2017 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 5

The days until the 2017 Met Gala are just creeping up and I am getting more and more excited as the days go by. There are so many new starlets that have never been at the Met that I can see being invited this year. One of those stars is Anya Taylor Joy. Over the last year Anya has made her mark on red carpets wearing Gucci, Miu Miu, Prada, Alexander McQueen, and Elie Saab. I decided to go with this gorgeous strapless Schiaparelli Spring 2017 Couture strapless a-line gown which features this bold surrealist pattern because I think that it would be a gorgeous red carpet moment for Anya. She has worn the label once before and it was a great moment and I think that this would be gorgeous abstract moment which I think would fit in perfectly on the Comme des Garçons/Rei Kawakubo theme for this years gala and exhibit. With the Met Gala coming the night before this years Tony Awards nominations I am sure some of the people that we are going to see nominated this year will be on the red carpet. Anna Wintour is a huge lover of the theater, and even acts as an advisor on the Tony Awards red carpet, so it does not come as any bit of a surprise that she invites the best of Broadway who usually have Monday nights off. Cate Blanchett seems like a good bet for a Best Leading Actress in a Play nomination at this years Tony Awards and with that in mind I bet that she gets an invitation to this years gala. I was surprised that Cate has only been a guest at the Met twice back in 2007 in Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière and again in 2012 wearing Alexander McQueen. You might be scratching your head at my wish since it is just a cape. I did not like the Burberry Spring 2017 RTW collection but the finale of 78 couture capes that Christopher Bailey created crafted some gorgeous pieces. I think that this gorgeous silver beaded feather inspired cape would be a beautiful moment paired with a custom high neck sleeveless Burberry white gown with a dramatic train for Cate. The look would definitely bode well with the Comme des Garçons/Rei Kawakubo theme and on Cate I could see this becoming an iconic look. A sleek updo, smokey eye, red lip, diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of silver sandals would just round this look out to perfection. I was surprised when I searched that I couldn’t find any pictures of Daria Strokous at any past Met Galas. Over the last year it seems like Daria has been all over the red carpets from the 2016 Cannes Film Festival to the 2017 Academy Awards and other red carpets in between just to wear gorgeous gowns, and I am not complaining. Most of Daria’s red carpet looks have come courtesy of Zuhair Murad so I decided to go with the brand for her to wear for the Met Gala, if she is lucky enough to receive an invitation. This bold red Zuhair Murad Spring 2017 Couture gown which features ruffles, bold shoulders, sexy split, and bold embellishments would be totally glamorous on Daria for the Met Gala. As I said yesterday it isn’t very often that Zuhair Murad is worn on the Met Gala red carpet, but this look would fit right in with this years theme. A sleek updo, diamond drop earrings, a lined eye, red lip, and a pair of red sandals would ensure that this is a gorgeous red carpet moment. I was surprised when I did my research that Gwen Stefani has only been a guest at the Met Gala twice. One year she wore a design from her L.A.M.B. label and the other she wore both Maison Margiela and Versace. I would love it if Gwen hit the red carpet this year and since she is supposedly getting ready to go on tour I wouldn’t be surprised if she is on the guest list. It was an easy choice picking this amazing grey Vera Wang Fall 2017 RTW silk tulle gown which features a gold breastplate bodice for Gwen to wear because it is equal parts edgy, glamorous, and bold. The women that Vera has dressed in the past is incredibly varried from Rita Ora to Mila Kunis to Selena Gomez to Kerry Washington and I think that Gwen would be the perfect person to add to that list this year. Styling this look with a simple pair of gold sandals, a gold clutch, sleek ponytail, smokey eye, and a red lip would ensure that this is yet another gorgeous look for both Gwen and for Vera. It wasn’t until I Googled all of the times that Kerry Washington has been a guest on the Met Gala red carpet did I realize how many of her past looks I haven’t liked. Her Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, and Prada gowns were all terrible but her Thakoon and Escada looks were gorgeous. I hope that if the Scandal star will deliver something really glamorous on the red carpet if she gets an invitation this year (which I find extremely likely.) What I realized is that Kerry seemed to have her best looks when she wasn’t wearing the “top labels,” so I went with a little more obscure of a choice. I want Kerry to wear a modified version of this black David Koma Fall 2016 RTW embellished organza midi dress which features a v-neck and illusion wrap style silhouette. I would have this midi dress which is completely sheer lined and lengthened into a full length gown with a trailing train. David Koma has never had a red carpet moment at the Met Gala but I think that this would be a gorgeous look for Kerry. With her new stylist I have no idea what she will wear anymore. Selena Gomez is currently the face of Coach so it would surprise me if she shows up at this years Met Gala wearing anything other than the American sportswear and leatherwear designer this year. Coach has dressed some of the coolest rising stars with Chloe Grace Moretz (twice,) Cynthia Erivo, Dree Hemingway, and Tavi Gevinson all rocking the brand over the last two years. The custom gowns are my favorites of the past looks from Coach and I would love to see Selena hit the red carpet wearing a custom gown version of this oxblood leather fringe and floral chiffon dress from the Coach 1941 Pre-Fall 2017 collection turned into a gorgeous gown. This would totally fit with the theme of this years gala and I think that Selena would look so gorgeous wearing this tough yet romantic look on the red carpet. This is not a look that I would have a train with. I think that this gown would be dramatic enough on it’s own. A chic updo, smokey eye, oxblood lip, a black clutch, and a pair of black peep toe pumps would ensure that this is one of Selena’s best red carpet moments ever.

The 2017 Met Gala will take place on Monday May 1, 2017. I will be posting the red carpet looks in real time on my fashion ID Instagram account What They Are Wearing. Please follow along and join me!
