Schiaparelli Fall 2017 Couture: Fashioning Fantasy

I was absolutely blown away with the Schiaparelli Fall 2017 Couture collection. It was the first collection since his debut that I think Bertrand Guyon delivered an absolutely breathtaking, light, and airy collection. I was in love with the use of tulle and chiffon in most of this collection instead of the heavy brocades and embroideries that have dominated the runway at the house for several seasons now. The collection still stayed true to the fantasy and love of the absurd that made Elsa Schiaparelli famous back in the 30’s and 40’s but this collection didn’t seem like it was looking back and much as others have. The collection felt very current and modern with nods to the signature styles of the house that Elsa built. If I were dressing the characters of a modern day fairy tale I believe that there are looks in this collection that would fit every single role. From the wicked stepmother to the prince and the pauper, even little red ridding hood. There was definitely a beautiful take on fairy tale fashion that walked the runway at the Schiaparelli show in Paris yesterday. I had begun to think that Schiaparelli was just going to be a heritage brand that consistently remade the same styles that made the house famous. I was given a new hope that we will continue to see the brand grow into the modern era. I love the nods to classic glamour, but the overall fresh and new vibe I felt from this collection make it one of my favorites of couture week so far. There are so many of these looks that I really want to see on a red carpet. I had a hard time picking between my three favorites for which one to single out as my favorite look from this collection. It was ultimately after watching the video of the show that I 100% fell absolutely madly in love with the yellow sweetheart neck chiffon dress. The moment I saw a picture of that on the runway my first wish for it to be worn on the red carpet was for the gorgeous Angelina Jolie. It might be a stretch to wish for it for Angie because of the bold color I think that she has the the regality in her presence to really make this look a truly divine moment on the red carpet. Other stars I think would wear the gorgeous ranks of this collection include Miley Cyrus, Carina Lau, Taylor Schilling, Ruby Rose, Camilla Belle, Tracee Ellis Ross, Melissa George, Cate Blanchett, Kylie Minogue, Uzo Aduba, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Uma Thurman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Thandie Newton, January Jones, Madonna, Renee Zellweger, Emily Blunt, Olivia Wilde, Karlie Kloss, Juliette Binoche, Rihanna, Gwendoline Christie, Tilda Swinton, Jane Fonda, Hailee Steinfeld, Celine Dion, Milla Jovovich, Emmy Rossum, Halsey, Zendaya, Rita Ora, Diane Kruger, and Elizabeth Banks.
