The last film festival of the year is always the AFI (American Film Institute) Fest. We usually start our year with the AFI Awards and we end it (almost) with the AFI Fest. I am looking forward to seeing what all of the stars who have films screening at this years AFI Fest will wear over the course of the festival. When it comes to the red carpet at the AFI Fest the dress code is much more laid back than any of the other film festivals. I don’t think that we will see any gowns on the AFI Fest red carpets. I also find the chance that we will see couture on the red carpet either. They just don’t fit with the vibe of the festival.Mudbound will open the 2017 AFI Festival and it is expected to make a major bid during awards season. Since the promo tour for the film kicked off at the Toronto International Film Festival Carey Mulligan has delivered some really great looks on the red carpet. I am loving all of her looks. She has always been one who to me just scraped by not living up to her potential. She has really made the effort to deliver gorgeous looks from head to toe. For her look on the red carpet at the AFI Fest I went to this modern take on 1920’s style with this black and white Victoria Beckham Spring 2018 RTW ensemble made up of a plunging v-neck top with a pleated waist detail, and sheer appearance and a midi length skirt with a high waist, and twisted yoke with sequin details. This look is such a chic glamorous and classic, but also incredibly modern all at the same time. While it does have very distinct vintage inspired vibes it doesn’t come across as a costume. I would have Carey style this look with a sleek low bun, red lip, kohl rimmed eyes, a pair of black Gucci ‘Ilse’ crystal embellished sandals with a pink sole, and a pair of dainty Cartier diamond briolite chandelier earrings to really make this look perfect for the AFI Awards red carpet.Mary J. Blige will have just come off of being honored at the Hollywood Film Awards when Mudbound screens at this years AFI Fest. I am hearing a lot of awards buzz for Mary so I have a feeling that she will be on top form from now until the Oscars. So far at the premieres for Mudbound Mary has only worn black looks on the red carpet. I went outside of that with red for the Hollywood Film Awards, but I am back to black for her for the AFI Fest red carpet. I wasn’t the hugest fan of the Lanvin Spring 2018 RTW collection, but there are a few bright spots that I want to see on the red carpet. One of those looks is this black Lanvin Spring 2018 RTW ensemble which is a strapless evening gown which features a strapless neckline, a fitted bodice, and a sheer maxi length layered over a pair of silk cigarette pants and I think that Mary would definitely make it work with and edge that other might not. Some might compare this to Emma Stone’s iconic Lanvin jumpsuit with a train, but I think that it would have a very different vibe on Mary. I think that Mary would look amazing in this look with a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Very Lace’ platform peep toe pumps, sleek hair, winged cat eyes, a red lip, and a statement Bulgari necklace of rubies, emeralds, turquoise, diamond, and gold.Anya Taylor Joy’s star has slowly started to rise and with the help of stylist Ilaria Urbinati (who dresses Nina Dobrev, Tom Hiddleston, and Krysten Ritter) she has captured the eye of the fashion industry. We often see Anya in brands like Prada, Miu Miu, Gucci, and Dolce & Gabbana. Edgy yet feminine and glamorous creations all the time. Anya will be presenting her film Thoroughbreds at the 2017 AFI Fest after presenting it first at the London Film Festival. For the AFI Fest red carpet I went to the edgier side of Anya’s style picking this black and white Balmain Spring 2018 RTW long sleeve leather midi-dress and a dramatic ruffled hem. On many this gown would be extremely sexy, but I think the overt sex appeal would be toned down due to the fact that Anya doesn’t throw her sex appeal around like the standard member of the Balmain Army. I would keep the styling of this look really sleek with a red lip, kohl rimmed eyes, black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistpearls’ sandals, sleek high ponytail, and a pair of diamond and pearl Annoushka ear pins to really ensure that Anya has another beautiful look under her belt.Thoroughbreds also stars another rising star Olivia Cooke, who was a guest of Burberry at the Met Gala earlier this year. Olivia has several projects on the pipeline set to be released and I am really excited to see what she will bring to the red carpets. She has been one that I have kinda followed for a while now and I am really interested in seeing what she will bring to the red carpets as the hype behind her promo tours continues to grow. She wore a feminine and edgy Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini dress for the London Film Festival premiere of Thoroughbreds and I went for pure feminine elegance for Olivia to wear on the red carpet for the films premiere at the AFI Fest. I think that Olivia would look so chic and lovely wearing this Valentino Spring 2018 RTW 3D floral embroidered cap sleeve shift dress. This dress is very chic and laid back while still being completely event appropriate. I think that this dress perfectly fits Olivia and the events aesthetic perfectly. With a loose updo, a simple lined eye, light pink lip, and a pair of gold Valentino ‘Rockstud’ metallic leather sandals this look would ensure Olivia has a perfect AFI Fest premiere look. Zoe Kravitz is always one that I look forward to seeing on the red carpet and when I saw that her film Gemini was selected for the American Independents selection at this years AFI Fest. This has been the little film that could Zoe has been presenting it since the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. With that in mind I wonder if she will step out on the red carpet at the AFI Fest, or if the film will run more under the radar. I would love to see Zoe on the AFI Fest red carpet and I think that this black Adam Selman Spring 2018 RTW pajama inspired ensemble would be a really great option for her to rock. Pajama dressing on the red carpet is a huge trend that isn’t slowing down anytime soon and I think that this look plays to the idea of meshing pajama dressing and tuxedo dressing. This look would be made absolutely perfect by pairing it with a smokey eye, red lip, black Gianvito Rossi feather-embellished ankle-wrap sandals, and a diamond and emerald Piaget necklace worn under the top to really make sure this look oozes sexy glamour.
