2017 Tony Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

The 2017 Tony Awards are just four days away and I am really excited for this years red carpet because I think it will be the best year yet. I don’t know what the coordinators of these big events have been drinking, but I say keep them coming. On top of Anna Wintour working with the lesser known stars of Broadway and the lineup of a-list talent that is both nominated and presenting I am sure that we are bound to see a myriad of different looks on the red carpet. The queen of any red carpet she steps on, Cate Blanchett is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her run in The Present. The theater where Cate performed The Present each night was just blocks from the apartment I stayed in during New York Fashion Week. I was hoping to get to see Cate in this show, but unfortunately I was unable to attend. I am really hoping that my queen becomes just another step closer to becoming an EGOT (a winner of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.) Winning a Tony would put Cate half way to the EGOT as she already has two Oscars under her belt. All Cate would need is a killer TV movie or miniseries for an Emmy and to narrate a major audio book for a Grammy and she would join the exclusive club only 12 people are a member of. What we know Cate will most likely win on Sunday for sure is the coveted title of Best Dressed. Now I fear our queen, who has a long lasting relationship with Armani, is being sucked into the style succubus of Louis Vuitton. She wore the label to the Tony Awards last year and it was one of my worst dressed of the night. I am praying that when she steps out this year that she is all glam from head to toe. I think that this strapless Armani Prive Spring 2017 Couture gown which features a orange and grey target like bodice and black beaded fringe column skirt would be absolutely gorgeous. I can see Cate standing with her statuesque elegance against the green shrubs and red rose walls that have lined the Tony’s red carpet in recent years wearing this gown and being totally mesmerizing. With a sleek hairstyle, smokey eye, red lip, diamond drop earrings, a pair of black sandals, and a dazzling diamond bracelet that this would see Cate totally on top of her game again. Of all of the lesser known stars of Broadway I am holding out the most hope for Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 star Denée Benton. The actress, who is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, has consistently worn looks from the Altuzarra Spring 2017 RTW collection for theater awards events since the Tony nominations were announced a little over a month ago. I think that come the Tony red carpet on Sunday night that we will see Denée step out again wearing a design by Altuzarra. I would love to see Joseph Altuzarra create a custom gown for Denée to wear for the Tony Awards inspired by this purple velvet Altuzarra Fall 2017 RTW cocktail dress. The delicate floral embellishment on the bodice along with the dramatic plunging neckline, ribbon tied waist, and flirty silhouette would be perfection for a major Tony red carpet moment. I think that the color on Denée would be gorgeous as well. Laura Linney has never really been one to wow me and it has been a really long time since she has worn a look that I have actually loved seeing her wear. I am not holding out hope that Laura will deliver anything that will land on the top of my best of the Tony’s list, but I do hope for something that does fit the evening. I would make the bet that whatever Laura wears on Sunday that it will be Michael Kors. It could be a custom gown but I do think that Laura could get away with wearing this black beaded fringe flapper dress from the Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2017 collection. It isn’t very often that I am okay with a sort dress for a major awards show, but I think that Laura could get away with this as it is still very dramatic and theatrical, but in a modern and chic way. With stiff competition for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Play I don’t know if Laura will win so why not have fun and go for the shorter hemline? This is Stephanie J. Block’s second Tony Award nomination and I have to say that I have no idea who will win the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical award this year. I have read that Stephanie is looking pretty good to take home the the award for her performance in Falsettos. Zac Posen has been a good luck charm for actresses nominated in this category in recent year, so I think it would be a safe choice for Stephanie to make for the designer of her gown this year. I think that Stephanie would look so chic walking the Tony Awards red carpet wearing this teal Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2017 gown which features a straight across neckline, off the shoulder sleeves, and pleated detail on the skirt. If the red carpet is lined in red roses like it was last year I think that this gown would just pop. It is a very classic silhouette and I think that if Stephanie does have to run up to the stage at Radio City that she would have a timeless winning look.Taraji P. Henson is one of the a-list presenters who will take to the red carpet on Sunday night and I am really excited to see what she will deliver. After a killer awards season run for Hidden Figures I think that we will see a very dramatic and theatrical look from Taraji which is why I picked this black and white Elizabeth Kennedy Fall 2017 RTW gown which features a strapless neckline, a mermaid silhouette, and sequin and feather embroidery throughout. I think that this gown screams wear me for the Tony’s and I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone wearing it on Sunday, but I think that with her sensual sex appeal that Taraji would turn this into a true diva moment on the red carpet. Finishing the look with a sleek updo, smokey eye, red lip, diamond cluster earrings, and black sandals would make this look total perfection.

The 2017 Tony Awards are Sunday June 11, 2017.
