Runway Report: Alexis Mabille Spring 2017 Couture

runway-report-alexis-mabille-spring-2017-couture-1On the press kit for the Alexis Mabille Spring 2017 Couture the inspiration left down to one quote. “I always say a kiss on the hand might feel very good, but a diamond tiara lasts forever.” As quoted by Marilyn Monroe’s iconic character Lorelei Lee in the classic film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Now many would take that as a springboard for a collection bedazzled to the extreme, but not Alexis. He took inspiration from the costumes. The looks from this collection would not have looked out of place on the backs of Marilyn and Jane Russell as they took their transatlantic journey in the film. I am now really intrigued to see who will bring this collection to the red carpet over the next couple of months. The rich red oxblood bustier sheath gown with flounces of organza caught by strands of diamonds was my favorite piece in the collection and I would really adore seeing Lady Gaga wearing it on the red carpet. These looks are surely destined more for European red carpets since the looks are still a little more avant garde than most main stream American red carpets would allow. runway-report-alexis-mabille-spring-2017-couture-2With the idea of this collection destined for the red carpets of Europe (Cannes undoubtedly) some of the stars that I think would really bring this collection to life include Gigi Hadid, Chanel Iman, Tilda Swinton, Ashley Greene, Elle Fanning, Eva Herzigova, Diane Kruger, Zoe Saldana, Natasha Poly, Karolina Kurkova, Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Berenice Bejo, Elizabeth Banks and Anne Hathaway.runway-report-alexis-mabille-spring-2017-couture-3You can see all my favorite looks from the Spring/Summer 2017 Couture collections, and my immediate wishes of who I want to see wearing them on my Pinterest page.
