2017 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 8

Just a week and a half stands between us and the biggest red carpet of the year. There are so many established style stars that I am hoping to see on the red carpet, but what I love about Anna Wintour is that she also scours the world for the rising style stars as well. This list has both. At the beginning of the year I had never heard of Angela Sarafayn before, but after wearing Sophie Theallet, Giles, Armani, Zac Posen, and Reem Acra I think that she is going to bode well for her being invited to the fashion prom. As Angela’s style star has just started rising I think that she would be a perfect candidate to attend this years gala with one of the fast fashion retailers. One of the dresses from fashion month that I just knew had the potential for modification was this gold sequined spaghetti strap slip dress from the Topshop Unique Fall 2017 RTW collection. Topshop has been able to hold their own against the biggest couture gowns on the Met Gala red carpet for the past several years and I know that this turned into a gown with a really dramatic train would continue that tradition. Styling this look with gold set diamond tassel earrings, old Hollywood waves over one shoulder, a smokey eye, nude lip, and a pair of gold sandals would make it a real wow moment for Angela to wear for her first Met Gala red carpet. Ella Purnell is a rising fashion star too, but she has really captured the eye of couture brands like Chanel and Dior as well as labels like Gucci and Miu Miu. I would think that it is a pretty safe bet that Ella will be a guest at this years Met Gala. I would love to see Ella take the famous Met steps wearing this gorgeous wisteria embroidered sleeveless ballgown which looks like it is right out of the archives of some 60’s couture designer. There is nothing about this gown that sings the codes of Comme des Garçons, except for maybe the volume, but I really do think that Ella would look gorgeous wearing this creation on the red carpet. If not at the Met, then where could someone wear something like this? The dramatic glamour of this gown make it a perfect fit for the Met Gala red carpet. A chic updo, diamond cluster earrings, a lined eye, a punchy pink lip, and a pair of gold pumps would finish this look with total glamour.I was looking back at Heidi Klum’s past Met Gala looks and I learned two things. 1) None of her past looks have been really stellar in my opinion. In past years Heidi has worn J. Mendel, Escada, and Marchesa but none of them have really stood out as amazing looks. I remember that Heidi was invited but it wasn’t until I looked it up she wore did I say “oh yea now I remember what she wore. 2) Is that it has been a while since she has been to a Met Gala. The last time we saw Heidi was when she wore the Marchesa gown in 2013. I would love to see Heidi back on the red carpet after her really strong Oscar night outing at this years Met Gala as a guest of her good friend and former Project Runway co-star Michael Kors. I have been waiting to see this silver fringe column gown from the Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2017 Pre-Fall 2017 collection on the red carpet since I first saw it, but I know that it will take a very statuesque woman to pull it off. As a supermodel and former Victoria’s Secret model I know that Heidi has the stature to make this a very glamorous moment on the red carpet.  Leighton Meester has been a Met Gala guest several times. She has worn Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton (twice,) Emilio Pucci, and Marchesa for past years and has bounced from best to worst dressed lists, but she always takes a risk. Leighton is dressed by one of my favorite stylists, Ilaria Urbinati, and I think that the two make magic together. If Leighton receives an invitation to this years Met Gala I would love to see her go for bold silhouette with this black balloon skirt Antonio Berardi Fall 2016 RTW sleeveless gown which features a beaded bodice, and a dramatic high low skirt and a trailing train. Some of the first looks I think of when I think of Leighton’s style are from Berardi and I think that Leighton would definitely honor their relationship by wearing this gown at the Met Gala. I think that this gown is a perfect for the Comme des Garçons/Rei Kawakubo theme and I know that Leighton would wear it with ease. I would add a tough braided updo, smokey eye, red lip, black sandals, diamond drop earrings, and a black clutch to really ensure that this is a truly WOW moment for Leighton. I was really surprised that Priyanka Chopra did not receive an invitation to last years Met Gala. The Bollywood turned Hollywood actress has been all over the red carpets and this year she attended the Academy Awards and wore couture without any official capacity just wearing hot off the runway Haute Couture. Priyanka’s stylist, Cristina Ehrlich, has teased design meetings with Jason Wu and Diane Von Furstenberg for Met Gala creations, but I am hoping for something a little different. Cristina is a huge supporter of Monse and I would love to see her take this multi-colored all over sequined graphic stripe Monse Fall 2017 RTW strapless cocktail dress and modify it into a truly dramatic gown for Priyanka to wear for this years Met Gala. I think that this could be one of those stand out moments of the night and would be absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet. After serving on the jury of the Tribeca Film Festival I hope that Priyanka will stick around and walk the red carpet at this years gala. A sleek ponytail draped over one shoulder, a red lip, kohl rimmed eye, a pair of diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of black sandals would add the perfect finishing touches. Taraji P. Henson has really mastered the art of sensual glamour on the red carpet over the last year. She started leaving Cookie on the floor of the studio at FOX and let her true persona shine through on the red carpet. Her midnight blue velvet Alberta Ferretti gown at the Oscars was pure magnificence and I am intrigued to see what she has in store for this year’s Met Gala. Taraji has only been a guest at the Met Gala once, in 2015, where she was a guest of Balenciaga and then creative director Alexander Wang. Some of Taraji’s best looks have been thanks to Mr. Wang and I would love to see him bring her as his guest again this year. I would j’adore seeing Taraji take to the Met Gala red carpet wearing this Alexander Wang Fall 2017 RTW off the shoulder long sleeve dress which feature a neckline which reminds me of an inverted keyhole turned into a full length gown with a cape like train. I think that this look would mix the edge, glamour, and sex appeal in such a perfect way. A romantic updo, smokey eye, diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of black Christian Louboutin pumps would ensure that this is another gorgeous moment.

The 2017 Met Gala will take place on Monday May 1, 2017. I will be posting the red carpet looks in real time on my fashion ID Instagram account What They Are Wearing. Please follow along and join me!
