2017 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 14

I am just keeping on rolling out my wishes for the 2017 Met Gala red carpet. I am really intrigued to see what all the stars are going to bring to the red carpet this year and I can barely contain my excitement for the gala which takes place in just nine more days. I hate to say it but I am kinda glad that Amber Heard has left Johnny Depp. It seemed like while the two were together that Amber’s style suffered dramatically and now she is reemerging as one of my favorites again. Amber has been a guest at the Met Gala several times with look from designers like Ralph Lauren, Giambattista Valli, Emilio Pucci, and Zac Posen in past years. I hope that if she gets and invitation and steps out this year that she has one of her best looks yet. I have a bunch of Roberto Cavalli Couture looks saved in my archive, but they seem to be season-less. All of the gowns that I do have archived are from the time when Peter Dundas was the creative director so I don’t know if they are still up for play for stars to lay claim to them since Dundas has exited the label. I would like to think that they are since no new creative director has been announced and these looks are just too gorgeous to let lie in waste in an archive. I think that this bright floral embroidered black strapless lace gown from Roberto Cavalli Couture with its corseted plunging sweetheart neckline and column silhouette would be a gorgeous moment on Amber only adding to her glamorous history of Met Gala looks. Chrissy Teigan almost always wows me when it comes to her red carpet looks. She plays the role of the plus one perfectly wearing looks that rival the guest who attend events as honorees at awards shows on the arm of hubby John Legend, but she has never had a really major Met Gala moment. I looked back on the three times that Chrissy has graced the Met Gala red carpet and not her St. John, Ralph Lauren, or Chris March gowns were something that never made me get excited. Since gowns haven’t been a winning combination for Chrissy I decided to go short. I adored the 80’s glam rock meets 90’s grunge looks that walked the runway at the Balmain Fall 2017 RTW collection and I am honestly a little surprised that no one has worn the collection yet. I am sure that will change and I think that this bronze patchwork long sleeve fully embellished mini dress would be a perfect first outing and on Chrissy at the Met Gala I know that it is going to be a truly major moment. I don’t do much wishing for short looks for the Met Gala, but I think that this would be a truly major moment. A pair of strappy bronze platform sandals, a bronze clutch, sleek pinned back hair, and a dramatic smokey eye would really make this a real wow moment. Emmy Rossum is one of the queens of the Met Gala red carpet and I am really hoping that after skipping last year that Emmy will be back on the red carpet in full glamour again this year. I looked back on Emmy’s past Met Gala looks and I remembered my two favorite looks. The white Donna Karan Atelier she wore for Punk themed gala and the bold floral Carolina Herrera she wore to the Charles James theme were among some of my favorite looks from her in general, ever. I went back to the designer of the latter for her to wear a gorgeous custom Carolina Herrera gown for this years red carpet. I want to see Emmy take to the red carpet wearing a custom gown inspired by this bordeaux and blush ombre dotted cocktail dress from the Carolina Herrera Fall 2017 RTW collection which features a plunging neckline and a draped hip. This dress is about as close to Comme des Garçons as I think Carolina Herrera will come. This gown would be dark, romantic, and feminine which I think that Emmy would wear with such ease. I would have Emmy style this look with a gorgeous 50’s inspired lacquered hairstyle, a winged eyeliner, bordeaux lip, diamond drop earrings, bordeaux clutch, and a pair of rose gold sandals to really make this a gorgeous moment for Emmy. The perfect Met Gala return.Karlie Kloss has attended several Met Gala’s but it was only the gorgeous black and gold Oscar de la Renta gown she wore in 2014 that I have ever been truly wowed by. Karlie has great style and she has delivered some really major moments on the red carpet and I would love to see her rock the Met Gala red carpet in a really major way this year. With this years Comme des Garçons/Rei Kawakubo I feel like we will see a lot of dark, structured, and voluminous gowns on the red carpet. I went with dark and structured for Karlie with this black one sleeved gown from the Atelier Versace Fall 2016 Couture collection which features a daring center split, cutout details, ruffles, and wine red burst embellishments accentuating the structure of this gown. This was one of the bolder designs from this collection and I do believe that Donatella earmarked it to be saved for this years Met Gala red carpet and I do think that Karlie would be the perfect person to wear it. The gown is edgy, glamorous, and sexy but it could be overwhelming one someone without a statuesque stature and Karlie definitely has the stature to really make this look a very regal moment on the red carpet. A sleek ponytail, black strappy sandals, a lined eye, diamond cluster earrings, and a wine lip to match the embellishments would make this a perfect look.Nina Dobrev has celebrated at three Met Gala’s wearing Marchesa in 2016, Monique Lhuillier in 2013, and her iconic Donna Karan Atelier in 2012. Each look fit in perfectly with the theme of that years gala and I am sure the same would happen this year if she is lucky enough to get an invitation. I would love to see Nina hit the red carpet wearing this gorgeous strapless Reem Acra Fall 2017 RTW ball gown which features a gorgeous dark purple and teal print and a pink paisley neckline. This gown is feminine glamour at it’s finest but I think it plays to the volume and dark codes of Comme des Garçons. So while it is not a total interpretation of the theme I think that it would be the perfect look for Nina. I would have her style the gown with Veronica Lake waves worn over one shoulder, a smokey eye, red lip, diamond ear studs, a light pink clutch, and black sandals to really complete this look in the most glamorous way possible.Uma Thurman will be gearing up for her run as the president of the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section jury and I think that she will surely rock the red carpet at the Met Gala ahead of jetting out to the French Riviera for the festival. In past years Uma has worn Atelier Versace, Zac Posen, and Tommy Hilfiger with the Posen being my favorite of the three. Recently Uma has been front row at all of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s fashion shows for Dior and I am betting that she will wear the label for the Met Gala. I think that this black silk long sleeve gown from the Christian Dior Spring 2017 Couture collection which features a cape neck and an a-line skirt screams Uma and I know that she has the regal stature to really make this look into something major. This gown has the potential to look very puritanical but I think that on Uma that this would come across as very regal queen of the night. Styling her hair into a sleek bun and adding a smokey eye, red lip, diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of black pumps would make this a truly WOW moment for Uma.

The 2017 Met Gala will take place on Monday May 1, 2017. I will be posting the red carpet looks in real time on my fashion ID Instagram account What They Are Wearing. Please follow along and join me!
