We are just about a week out from the first awards show of the race to the 2018 Academy Awards with the Hollywood Film Awards. I am really excited to get this show on the road. This year has been such a great year for fashion that with all of the award shows that are coming up over the next month all have the potential to throw a wrench in my Best Dressed of the Year list, that I always think I have locked up by November 1st. I really do hope that all of the honorees and cast members of films that are being honored all step out in high style and top form to kick off awards season in the right way. Andra Day is being honored with songwriter Diane Warren and featured artist Common with the Hollywood Song Award for the title ‘Stand Up For Something’ from Marshall. I am interested to see what Andra will bring to the red carpet at the Hollywood Film Awards. Everything that she touches seems to turn to glamour and I think that she will definitely be one of the most dramatic moments on this red carpet. I went for all glamour with a large dose of sexy with this royal blue Georges Hobeika Fall 2017 Couture long sleeve gown which features a metallic draped skirt with a daring split and a fully embroidered sheer top. I think that Andra would definitely shut this gown down on a red carpet. It could come across as too much for a smaller film awards red carpet, but I think that would be just the prerogative that Andra would be able to bring to the red carpet. With chic 40s inspired updo with white flowers, a silver Judith Leiber Couture ‘Disco Ball’ minaudiere with a chic tassel detail, a heavy smokey eye, bold red lips, silver Jaggar ‘Lane’ metallic sandals, and a pair of dazzling diamond and sapphire Van Cleef & Arpels statement earrings I think that all eyes will be on Andra. Honestly after the drama that I picked for Andra the rest of the wishes I have for the 2017 Hollywood Film Awards are just on the boring side. Kate Winslet is going to be honored with the Hollywood Actress Award for her performance in Wonder Wheel. It is no secret that I find Kate’s style incredibly boring and predictable. She almost always wears black or white and it is usually a fitted dress. So I stuck to that very small, albeit boring, box and picked this simple black Lanvin Spring 2018 RTW chainmail mesh cap sleeve evening gown for Kate to wear for this red carpet. I think that this is exactly something that would fall right into Kate’s wheel house for red carpet dresses. It isn’t anything that will land her on any best dressed list, but with the right styling she can stay off the worst dressed. I think that a sleek updo, dazzling Chopard chandelier earrings, a red lip, kohl rimmed eyes, a black Judith Leiber Couture ‘Tuxedo’ crystal-trim satin clutch, and a pair of simple black Christian Louboutin ‘Mira Bella’ leather peep toe strappy sandals all would be the perfect formula to make this a chic moment for Kate. Zoe Kazan is par of the cast of The Big Sick which will be honored with the Hollywood Comedy Ensemble Award at the 2017 Hollywood Film Awards. A while ago she caught my eye when she wore this gorgeous red and white stripe custom Miu Miu gown for the Emmy Awards in 2015. She was one of my Ones To Watch in my 2015 End of the Year Awards, but then she didn’t really do anything for a long time. When I saw that she had a movie to promote this year I was intrigued to see what she would bring to the red carpets. Sadly the looks that she wore for the promo tour for The Big Sick didn’t live up to my expectations. She wore Erdem, Vivetta, and Huishan Zhang over the course of the tour and none of them got me really excited. I am hoping that if the film has any sort of an awards season run that Zoe will deliver some beautiful moments on the red carpet. I went back to Miu Miu for Zoe to wear for the Hollywood Film Awards with this ivory Miu Miu Spring 2018 RTW midi gown which features spaghetti straps and beaded floral embroidery. I think that this dress lengthened to hit the floor and obviously styled without the sleeveless buttoned down collared shirt that it was paired with on the runway all would make this a beautiful gown. A loose romantic updo, simple defined eyes, a pink lip, a nude to white ombre Prada ‘Torpedo’ frame sequin clutch, and a pair of silver Miu Miu jeweled glitter sandals all would add the perfect finishing touches to this look.
