Runway Report: Chanel Spring 2017 Couture

runway-report-chanel-spring-2017-couture-1Yesterday Karl Lagerfeld showed his Spring 2017 Couture collection for Chanel at the Grand Palais in Paris. From the set you could tell that disco was going to play a major part in the collection since the stage seemed to liken itself to the inside of a disco ball. This could have gone very badly, but Karl delivered one of the best Chanel Couture collections ever. This show had to be one of my favorites, with almost every look deserving of a red carpet moment. With what seemed to be a mix of inspiration between Princess Grace and Jackie Kennedy and Diana Ross and Bianca Jagger, this collection really delivered. For anyone who says that Karl is no longer innovative or modern needs to take a step back. Starting with pastel embellished tweed suits and finishing with beautiful bead, sequin, and feather embellished gowns (and of course a small selection of the classic Chanel little black dress) there is a look for every woman in this collection and I found myself going oooo so and so would look great in that and oooo so and so would look amazing in this for almost every single look in this collection. The show ended with the traditional Chanel ‘La Marie’ bride, this season modeled by face of Chanel No. 5 L’Eau Lily Rose Depp (as her mother Vanessa Paradis was perched front row,) and was a gorgeous pink confection that I think would still make for a gorgeous red carpet moment despite being pigeonholed as a bridal look. It was seriously hard to pick a favorite look from this collection since there were so many amazing moments, but I think that the grey gown which features a halter vest style bodice and a tiered column skirt is the look that I was so taken with. This gown is so classic, but also very modern at the same time and I would adore seeing Naomi Watts walking a red carpet wearing this creation. runway-report-chanel-spring-2017-couture-2 runway-report-chanel-spring-2017-couture-3With such a wide variety of looks I have a wide variety of women that I would kill to see wearing this collection on the red carpet.
