Cannes 2017: “Okja” Photocall & Premiere Red Carpet Wish List

There is a bit of controversy surrounding the 2017 Cannes Film Festival premiere of Okja. The film is one of two original films produced by Netflix that have been selected to compete in the main competition at this years festival. Following the festival the films are slated to go straight to streaming which has alarmed some French theater owners who run on the fact that the festival requires all films that are screened to have a theatrical opening in France. That is not the case with Okja. It has prompted the festival organizers to announce that after this years festival that unless Netflix will have a French theatrical release that their films will not be added to the selections in years moving forward. I am excited for the premiere of Okja because the cast is amazing. I adore seeing Lily Collins and Tilda Swinton on the red carpet and I cannot wait to see what they will bring this year. Lily Collins has some amazing style and I am really excited to see her make her Cannes Film Festival debut this year with her film Okaj. I hope that with her supporting role in the film that Lily will still jet to Cannes and indulge in the full experience of the festival. For the films photocall I am really going for something bright, young, and fun for Lily to wear. This chic robins egg blue Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2017 sleeveless dress which features a rounded neckline with stud details, lace across chest, and a tiered ruffle skirt. Lily’s stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn have been loving this color this year and I think that Lily would look oh so chic wearing this dress on the balcony overlooking the French Riviera for the photocall. For the premiere I went back to one of the 10 gowns I wanted to see at the Cannes Film Festival last year with this gorgeous metallic floral print silk Chanel Spring 2016 Couture halter gown which features an embellished bodice. I think that this could be a truly magical moment on the red carpet. With the film being the feature premiere for the day the stakes of a really good are really high and I think that Lily would just ooze feminine sophistication on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals in this creation. I am really excited that the gorgeous and androgynous Tilda Swinton is going to be back on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. The last time we had a Swinton Sighting at Cannes was back in 2013 while she as promoting Only Lovers Left Alive. I cannot wait to see what kind of looks Tilda will bring to the red carpet this year. For the films photocall I think that this Chanel Spring 2017 Couture tweed coat dress is something right up Tilda’s ally. I think that this look is chic, classic, and feminine look and I think for a photocall at Cannes that this is a perfect look. For the premiere I went to a new label for Tilda with this navy blue Alexis Mabille Spring 2017 Couture off the shoulder, long sleeve, column gown which features an embellished, ruffled neckline and a belted waistline. This is a pretty standard gown if it wasn’t for the beaded neckline it would be a classic. I think that Tilda is one of the few women in the world the the stature and presence to really make this gown come to life on the red carpet and I think that for Cannes that it would be a perfect option. Rounding out this look with a bold lined eye, red lip, and navy pumps would make this a perfectly avant garde and glamorous moment for Tilda to wear in Cannes.I have been showing many different incarnations of the princess look for international feature film jury member Fan Bingbing to wear on the red carpet during the Cannes Film Festival. Today my princess gown for Fan to wear is this gorgeous black Zuhair Murad Fall 2016 Couture tiered ball gown which features gorgeous beaded embroidery and three quarter length bell sleeves. This gown is bohemian princess meets Victorian vampire princess, which is a different look for Fan. I am all about seeing Fan take the Cannes Film Festival red carpets by storm with new and different looks each time that she does. I think that this look with a loose updo, red lip, statement diamond earrings, and black pumps would be absolutely amazing. If there is one thing that I absolutely adore it is seeing a red head rocking green on the red carpet. I am really hoping that over the course of the festival that at least one of Jessica Chastain’s red carpet looks will be green. I went back in the Elie Saab archive and picked this absolutely gorgeous emerald green strapless a-line gown covered in beautiful beaded embroidery from the labels Fall 2013 Couture collection. This gown is regal and Jessica would look like a queen of the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, like I am betting that she will be from when it opens to when it closes. Styling this look with a romantic updo, lined eye, diamond and emerald cluster earrings, matching emerald sandals, and a red lip will ensure that this look is just another beautiful and regal moment for Mrs. Chastain. I don’t have many wishes for Mistress of Ceremonies Monica Bellucci left to feature. I have a feeling that we will see very limited looks from Monica over the course of this years edition. I do believe that we will be seeing Monica wear a bunch of Dolce & Gabbana looks on the red carpet at the festival this year. Monica has been a face of Dolce and very loyal to the brand in the past. I just hope that she gives us a little variety in the styles that she picks for her red carpet appearances. This red Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2016 lace and fringe gown is right up Monica’s ally and I think that it really deserves a red carpet moment. The gown is Italian glamour to it’s core and I think that Monica could really make this gown come to life on the red carpet. A loose updo, smokey eye, red lip, and red sandals would add the perfect finishing touches.

The Cannes Film Festival premiere of Okaj is on Thursday May 18, 2017. This years edition opens Wednesday May 17 and runs through Sunday May 28, 2017.
