2017 New York Film Festival: “Ismael’s Ghosts” and “The Square” Premieres Red Carpet Wish List

Well the Emmy Awards, Toronto Film Festival, and the Venice Film Festival are now all behind us and I am moving onto the next major event to take place the New York Film Festival. Of all of the storied film festival the New York Film Festival is probably one of the more relaxed of all of them. We don’t see grand gowns or even a whole lot of haute couture on the red carpets at this festival and we have seen most of the films selected screen at other festival including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, and Toronto. Kicking off my wishes for this years NYFF are two films that were screened in Cannes. The first film is Ismael’s Ghosts which opened the Cannes Film Festival this year. The cast will surly be jetting into Manhattan to present the film to a US audience and I am hoping that they bring the same level of taste to the red carpet at NYFF as they did in Cannes. Charlotte Gainsbourg shunned the unspoken dramatic gown rule of the Cannes red carpet for the opening ceremony premiere of Ismael’s Ghosts to wear a micro mini Saint Laurent crystal embellished cocktail dress. I would bet that since Charlotte has basically worn nothing but Saint Laurent this year that for the Ismael’s Ghosts premiere at the New York Film Festival she will once again wear the brand on the red carpet. I think that this black Saint Laurent Fall 2017 RTW leather mini dress which features an off the shoulder portrait neckline with crystal details would be something that I can definitely see Charlotte rocking on a red carpet. I know she will have her rock and roll slept in style hair and a smokey eye to add to this look. I would only style this look with a pair of black Saint Laurent ‘Freja’ crystal studded suede d’orsay sandals to make it perfect for Charlotte. It was when Marion Cotillard stepped out on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival opening ceremony premiere of Ismael’s Ghosts wearing custom Jean Paul Gaultier Couture that I knew that her relationship with Dior was over. We got to see a side of Marion that we hadn’t seen in a long time. She has shown us since then that she is once again having fun with fashion and I cannot wait to see what she pulls out of her hat to wear for the films New York Film Festival premiere. I went back to her old friend from Dior Raf Simons and his amazing collection for Calvin Klein Spring 2018 RTW to find the perfect dress for Marion to wear. I was searching through all the new collections when I saw this red, white, blue, black, silver, and pink fringe cocktail dress and said that is it no need to look any further because this is the perfect dress for Marion. This dress is all fun and I know that if anyone can sell it to me on a red carpet then Marion can. With the dress being such a statement I would have Marion style her hair into a sleek low bun adding a kohl rimmed eye and bold red lip to the beauty aspect of this look. A red Judith Leiber Couture ‘Tuxedo’ crystal trim satin clutch and and the it shoe of the moment the white Calvin Klein asymmetrical crystal trim sandals all would add the perfect finishing touches to this look. Elisabeth Moss stars in The Square which has screened in Cannes and in Toronto. I haven’t been in love with of of Elisabeth’s red carpet looks in a really long time and I am hoping that coming off of her Emmy Award win that we really see her up her style game heading into awards season in January. There has been rumor that The Square could recieve awards nominations so I want Elisabeth to be on her best game possible. I think that for the New York Film Festival premiere of The Square that Elisabeth would be on top form wearing this black and silver beaded stripe Sally LaPointe Spring 2018 RTW long sleeve pencil dress which features a plunging neckline, midi length, long sleeves and a scarf tied waist. This gown is the perfect elevated version of a classic look for Elisabeth to wear on the red carpet at the NYFF. This dress is modern and glamorous while still being very classic at the same time. I would finish this look with classic styling including Veronica Lake waves, a red lip, a black and silver Judith Leiber Couture ‘Slim Slide’ crystal evening clutch, kohl rimmed eyed, a pair of diamond and emerald drop earrings, and black Schutz ‘Natally’ bow sandals to really ensure that Elisabeth is back on top of her game.

The 2017 New York Film Festival opens September 28, 2017 and runs through October 15, 2017.
