In the race to the Oscars we have finally started to land on wishes for Oscar week events! I am really excited at this year’s crop of nominees for every red carpet as the stars have really been bringing it and I am sure that in the lead up to the Academy Awards that everyone will be on top form. Emma Stone is nominated for Best Actress (and is the current front runner) at the Oscars and has definitely been making the rounds to support everyone nominated in all aspects for La La Land. Having been a big source of the inspiration for her costumes in La La Land I could definitely see Emma stepping out to support the films costume designer Mary Zophres who is nominated for Excellence in Contemporary Film at the 2017 Costume Designers Guild Awards. Compared to normal Emma has been working a more subdued look on the red carpet, while I get that things that are too bold aren’t the best choice when you are the expected winner, Emma hasn’t even been taking risks for small carpets. I went with a really edgy and bold choice for Emma to wear for the CDG Awards red carpet with this ruffled Viktor & Rolf Spring 2017 Couture multicolored midi length cocktail dress which is crafted using the remains of other vintage confections. Viktor & Rolf designs are always a risk on the red carpet and it would really take someone with a true red carpet winning streak to really make this look work and Emma has the chops to pull it off. Pairing this dress with a chic romantic bun, smokey eye, and a pair of red sandals would make it a total wow for Emma in the lead up to the Oscars.Janelle Monae has been one off the biggest sartorial stars of awards season. The R&B star turned SAG Award winning actress might stick to a box of black and white on the red carpet, but her looks are never boring. That is why out of all the cast of Hidden Figures that Janelle is the one that I am most hoping will step out on the Costume Designers Guild Awards to support the films nominated costume designer Renee Ehrlich Kalfus. I think that this will be the one Oscar week event that we could see Janelle hit the red carpet wearing pants and so that is why I picked this black Elie Saab Pre-Fall 2017 jumpsuit which features a rounded neckline, intricate beading on bodice, and full length cape like bell style sleeves. I think that this classic yet dramatic look on Janelle would be another win for her. While sometimes I do wish that Janelle would wear some bold color on the red carpet, this jumpsuit just perfect for her style and it would be a great red carpet moment for her. A pair of black pumps, a black Elie Saab embellished clutch, a embellished bun hairstyle, diamond cluster earrings, and a red lip would make this another gorgeous look for Janelle on the road to the Oscars. Lily Collins is following the great Cate Blanchett as the recipient of the LACOSTE Spotlight Award which honors an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design. Having been in a few films that have had iconic costume moments like Mirror, Mirror and Rules Don’t Apply the honor makes a lot of sense. Lily wears clothes so incredibly well and knows all the ways to really make something pop even more than it already does on the runway. Since she is the big honoree of the night I wanted to pick a gown worthy of this award. This silver and white Chanel Spring 2017 Couture fully sequined column gown which features a plunging neckline, belted waistline, and a pouf of white feathers at the knee would be absolutely AMAZING on Lily. The gown is a bold disco like statement and I know that Lily could totally make it work, though the list of people that could is very small. The key to this look being a total success is very simple styling. I would add a pair of silver sequin Gianvito Rossi ‘Portofino’ sandals, a sleek hairstyle like the runways sleek bun, a bold red lip, and a pair of diamond cluster earrings to really make this loom perfection. Mandy Moore has been the breakout style star of the television stars this awards season after really delivering a host of really unexpected looks on the red carpets this year so far. I am really excited to see what she is going to be rocking on the Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet where she will be in attendance as this years hostess with the mostess. Mandy has the potential to grab something hot off the runways of New York Fashion Week, maybe something from Monique Lhuillier, Reem Acra, Marchesa, or Naeem Khan but since these shows have yet to happen yet I decided to go with something gorgeous from the Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2017 collection. This teal floral jacquard gown which features a inverted V neckline, a strapless silhouette, and allover floral details is classic and dramatic, which I think are the perfect choices for one to make for a Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet moment. A sleek low bun, lined eye, red lip, and a pair of black sandals would add the perfect finishing touches. Finally I have a wish for Meryl Streep who has been killing her fashion choices this year. Meryl and stylist Micaela Erlanger have been cooking up amazing confections and I am hoping that for Meryl’s Costume Designers Guild Awards red carpet appearance that the magic will continue. Meryl will receive the Distinguished Collaborator Award honors individuals who demonstrate unwavering support of Costume Design and creative partnerships with costume designers at this years award and it will be very well earned. With so many films that require amazing costumes including her most recent Florence Foster Jenkins who’s costume designer Consolata Boyle is nominated for Excellence in Period Film Meryl is known for being a collaborator on all aspects of her performance to ensure that the feel if just right for the character and the film. To receive this honor I would love to see Meryl go for bold color. We don’t usually see Meryl wear a lot of bold color, save for a bold blue here or a regal red there, but I think that this shocking pink and lipstick red Schiaparelli Spring 2017 Couture bias draped midi gown would be gorgeous. If you can’t take a risk on the red carpet at the Costume Designer’s Guild Awards, where can you. I would finish this look with a pair red peep toe satin pumps, a loose updo, defined eye, and light pink lip to really make this another red carpet win for Meryl.
The 2017 Costume Designers Guild Award will kick off the Oscar week events on Monday February 20, 2017.
