Lady Bird premiered in Toronto and I will say that I was rather underwhelmed by what the director and cast wore on the red carpet. With the large cast of lovely ladies and being directed by Greta Gerwig I was expecting some really great looks, but only Greta and Odeya Rush made the journey to Toronto for the festival and neither made my best dressed list.Greta Gerwig wore a strapless Giorgio Armani cocktail dress for the TIFF premiere of Lady Bird and white the dress was striking I wasn’t exactly thrilled with her styling. When she travels to the New York Film Festival to present this film I would love to see Greta continue to make strides in reclaiming her status as one to watch on the red carpet. I am in love with this rose red Brock Collection Spring 2018 RTW pencil dress which features a strapless neckline, rouched breast detail, floral embroidery, front pockets, and a sheath silhouette and I definitely think that it would make for a gorgeous bohemian gypsy meets ladies who luncheon cocktail ensemble for Greta to wear for her big premiere. I think that Greta’s more effortless approach to red carpet dressing would mesh perfectly and be elevated by this dress especially when paired with a chic wavy bob, smokey eye, a matching rose red lip, and a pair of bronze Schutz ‘Saasha Lee’ sandals.I was surprised that since the rest of the cast of Big Little Lies all attended the main Emmy Awards ceremony that Kathryn Newton did not opting just to attend the HBO after party. I was hoping that we would really get to see her deliver dramatic glamour on a major red carpet for the first time. She did look lovely however in a chic Valentino gown at the after party. I was sad that Kathryn, with two films premiering at film festivals from Venice to London, has skipped out on all of them so far. I hope that she will make the trip to NYC for the premiere of Lady Bird at the New York Film Festival. NYFF has a more laid back approach to dressing than Venice and Toronto so a great cocktail moment would be perfect. I would love to see Kathryn wearing this beautiful smokey ombre Marchesa Resort 2018 cocktail dress that features a strapless neckline, all over ruffle texture, and a wide waistband detail. The frothy dress would definitely be a major red carpet moment and I think that against Kathryn’s pale skin and strawberry blonde hair that it would be absolute perfection. I would keep the styling sleek with a low, side parted bun, kohl rimmed eyes, red lips, and a pair of simple black Stuart Weitzman ‘Nudistsong’ sandals would add the perfect finishing touches against this look for Kathryn. Odeya Rush was the only member of the cast of Lady Bird to join Greta on the red carpet at the films premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and it wasn’t good. Odeya has been one who I thought was going to be a major fashion player back when she promoted The Giver a few years ago as a relative unknown. Since then she hasn’t really been in anything big and her style hasn’t really evolved despite interest from major brands like Dior, Marc Jacobs, and Zac Posen. The custom Dior dress that Odeya wore for the TIFF premiere of Lady Bird was just plain ugly. I don’t think anyone could have made it work and I am hoping that Odeya will redeem herself at the films New York Film Festival premiere. This chic black floral jacquard Prabal Gurung Resort 2018 cocktail dress which features an asymmetric neckline, embroidered lace cutout, midi length, and a front split would definitely ensure that Odeya has a very classic glam moment on the red carpet. I would keep this look very classic with a chic chignon, kohl rimmed eyes, red lip, gold set diamond drop earrings, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Crossettinetta’ gold flecked patent leather pumps to ensure that Odeya redeems herself in the most glamorous way possible. I was honestly most surprised that Saoirse Ronan didn’t join Greta Gerwig and Odeya Rush to premiere Lady Bird in Toronto. She is the biggest name in this cast so I was hoping that she would be on the red carpet. I am hoping she will fly into NYC for the New York Film Festival premiere of the film. I think that for a NYFF premiere that this white daisy macrame lace Giambattista Valli Resort 2018 sleeveless dress that features a jewel neckline, contrasting paneled detailing, and a flared hem would be a gorgeous moment on the red carpet. Like I said we usually see a more laid back approach to red carpet dressing at the New York Film Festival and I think that this is a perfect look for this red carpet. This dress could go more casual or more cocktail which is one of the many things I really love about it, it is a versatile dress (which is definitely something I would look for in a dress priced over $4,000) and how it would come across on the red carpet will all come down to the styling. I would love to elevate this look with a pair of silver and pink floral Christian Louboutin ‘Feerica’ crystal embellished pumps, romantic updo, smokey eye, and a bright pink lip.
