2017 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 6

The Met Gala attracts such a wide variety of guests. That is why I think I get so excited about it each and every year. Stars from each and and every industry from around the world converge in New York City to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Iconic supermodel Amber Valletta has graced the Met Steps for the many years now having worn looks from Galliano for Dior, Prada, Atelier Versace, Roland Mouret, Saint Laurent, H&M, Alberta Ferretti so I think that it is a pretty safe bet that she will be on the red carpet this year. Modifications have been the name of the game for a lot of my wishes this year and my wish for Amber is no different. Since Jonathan Saunders took the helm at Diane Von Furstenberg there have been a lot more DVF looks on the red carpet. It used to be that the Met was really the only night that we would see DVF on the red carpet, last year she dressed Riley Keough, but I am not complaining. For this years gala I would love to see Amber take to the red carpet in a modified version of this black Diane Von Furstenberg Fall 2017 RTW one shoulder fluid gown which features an adjustable shoulder strap with buckle and mermaid skirt. I think that this gown lengthened to a full length and adding a dramatic train would be the perfect red carpet moment for Amber. I would go full glam with an old Hollywood updo, lined eye, red lip, gold drop earrings, a pair of black sandals, and a gold cuff to really make this a truly gorgeous red carpet moment. Deepika Padukone made a splash on the red carpet earlier this year when she made the jump from Bollywood to Hollywood with a role in the blockbuster action film xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Deepika has caught the eye of labels like Johanna Ortiz, Prabal Gurung, Monique Lhuillier, Ralph & Russo, and Stella McCartney with the help of Hollywood power stylist Elizabeth Saltzman. Deepika was announced as a face of L’Oreal Paris India which got me really excited about her having a turn at Cannes, but then I heard that she won’t be attending because she will be on location working on her next film. I wonder if that same project would keep her from attending the Met Gala as well. I would absolutely love it if Deepika did make a bold entrance on fashion’s biggest carpet. This hot pick one shoulder Marchesa Pre-Fall 2017 satin ball gown which features a asymmetric neckline and rose embroidery would be that eye catching moment that could really help Deepika’s image. It would take a lot for a rising star to outshine some of the seasoned red carpet veterans at the Met Gala, and this is one of those moments. Hailee Steinfeld has had a killer year this year (with just one blip) and I am hoping that she will deliver something absolutely gorgeous on this red carpet. The moment I saw this creamsicle orange organza gown with a spaghetti strap ball gown from the Christian Dior Spring 2017 Couture which features a cowel neck and gorgeous subtle celestial embroidery Hailee was the first person that came to mind and I think that the Met Gala would be the perfect place for her to wear this creation. There are some looks from this collection that fit in perfectly with the signature edge of Comme des Garçons/Rei Kawakubo, but this isn’t one of them. This gown is just pure feminine elegance and I think that Hailee would be absolutely gorgeous wearing this confection on the red carpet. A simple pair of gold sandals, diamond cluster earrings, a loose romantic updo, and a soft peachy smokey eye would really make this one of the most gorgeous red carpet moments Hailee has ever had. For someone who loves extravagant fashion I am really surprised that Lady Gaga has not attended more Met Gala’s. Gaga has only walked the red carpet twice once in Balenciaga and the other in Atelier Versace. There was one other time where Gaga slipped in the back door wearing a very subtle Prada suit. I am really intrigued to see what Gaga will bring to the red carpet if she attends this year. I adored the finale reinterpretations of archival Balenciaga looks that Demma Gvasalia presented with his Fall 2017 RTW collection for the iconic label. The sad thing is that most people will veer away from the very avant garde styles of these looks as they are a bit much. Gaga is one of those few who I can picture bringing those looks to life with ease. I would drop dead on the floor if Gaga showed up wearing this black and white striped strapless cocoon dress which was originally created by Cristóbal Balenciaga for his Fall 1958 collection. Of course this dress is dramatic and not many will be brave enough to wear it, but this is totally something that Gaga would just wear even for a trip to the airport or a turn on the sidewalk. I would go full 50’s glam with a chic beehive, a really dazzling chunky diamond necklace, and the orange jersey thigh high boots, and a pair of white opera gloves to really make this a totally gorgeous red carpet moment. Until last year Nicole Kidman hadn’t been a guest at the Met Gala since 2005. All of Nicole’s past gala gowns have been gorgeous. Gucci by Tom Ford in 2003, Chanel Couture in 2005, and Alexander McQueen last year were all the gorgeous and I am really intrigued to see if she will be on the red carpet this year. This year is on track to be the year of Nicole Kidman. With it starting with an Oscar run and now 4 projects slated for this years Cannes Film Festival it seems like Nicole Kidman is full steam ahead this year, and it would be surprising to me if she is not at the Met Gala this year. Nicole was seated front row at the Armani Prive Spring 2017 Couture presentation back in January and then subsequently wore a look (that I predicted!) from the collection to the Academy Awards. I decided that I wanted Nicole to wear one more look from the collection for the Met Gala. I think that this black beaded fringe Armani Prive Spring 2017 Couture strapless gown which features a curved silver and orange bustier would be amazing. I think the gown pays a great tribute to the Comme des Garçons/Rei Kawakubo theme and I think that Nicole would be absolutely statuesque wearing this creation. The look plays to that edgy, sculptural, and dark vibes of Comme des Garçons and I am sure that someone will snatch this gown up for this years Met and I really want that to be Nicole. Style the look with a pair of citrine drop earrings, a red lip, black sandals, and a sleek updo and this will be yet another red carpet win for Nicole, who is well on her way to being this years red carpet diva. The Met Gala is usually the big night for brands that we don’t see a whole lot of dramatic red carpet gowns from. Now Altuzarra has some gorgeous gown that he shows on the runway but the looks that he concocts for the Met Gala are just beyond amazing. In the past few years Altuzarra has dressed Lea Michele, Mackenzie Davis, Michelle Monaghan, Keri Russell, Allison Williams, and Lana Del Rey and I would love for him to add Sienna Miller to that list this year. Sienna has worn a whole bevy of brands on past Met Gala red carpets including Gucci, Thakoon, Burberry, and Emilio Pucci and I really do think that the bohemian beauty would be the perfect person to bring an Altuzarra look to the red carpet this year. I think that Sienna would be gorgeous walking the Met Gala red carpet wearing this red and wine striped Altuzarra Fall 2017 RTW gown which features all over white floral embroidery. The gown is definitely exploding with visual details, but I think that Sienna has the presence to work through all the details and really turn this into an effortlessly glamorous moment.

The 2017 Met Gala will take place on Monday May 1, 2017. I will be posting the red carpet looks in real time on my fashion ID Instagram account What They Are Wearing. Please follow along and join me!
