoulder blazer and a pair of white silk jogger pants. I think that if anyone can make this look really work that it would be Rihanna. She knows how to really give us strong masculine glamour and I think that the edge that the jogger pant brings to this look make it just a little more interesting. I would add a pair of clear PVC Tom Ford embellished peep toe slingback pumps, a statement diamond and emerald Chopard collar necklace, a bold Fenty Beauty ‘STUNNA’ lip, winged eye liner, and let her hair down into loose curls to really ensure that the inside look is just as good as the red carpet look. Sofia Carson is expected to attend the American Music Awards this weekend. I had a hard time picking the right look for her to wear for this red carpet. Sofia is the princess of red carpet dressing. She has never met a princess gown that she doesn’t love, but I just don’t think that this red carpet is the place for that. The AMA’s are usually a very edgy glam red carpet, but that just isn’t Sofia’s style. I think that this Monique Lhuillier Resort 2018 RTW ensemble would be a good meshing of the vibe of the AMA’s red carpet and Sofia’s style. The look is make up of a blush cape which features an embellished neckline and all over feather detailing, a white Chantilly lace camisole, and a pair of black straight leg high waisted pants. This look is sweet and honestly without the cape very simple, but I think that if any red carpet could be the perfect place for a feathered cape that it would be the American Music Awards. I would keep the styling rather simple to keep the cape the statement part of this look. A sleek low bun, black winged eyeliner, a bold red lip, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistpearls’ sandals, and a pair of vintage gold set Harry Winston diamond and pearl ear clips would add the perfect finishing touches to this look for Sofia.
The 2017 American Music Awards will take place on Sunday November 19, 2017.
