Cannes 2017: L’Orealista’s Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

We are marching on with Cannes. I still may be basking in the glamour of the Met Gala last night, but we are now officially in full gear in anticipation of the most glamorous two weeks of the year. What helps elevate the glamour of Cannes is that beauty brand L’Oreal Paris jets it’s ambassador’s (dubbed L’Orealista’s) to walk the red carpet us to add glamour to the red carpets. We see these ladies grace the croisette wearing some of the most coveted couture options in the world and I can’t wait to see what they will bring to the red carpet this year. As I looked back on her history at Cannes it seems that Andie MacDowell only attends the festival on rare occasion. The last time that Andie was in Cannes was back in 2015 and I am hoping that she will be back on the red carpet this year. While Andie doesn’t deliver the same extreme couture moments that other L’Oreal girls do on the red carpet, but her looks are still usually the epitome of glamour and elegance. Having just worn of of the short looks from the Bottega Veneta Pre-Fall 2017 collection last week I don’t know if she will go back to the label so soon. I would love it if Andie stepped out on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival wearing this simple navy blue gown from the Bottega Veneta Pre-Fall 2017 collection which features an embellished neckline would be a glamorous moment for Andie to wear for her L’Orealista duties at Cannes. I went with something really out there in terms of what we are used to seeing Andie on the red carpet, but I think that Cannes is the perfect place for pushing boundaries, especially glamorous ones. This dusty blue beaded dandelion Elie Saab Fall 2016 Couture ball gown is not necessarily something l can totally picture Andie wearing on the red carpet, but I think that she would look oh so glamorous in this creation. This might be Elie Saab’s best collection yet and I think that the way he mixed feminine and bohemian glamour in such a high glamour couture manner just makes it perfect. Now I might have picked all blue for Andie to wear this year rounding these wishes out with this royal blue strapless Zuhair Murad Fall 2014 Couture draped ballgown which features a dramatic train jetting out from the front hip. The shape might be bolder than Andie is used to wearing on the red carpet, but the setting definitely supports the notion of go big or go home. So why shouldn’t Andie give it a shot?Every year Chinese singer and actress Li Yuchun (AKA Chris Lee) steps out on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and brings her own lane of glamour to the red carpet. While most are wearing couture gowns Chris Lee always brings edgy and androgynous glamour to the red carpet. In past years she has worn Julien Fournie, Chanel, Atelier Versace, Givenchy, Gareth Pugh, and Jean Paul Gaultier and of all of those looks only one was a gown (a waxed silk leather look gown, but still a gown.) So I went out on a mission to find the perfect looks for Li to wear this year on the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals and I think I found some really good options. This silver crystal beaded Chanel Spring 2017 Couture belted suit which features a plunging neckline is something I can see being right up Li’s ally. I think that we will surely see this suit on the red carpet during Cannes at some point (we actually saw this suit at the Met Gala last night on Cara Delevingne,) and I think that Li would be the perfect person to really bring it to life. Adding a statement necklace, silver pumps, and a smokey eye would make it a truly perfect look. Following that I dug back into the very first Ralph & Russo runway show and this white strapless ballgown over cropped pants ensemble from the labels Spring 2014 Couture collection to add a little bit of a more standard glamour look for Li to wear during Cannes. Not many people wear red carpet lady pants, but Li Yuchun really brings them to life. Back when this collection was first presented a good chunk of it was worn during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival and since then we haven’t seen a whole lot of the looks that weren’t worn have just stayed in the archive. I think that Li would be the perfect person to bring this gown out of the archive this years edition. The third look I picked for Li Yuchun to wear for her L’Orealista obligations in Cannes is this black to nude Stephane Rolland Spring 2016 Couture long sleeve tulle ball gown which features a sculpted soft spike 3D bodice. We don’t see Li wear standard gowns very often, but I think that with the edgy 3D bodice of the gown makes it something that I think that Li would rock on the red carpet with the same ease as her pants looks. Isabelli Fontana is one of the few models and L’Orealista’s that I really don’t pay much attention to on the red carpet at Cannes. When it comes to her past looks there hasn’t been a single one that I have said wow about, or even really liked to be honest. I went to the collections trying to find looks that I think would give Isabelli something to really get me interested in on the red carpet. The first is a simple metallic one shoulder Armani Prive Fall 2016 Couture column gown with a black and white striped puff sleeve. I was surprise that this gown made it through the fall festival an awards season without being worn and I think that with the more simplistic approach that Isabelli brings to the red carpet that this would be a perfect femme fatale moment for her to bring to the red carpet. One thing that I find really surprising about what lets down a lot of Isabelli’s red carpet looks is that she has bad hair or makeup. As a L’Oreal ambassador I just get shocked when any of the L’Oreal girls step out with greasy hair or bad makeup. Any look no matter how glamorous can’t save bad greasy hair or really bad makeup. When in doubt go classic. Moving on I went with a more standard Cannes look via this gold embellished Roberto Cavalli Couture column gown which features a plunging neckline. We have seen many variations of this type of gown on the red carpet on Cannes, but I think that it would be elevated on Isabelli who I know can do glamour really well on the red carpet. Rounding out my picks for Isabelli is another Armani look, but this one comes from the Giorgio Armani ready to wear label. The black gown which features embellished cap sleeve and a rouched bodice from the Giorgio Armani Pre-Fall 2017 collection could be really good or really bad. I think that on Isabelli it definitely has that potential to go that way if her beauty isn’t on point. I think that with a sleek updo, smokey eye, and a peachy pink lip that this would turn out very well. Lara Stone is one of those models that takes the Cannes red carpet every year, but not always has she given me a wow moment. Having gone sleek and modern as well as flirty and feminine so with her past there is a serious range of styles as well as designers. I hope that this year that we see a whole slate of gorgeous looks from Lara when she steps out onto the red carpet at Cannes. The first look I picked for Lara is this gorgeous antique gold Alberta Ferretti Limited Edition Spring 2017 draped lamé v-neck gown which features a bias cut and flower applique. I think that the simplistic feminine glamour of this look is perfection for Lara to wear on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. More often than not the looks that Lara goes for more simple silhouettes than gowns with dramatic trains. This is just Lara’s style in general and has definitely translated across her history of red carpet looks at Cannes. Following that I went to Atelier Versace for a more unlikely wish for Lara to wear on the red carpet. This glam goth/punk Atelier Versace Fall 2016 Couture one sleeve gown which features a raspberry embellishments bursting from cutouts and a sexy split is not something that we would normally see Lara wearing on the red carpet, but I do think that she would look so elegant giving us a glam nod to punk dressing on the red carpet. The last look I want to see Lara wearing on the red carpet at Cannes is a sleek and more modern look. This sleek blue Mugler Pre-Fall 2017 wrap gown which features metal shoulder detail, a plunging neckline, column silhouette, and a dramatic split is totally Lara and I think that the bold the color makes it a perfect style for  the Cannes Film Festival red carpet. Natasha Poly werked the red carpet at the Met Gala last night wearing a gorgeous Michael Kors gown and it just got me really excited for her turn on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Natasha always shuts it down on the red carpet at Cannes. With looks from Prada, Atelier Versace, Michael Kors, Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Roberto Cavalli, Vionnet, Saint Laurent, and Emilio Pucci in past years there is a lot for her to live up to. The three looks that I picked for Natasha would all be WOW moments. First is the gorgeous liquid orange one shoulder Armani Prive Spring 2017 Couture column gown. Regular readers will know how obsessed with seeing this gown on the red carpet I am. The soft orange color would make it the perfect look for someone to wear on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival and I do think that with her signature poses that Natasha would really bring this gown to life on the red carpet. Giving it dress the major moment I know it deserves. I went back into the Atelier Versace archive to find another really major red carpet moment for Natasha and I really think that this grey ruffled strapless gown from the Atelier Versace Fall 2015 Couture collection would deliver just that. There are few people that I think could pull off wearing this gown on the red carpet and Natasha is one of them. The gown screams edge and glamour all at the same time and I think that Natasha would just go full smokey glam with this look, adding the perfect finishing touches. The final look I picked for Natasha to rock on the red carpet in Cannes is the only repeat wish that I have amongst my L’Oreal ladies. I posted this red Ralph & Russo Spring 2017 Couture strapless ball gown yesterday for Aishwarya Rai, and I really think that is who should wear it, but I also think that Natasha would deliver it as a gorgeous moment as well.

The 2017 Cannes Film Festival opens Wednesday May 17 and runs through Sunday May 28, 2017.
