London Fashion Week is always the quickest of all the fashion weeks. It kicked off on Friday September 15 and ended yesterday Tuesday September 19. It technically is London Fashion Five Days instead of week long, but there was a lot of artistry packed into those five days. Some of my favorite avant garde designers show in London and they definitely did not disappoint. Chalayan: When it comes to runway shows I am always interested to see what Chalayan will send down the runway. I always look through the Chalayan collections looking for amazing red carpet moments that could happen. In the past we have only seen very edgy stars like Rihanna, Marion Cotillard, and Sophie Turner wearing the brand on the red carpet. Chalayan was also part of the creative of the infamous Lady Gaga Grammy Awards egg. The label’s Spring 2018 RTW collection was definitely much tamer than past collections and there are a few looks that I really want to see on the red carpet. This white bateau neckline gown which features draped black fringe wowed me when I saw it and I totally think that someone like Nicole Kidman would definitely make it a major moment on the red carpet.
Christopher Kane: When it comes to edgy design Christopher Kane is one brand that stars love for his edgy yet glamorous and wearable approach to avant garde designs. We often seen stars wearing Christopher Kane on the red carpet because wearing event the simplest of his designs always incorporate edge. His Spring 2018 RTW collection was chock full of potential red carpet moments, but I think that this white 3-D floral applique cage gown with a crystal embellished neckline which on the runway was worn unlined. I personally want to see it lined in white and worn by Daisy Ridley on the red carpet as she promotes Star Wars: The Last Jedi later this year. Though I could see someone like FKA Twigs wearing the runway’s unlined version on a red carpet.David Koma: It was avant garde takes on sportswear at David Koma this season. There were amazing ruffles that I can see being great for editorial and even some red carpets, but I wonder if they will translate well onto the red carpet. When I was picking the looks for many to wear on the red carpets from this collection models really came to mind. British model Jourdan Dunn would be the perfect person to bring this black lace ruffled one sleeve bodysuit under sheer lace button up track pants to life on a red carpet. Jourdan knows how to deliver sultry elegance on the red carpet and I think that this look fits right into her style.
Emilia Wickstead: There have been a lot of really major red carpet moments that have come from Emilia Wickstead this year on the likes of Emma Watson, Laura Haddock, and Diane Kruger and I have a feeling that there will be some more beautiful moments that come out of the labels Spring 2018 collection. Dramatic femininity was on the menu from Emilia in her Spring 2018 collection and I am quite excited to see all of the red carpet moments that will come out of it. I was particularly taken with this floral wallpaper print strapless gown which features a bubble tiered skirt that would absolutely make for a major moment especially on the likes of Zendaya who knows how work a dramatic silhouette like no other. Erdem: One of the highlights of London Fashion Week is always Erdem and his Spring 2018 collection didn’t disappoint. The collection was inspired by Queen Elizabeth 2 and her personal wardrobe as well as things she enjoys. There were many 1950’s silhouettes and classic Erdem florals that I can definitely picture on the red carpets, but it was this silver and red fringe strapless tea length gown that I was most taken with. This gown added a sense of modern edge to the very classic and traditional looks that dominated this runway. Westworld star Thandie Newton was the first person to come to mind when I saw this gown.
Halpern: Earlier this year I was introduced to Halpern when Marion Cotillard wore one of the brands bold sequin hybrid pant gowns to a party during the Cannes Film Festival. I have seen that same look worn subsequently by Katy Perry and Cardi B since then and I am ready to see stars seek out some of the brands other looks. Bold disco sequins were still on the menu for the brands spring 2018 collection and I am intrigued to see who will wear the new collection on the red carpet. The gorgeous Rachel McAdams would definitely kill the red carpet wearing this sequin and fan detailed strapless cocktail dress with a side split. The way this dress meshes a rather classic shape with bold detail would make for a chic moment for Rachel.Julien Macdonald: When you watch a Julien Macdonald show you always know what to expect: heavy bling and sex. Despite what any trend will be you can always expect black and silver beaded barely there cocktail dresses, gowns, and bodysuits. Most of the time I am usually just saving looks from the designers and not featuring them on my must see lists. I honestly think it was the thought of the new edgier Taylor Swift wearing this liquid silver long sleeve column gown which features an open back and dramatic side cutouts that made me really want to see it on this list. With her new edgier sound I think that this look would be a perfect look for her to wear for an event like the American Music Awards coming up in November.
Mary Katrantzou: Fun, embellishments, print, color, volume all are things that come to mind when I think of a Mary Katrantzou runway show and she definitely didn’t disappoint with her Spring 2018 Collection. This is definitely one of the shows that I will think about all through fashion month and will probably be on my list of 10 favorite collections come the close of fashion month. This green criss-cross neckline pencil dress with absolutely amazing embroidered embellishments and a fringe hem was my favorite look from the collection, but it was really hard to pick just one. The always beautiful Emily Blunt would definitely take this look and own it on a red carpet and I think that with her effortless glamour that it would be perfection.Osman: Osman was one of the last shows that I got excited about during London Fashion Week and there were a few of the looks from the collection that I can picture making chic moments on the red carpet. Uma Thurman has worn a lot of menswear inspired looks and looks trimmed with feathers and this all white look which features a white menswear inspired top and a feathered midi skirt so I think that she would definitely shut a red carpet down wearing this look, especially with some statement emerald jewelry.
Ralph & Russo: London Fashion Week kicked off with the debut of the Ralph & Russo ready-to-wear collection, and it rounds out my must see looks list. I was really excited for this collection, but I wasn’t really as excited about the collection. It was very disjointed and cheap looking versions of the labels couture collections. There were still a few looks that I really want to see on the red carpet. This blue one shoulder floral printed pleated gown with a chest cutout would make a lovely red carpet moment on Lily Collins, who would totally turn it into a modern princess moment.
