2017 Academy Governors Awards Red Carpet Wish List

Tomorrow night the biggest names in Hollywood will gather to honor Alejandro G. Inarritu, Charles Burnett, Agnes Varda, Owen Roizman, and Donald Sutherland. Aside from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Board of Governors we usually see many of the stars who have rumors of nominations during awards season also step out on the red carpet. I’m not 100% sure of who will step out on the red carpet tomorrow, but I have some wishes for who I would like to see take to the red carpet. Laura Dern is one of 3 actors on the Academy’s Board of Governors and actually campaigned to be the bodies president earlier this year. Of everyone on this list today I think she is the safest bet of who we may see on the red carpet. Laura has had some really beautiful moments on the red carpet this year and I think that if she stepped onto the red carpet wearing this black Elie Saab Fall 2017 Couture suit which features a bold embroidered lace peplum jacket, wide leg pants, and a dramatic train that she could add another look to this list. Pants with a train is definitely a risk. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I think that it totally worked on the runway, so I am confident that on the right person it would translate to the red carpet as well. I think that Laura has this very stately yet relaxed and modern approach to glamour on the red carpet, so I think that she would be a perfect person to bring this look to life on the red carpet. With a pair of black and gold Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate Glitter Chain’ pumps, loose waves, a smokey eye, nude lip, and a pair of H. Stern moonstone drop earrings this ensemble would be perfectly complimented. Last week Gugu Mbatha Raw was one of several celebrities who helped read selected scenes from screenplays that were honored with the Academy Nicholl Fellowship so I would love to see Gugu take the Governors Awards red carpet by storm. The dress code for this event is a little more laid back than the actual Academy Awards and great cocktail dresses are definitely appropriate. The three times that Gugu has walked this red carpet in the past she has worn short dresses, and I have a feeling that wouldn’t be any different this year. She hasn’t worn couture before, but I think that this is the perfect place for her to have her first couture moment. I think that this black sequined Armani Prive Fall 2017 Couture tiered cocktail dress which features subtle green and blue embroidery and spaghetti straps would be an absolutely beautiful moment on the red carpet for Gugu. This look is modern and glamorous. Add a chic curly updo, smokey eye, nude glossy lip, an indigo blue Judith Leiber Couture satin coffered clutch, black Gianvito Rossi asymmetric strappy patent sandals, and a pair of statement diamond, emerald, and sapphire Harry Winston earrings and Gugu will dazzle on the Governors Awards red carpet. Zoey Deutch joined Gugu for the Nicholl Fellowship Awards reading and I am hoping that she will make an appearance on the Governors Awards red carpet as well. Zoey has been one who has really been a style star to watch and I think that she could deliver a beautiful moment on this red carpet. This gorgeous pink floral embroidered Valentino Spring 2018 RTW gown was gorgeous on the runway, and I think that Zoey would make this an amazing red carpet moment. Zoey does feminine glamour extremely well so I think that she would take this gown to the red carpet at the Governors Awards. Valentino accessories including a red ‘Rockstud Spike’ quilted napa minaudiere and gold ‘Rockstud’ sandals added to a chic updo, simple lined eyes, light pink lips, and a pair of vintage ruby and diamond Van Cleef & Arpels flower stud earrings all would ensure that this gown comes to life on the red carpet. Usually some of the stars whose films have some awards buzz or buzz worthy performances end up showing up for this night of schmoozing. Angelina Jolie, a Governors Award recipient herself, has buzz for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director for her film First They Killed My Father is one of the stars who I would really love to see step out on this red carpet. Angie has had some really beautiful moments this year and I am praying that she will deliver a major moment to really push her Oscar campaign forward. I feel like everyone would be talking about Angie if she stepped onto this red carpet giving full force glamour with this white Alessandra Rich Spring 2018 RTW one sleeve gown which features a dramatic split and a crystal patch. This gown is femme fatale glamour defined and I think that Angelina would ensure that it is worked to its full potential. I don’t think that she will pull the full “Angelina leg” with the split but will ensure that she delivers the appropriate level of leg. Styling this look with voluminous waves, a kohl rimmed eye, red lip, white Aquazzura ‘Nathalie’ crisscross leather sandals, and a pair of gorgeous Cartier High Jewellery diamond drop earrings would all make this look absolute perfection.Margot Robbie is a contender to take a Best Actress nomination for her performance in I, Tonya. Margot has always been one that is up and down on the fashion scale with her looks either being really good or things I just can’t fall in love with. I would really love to see Margot have a nominated awards season on the red carpet. She has attended awards shows as a presenter in the past, but I think that she would up her game even further for shows where she is nominated. With that I mind I wanted to give her a really gorgeous, yet sleek moment for the Governors Awards, if she attends. This blush silk lamé Alberta Ferretti Spring 2018 RTW sleeveless, bias cut gown which features a lustrous design with shoulder-back straps would deliver just that. It almost gives me Calvin Klein by Francisco Costa vibes and I think that this gown would just deliver that sleek moment I am looking for in the most glamorous way possible. With a silver Judith Leiber Couture ‘New Goddess’ crystal clutch, sleek low bun, simple lined eyes, a light pink lip, a pair of simple silver Aquazzura ‘Purist’ metallic leather sandals, and modern Boucheron amethyst and diamond drop pendant earrings Margot will be the epitome of modern glamour.Finishing out this list is the gorgeous Mary J. Blige who has been campaigning hard for an Oscar nomination for her supporting performance in Mudbound. She swapped her stylists for Law Roach recently and I am sure that is to inject a whole lot of movie star glamour into her style in anticipation of this awards season run. I am sure that I am really looking forward to seeing what Mary will bring to the red carpet over the course of the next several months on the road to the Oscars. I think that going bold on the red carpet at the Governors Awards wearing this gunmetal grey Ralph & Russo Fall 2017 Couture strapless gown which features a fit to glare silhouette and a feathered hemline would be a great moment for Mary. The styles that we see on this red carpet to tend to range from chic cocktail dresses to dramatic couture designs and I think that Mary could definitely deliver the latter with this gown. A pair of black Jimmy Choo ‘Harper’ evening sandals, a beautiful updo, smokey eye, red lip, and Fred Leighton diamonds including a pair of art deco diamond fringe earrings and a vintage diamond bracelet all would ensure that Mary is 100% on top top form for one of the first major red carpets of awards season.
