2017 Met Gala Red Carpet Wish List Part 1

Well the time of year has come again. For the next nine days I will be posting 2 wish lists a day for this years Met Gala, that is a total of 108 wishes over that time span. I am intrigued to see what the stars will be bringing to the red carpet with the theme of this years exhibit guiding them. We have grown really accustom to Anna Wintour laying out a specific dress code with the red carpets, but this year there have been zero reports about what the editor-in-chief of Vogue and Met Gala host is expecting her guests to wear on the red carpet. This years exhibit theme is “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons” and I just have no idea what the carpet will bring. One think I think is pretty sure to happen is that Anna will wear Chanel Couture, which has become a tradition over the past 10 years. Only one time in that span of time has Anna worn a label other than Chanel and that was when the Met honored Prada and Schiaparelli where she wore a custom Prada ensemble. I went to the Chanel Spring 2017 Couture collection to find the perfect look for Anna to wear on the red carpet. There were a few looks that I can picture Anna wearing, but I would love to see her step out for this years Met Gala wearing this silver satin high neck column gown which features a gathered ribbon belt, and gorgeous couture beading on the neck and shoulders. This gown is gorgeous, and I think that Anna would really make heads turn in this creation. Usually we see Anna wearing heavily embellished gowns for the Met Gala, and formal events in general, so this silky gown is a little out of her wheelhouse. This gown is perfection and I know that she will make it work to perfection. Her standard necklaces would look very out of place with this look so I would opt for Anna to wear just a simple pair of diamond cluster earrings adding a pair of silver Manolo Blhanik sandals and her signature Chanel sunglasses this will be a gorgeous moment for Anna, maybe one of her best looks ever. Bella Hadid will definitely be on the red carpet at the Met Gala on Monday May 1, 2017 and is one of the models that I am most looking forward to seeing. Bella has some of the most gorgeous red carpet style and always is uber glamorous when she steps out. I would have no doubt that will be the case when she steps out for the Met. For the last two year Bella has been bold in black, in Topshop in 2015 and Givenchy in 2016, and I bet that is again the case this year. One of the codes of the Comme des Garçons label that I think we may see a bit of is Rei Kawakubo’s generous use of black. I think that this black Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2017 Couture sheer embroidered tulle one shoulder gown would be perfection on Bella. The gown is dark, romantic, edgy, and sexy all rolled into a modern take on the 80’s and done so in such a chic way. I don’t think many would have the confidence to pull this look off, but I think that Bella’s subtle sex appeal would just turn this into a really uber sexy yet highly glamorous moment. I am not going to go full theme with a lot of my wishes this year instead opting for bold looks for stars to wear on this red carpet. This is the first time in several years that the style of what the stars will wear on the red carpet has been up in the air. Diane Kruger is a Met Gala regular. We have seen her wear Chanel Couture, BOSS, Jason Wu, Prada, Alberta Ferretti, and Calvin Klein. With such a varried past it wouldn’t surprise me to see Diane wearing another new label on the red carpet. I fell in love with this citrine yellow Oscar de la Renta Fall 2017 RTW cocktail dress which features a strapless neckline, a fitted Vivienne Westwood like bodice, and a draped asymmetrical hem and I was wondering who the perfect person to wear this design would be and when I was looking for the perfect look for Diane to wear for this red carpet it just clicked. The look is classic and very femme fatale in style, but the color really makes it visually striking and modern. The dress might not be with theme, but definitely something we would see on the Met Gala red carpet. I think going full Hollywood with the styling including Veronica Lake waves, a bold red lip, strappy gold sandals, and a gold clutch would make this look total perfection head to toe. Gisele Bundchen and husband Tom Brady are gala co-chairs this year so we can expect the Brazilian supermodel and her star quarterback hubby will be in attendance at this years gala after skipping out last year. It has been a really long time since I have gotten excited about anything that Gisele has worn on the red carpet and I am hoping that with such a prominent role in this years event that she will deliver something absolutely major. As I watch the spring couture shows I am always on the lookout for the perfect Met Gala, and this ombre purple Atelier Versace Spring 2017 Couture gown was one of those looks that I mentally reserved this gown for the Met red carpet. Originally I had pictured Bella Hadid wearing this gown, but when Gisele was announced as a co-chair my thoughts changed. The gown is definitely a bold choice with so many details one could get lost, but I think that Gisele would really make this gown come to life on the red carpet. Letting the gown be the star of the look with a sleek bun updo, a smokey eye, and a strappy black sandal (the look book shoes are perfect) would make this one of Gisele’s best red carpet moments ever.I was looking back at Katy Perry’s past Met Gala red carpet looks, and there wasn’t really any of them that I was ever really excited about. I am interested to see what Katy will bring to the red carpet this year as she is joining Anna Wintour on the host committee of this years gala. If anyone is going to be on theme it is going to be our celebrity hostess and I am wondering if she will actually wear a design made for her from the Comme des Garçons label. I was never a fan of Comme as a fashion brand (though the clothes are pure artistry) so I decided not to pick a look from the label for Katy to wear, or anyone really. I did pick this black patent jacquard Zac Posen Fall 2017 RTW dress which features a strapless neckline, a voluminous A-line skirt for Katy to wear. Now the midi length from the lookbook could be something edgy, but I think that Katy as a co-host will go for something bold and dramatic. I think that this dress turned into a full ball gown with a dramatic train would be something absolutely amazing. The gown holds true to the Comme des Garçons codes, but does so in a refined very dramatic, Hollywood glamour type of way. The gown would be total perfection with edgy diamond earcuffs, a bold lined eye, a red lip, black nails, and a pair of black strappy sandals adding the finishing touches to this look. Rounding out this first wish (of 18) is fashions newest “it” girl Ruth Negga. Before most knew who she was, before she had her Academy Award nomination Anna Wintour chose Ruth to be the cover star of the January issue of Vogue. I think that, along with her major red carpet track record this year, will ensure that Ruth is issued a ticket to this years Met Gala. I would totally imagine that Ruth will be a guest of Pierpaolo Piccioli and the Valentino label. Having worn several Valentino looks (including for the Academy Awards,) Ruth’s relationship with the label has been magic. I think that for the Met Gala that this rose pink ruffled gown from the Valentino Spring 2017 Couture collection which features a loose fit and a plunging neckline would be absolutely gorgeous for Ruth. There is no overlap between any of the Comme des Garçons codes, and honestly Valentino in general doesn’t really overlap with those codes either, in this gown. So with that in mind I say just go for the dramatic, flirty, and feminine gown.

The 2017 Met Gala will take place on Monday May 1, 2017. I will be posting the red carpet looks in real time on my fashion ID Instagram account What They Are Wearing. Please follow along and join me!
