After several seasons of more museum art pieces than wearable art Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren sent a collection down the Paris Haute Couture runways that showed the brands red carpet potential. While the over the top dramatic ruffles, avant garde patchwork styles, flamenco meets Marie Antoinette, meets Russian grandeur still is quite out there I think that there are some brave souls that have the potential to make them work on the red carpet. all of these looks are pieced together vintage pieces that dated all the way back to the 1940’s in the style of Kintsugi (the Japanese practice of repairing pottery that highlights the cracks.) The collection, entitled Boulevard of Broken Dreams, was meant to pull parallels to the brokenness of the world right now in that the broken can be repaired and beautiful again, but we also need to remember that things were broken in the first place. Almost like a phoenix rising from the ashes, which the clothed pieced together to create this collection definitely embody. Three of the looks are currently for sale on the Viktor & Rolf online concept store, running for roughly $25,000 USD each. My favorite look was the cocktail length hybrid dress which is one side brocade sheath dress one side layered tulle 50’s style skirt and I am praying that the gorgeous Elle Fanning wears it on the red carpet (maybe for the Met Gala.)Since these looks are really edgy I don’t think that we are going to see many of them on the red carpet, but that doesn’t stop me from dreaming. Some of the other people that I think would really make this collection come to life, and be able to not have the looks wear them, include Cate Blanchett, Rose McGowan, Naomie Harris, Iggy Azalea, Emma Stone, Joan Small, Karolina Kurkova, Felicity Jones, Rita Ora, Miley Cyrus, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway, Zhang Ziyi, Sonam Kapoor, Fan Bingbing, Solange Knowles, Florence Welch, Jessica Chastain, Amber Heard, Eva Longoria, Chloe Sevingy, Natasha Poly, Diane Kruger, Marion Cotillard, Rihanna, Julianne Moore, Tilda Swinton, Gwen Stefani, and Lady Gaga. You can see all my favorite looks from the Spring/Summer 2017 Couture collections, and my immediate wishes of who I want to see wearing them on my Pinterest page.
