2017 Tony Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

The Tony Awards are one of my favorite awards events of the whole year. Over the last few years, under the watchful eye of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, we have seen the awards show undergo a huge redesign to make it a more glam event. Wintour has been working with some of the best designers, other Vogue editors, and the most powerful Hollywood stylists to elevate the looks that stars wear for the biggest night on Broadway. Anna pairs each nominee with a Hollywood stylist or a Vogue editor to dress them in some of the best designers for the Tony Awards red carpet. Bette Midler, who is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her role in the Best Revival of a Musical nominated show Hello, Dolly!, is no stranger to a red carpets and has been a guest of Anna Wintour’s at the Met Gala. I am expecting that Bette will be on the Tony Awards red carpet wearing a custom design by her friend Marc Jacobs. I usually search through designers collections to find something that I would modify for someone to wear on a red carpet, but I wasn’t able to find anything from Marc Jacobs to modify for Bette. So I went searching for something amazing for her to wear on the red carpet from another label. I think that Bette would definitely rock the red carpet at the Tony Awards wearing this this gorgeous raspberry red Reem Acra Pre-Fall 2017 column gown which features draped cold shoulder sleeves and simple floral embroidery on the neckline. I think that this gown is a pretty classic look, but I don’t really expect Bette to show up on the red carpet wearing something that really pushes the boundaries. I am expecting something beautiful and glamorous. Cynthia Nixon is a devotee of Carolina Herrera so I am expecting that at the Tony Awards on Sunday that we will see the former Sex and the City star step onto the red carpet wearing the designer yet again. Nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play for her very critically acclaimed performance in Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes I am expecting that Cynthia will deliver a very chic moment on the red carpet at the Tony’s. I think that with her skin tone and strawberry blonde hair that Cynthia would look absolutely beautiful in this violet and copper Carolina Herrera Pre-Fall 2017 one shoulder gown which features a sweetheart neckline, single twist strap, and contrasting velvet material. The other option that I think is a good possibility for Cynthia to wear on the red carpet at the Tony’s is that she will wear a look from the yet to be presented, upcoming Carolina Herrera Resort 2018 collection. I think that is probably the more likely. Whatever Cynthia wears I know it will be the epitome of simple yet elegant. Bette Midler’s Hello, Dolly! co-star Kate Baldwin, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, is one that I am expecting to take notice of on a red carpet for the first time. You know here at If I Was A Stylist that we love a red head, so I am intrigued to see what she will bring the red carpet. This is not Kate’s first Tony Nomination. She was previously nominated in 2010 for Finian’s Rainbow, but this is the first time that she will walk the red carpet since Anna Wintour burst onto the scene to elevate the awards. I would love to see Kate take the carpet by storm wearing this greenish gold Andrew Gn Pre-Fall 2018 strapless brocade ball gown which features a baroque scroll embroidered sweetheart neckline and a pleated a-line skirt. As regular readers know I love a redhead in green and I think that this mossy tone of golden green would look so chic against Kate’s hair color and peachy alabaster skin tone. I feel like it has been a while since we last saw a really good red carpet moment from Sally Field and I am really looking forward to seeing what she will wear for the Tony Awards on Sunday night. I think that Sally would look so elegant walking the Tony Awards red carpet, where she is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play, wearing this oxblood Rosetta Getty Fall 2017 RTW ruched cap sleeve bias gown features a gathered cap sleeve and sheath silhouette. This gown is so chic and I think that Sally would look absolutely beautiful rocking it on the Tony red carpet. Tony Award winner Scarlett Johansson is slated to be one of the many celebrity presenters at the awards on Sunday night. When it comes to her style I find ScarJo to be very up and down. I usually either love what she wears, or I really dislike it. I am hoping that when she steps out on the red carpet on Sunday that she will deliver one of those beautiful moments that I fall in love with. It isn’t very often that we see Scarlett out of somber, dark colors but I am really hoping that for the Tony Awards this year that she embraces something bold. I would love to see Scarlet step onto the red carpet wearing this beautiful red Christian Dior Cruise 2018 pleated gown which features thick logo embellishes straps and a flowing a-line skirt. This gown isn’t dramatic or overbearing for a presenter to wear, but something that is bold and classic all at the same time. I would ditch the think black leather belt that the gown was paired with on the runway as I think it would cut Scarlett in two making her appear shorter than she actually is.

The 2017 Tony Awards will take place Sunday June 11, 2017.
