2017 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 3

Kicking off today I am just going to be plugging along with my myriad of wishes for the 2017 Met Gala red carpet. The Met Gala is the biggest red carpet of the year and sees the top performers across all platforms like film, television, music, art, politics, business, and society converge on the steps of the museum to raise money for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. At $30,000 a seat this gala raises the funds to support the entire operating budget of the Costume Institute for the entire year. Last year Alessandra Ambrosio took to the Met Gala red carpet as part of the #BalmainArmy in a silver knotted rope gown. That was not much of a surprise as she had been the face of Balmain and wearing the label for most of her red carpet appearances. So far this year Alessandra has been all about wearing Ralph & Russo after donning the labels finale wedding gown at the Spring 2017 Couture presentation. With that in mind I went back to the label to pick a gorgeous gown for her to wear for this years Met Gala. This uber sexy and glamorous red chiffon gown from the Ralph & Russo Spring 2017 Couture strapless gown which features a sweetheart neckline, ruffled bustier, sheer corseted details, a flowing skirt, and a sexy thigh high split would be my ultimate choice. The silhouette loosely reminds me of the satin gown that Alessandra wore for the Vanity Fair party earlier this year, but this is a much softer more flirty version. Styling the look with a sleek updo, dazzling diamond drop earrings, a statement diamond cuff, a red clutch, and a pair of simple red satin sandals would really make this another epic red carpet moment for the Victoria’s Secret model.Dakota Fanning is not usually a favorite of mine when it comes to her red carpet style. Most of the time I find that her lack of hair and makeup ruins gorgeous couture creations and it often makes me really sad. Dakota is no stranger to the Met Gala red carpet having been a guest of Louis Vuitton, Nina Ricci, Valentino and Rodarte in previous years. Sadly none of those of those looks have been particularly good. I am hoping that this year if Dakota steps out that she will bring the magic that sometimes shows through. I went back to Rodarte, who dressed Dakota in 2013, for the gown I want to see her wear this year. This very simplistic in comparison to standard Met Gala gowns baby pink and white guipure lace strapless gown which features pearl embroidery and sheer yoke from the Rodarte Fall 2017 RTW collection would be gorgeous on Dakota. I think that we could see Dakota stand tall on the red carpet wearing this gown which I think she would be gorgeous wearing. I personally j’adore the pink ruffled leather gloves the the gown was paired with in the lookbook and think that they just enhance the look. Unfortunately I can’t really picture Dakota wearing them. Maybe if the Mulleavy sisters (the Rodarte designers) turned them more into a detached sleeve instead of a full glove that Dakota would wear them. Adding a sleek updo, nude makeup, a pair of gold set diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of nude Prada peep toe satin sandals would really ensure that this is Dakota’s best Met Gala look yet. Gabrielle Union has the potential to wear something gorgeous on the red carpet come the Met Gala if she is invited this year. Usually Gabrielle walks the red carpet with her hubby NBA star Dwayne Wade and I am intrigued to see what she is going bring to the red carpet this year. A good bet would be that Gabrielle would wear a custom Prada ensemble (like she did back in 2014) but that will be something purely custom and not runway inspired so I decided to go with another of her favorite designers for this years gala. I would love it if Gabrielle hit the Met Gala red carpet wearing this silver and gold Naeem Khan Fall 2017 RTW pleated silk gown which gown features a halter neckline and loose fit. The gown is totally disco chic and I think would definitely be a gorgeous moment for her. We are used to seeing Gabrielle wearing more lady like silhouette so this loose fun gown would be a perfect choice to show a little more variety in Gabrielle’s style. Kate Upton is another who is no stranger to attending the Met Gala having attended wearing DVF, Topshop, Michael Kors, and Dolce & Gabbana in past years. It was reported that her first year that she called Anna Wintour personally and asked for an invitation and was given the upped price of $30,000 for her seat, and she has been a figure at the gala pretty much every year since. Of all of her past looks it was just her custom one sleeved silver laurex Topshop gown last year that I really loved. Kate is not usually one of my favorite ladies on the red carpet, but she definitely has upped her game over the last year. For this years Met Gala I went back to Michael Kors for Kate’s gown. I want to see Kate step out in a gown version of this gold sleeveless gown from the Michael Kors Pre-Fall 2017 collection which features loose beaded fringe. I think that this dressed turned into a gown with it’s flared hem and a dramatic train would for sure be a gorgeous moment for Kate. At the Met with that grand red carpet swathed staircase is one of those places that a gown has to be dramatic both coming and going, and I think that with the modifications that I made that this would be a perfect look. Naomi Watts has been at a lot of Met Gala’s. Naomi’s first gala was back before they stared covering the steps with a red carpet in 2004 when she wore Marc Jacobs. Since then Naomi has been the guest of Stella McCartney (twice,) Mugler, Givenchy, and most recently Burberry. I have loved almost all of her past Met Gala gowns and I am hoping that she will deliver another major moment this year. While I decided not to go with a gown with a dramatic train I still think that this navy velvet Lanvin Pre-Fall 2017 tea length gown which features a strapless neckline, leather accents, and feather embellished crystal brooches would be a truly glamorous moment. Naomi isn’t usually one who wears gowns with really dramatic trains so I think that this type of classic, yet bold look is perfect for her to wear. With a look like this the styling has to be perfection. To really make this look perfect I would add a red lip, lined eye, old Hollywood waves, a navy clutch, and a pair of silver crystal embellished sandals. If invited this would be the first time that Sara Sampaio has attended a Met Gala. The sexy model has been earning her red carpet credibility, most recently wearing a gorgeous custom Ralph & Russo Couture gown for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Most of the time we see a lot of the faces we saw at Vanity Fair on the red carpet at the Met Gala, so that bodes well. I would honestly like to see Sara be taken under the wing of one of the high street brands like Topshop or H&M for this years red carpet. When you think of those labels you don’t think of couture red carpet looks, but they have had some major moments in the past. Last year Topshop dressed a host of “it” models including Stella Maxwell, Taylor Hill, Kate Upton, Maryna Linchuk, and Sophia Richie and H&M dressed Hailee Steinfeld, Ciara, Amber Valletta, and Jennifer Hudson. I think that either fast fashion retailer would be a good fit, but those gowns are highly customized. So I went to one of the brands that Sara has worn a few times in the past, Zuhair Murad. For the most part we don’t see a whole lot of Zuhair Murad on the red carpet at the Met Gala, but I think that this black sheer gown with a pointed sweetheart neckline and red firework burst embellishments from the Zuhair Murad Spring 2017 Couture collection would be a great choice. I think that it fit’s the codes of the Comme des Garçons delves into so I think that it is a perfect gown for this years Met Gala.

The 2017 Met Gala will take place on Monday May 1, 2017. I will be posting the red carpet looks in real time on my fashion ID Instagram account What They Are Wearing. Please follow along and join me!
