With all the shake ups in the realm of high fashion no other news has come as shocking as Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci is purportedly being courted by Donatella Versace to make a move over to the Versace brand. I honestly thought that Tisci with Givenchy was going to be like Lagerfeld and Chanel, a life long romance. I am hoping that this just turns out to be a rumor and Givenchy doesn’t turn into several other houses that have been run amuck in shakeups of creative talent. On Friday, while a certain someone was being inaugurated as President of the United States, I was able to take a break from America but was transported back to the ages of Victoriana headed west ward. Surprisingly I really loved thee ruffled plaid chiffon looks embellished with crystals. Usually I would see something like these and scoff at them for being too costume-y but I think that Riccardo really elevated them to a very wearable place. Outside of those looks everything, except the pale pink finale dress, was black. I can get very bored with black, but in a small 13 look collection they worked quite well. There is a tie for my favorite looks from the collection (as I really a huge fan) between the black beaded fringe dress, the red/pink plaid, and the pale pink gown complete with crystal and feather embellishments (also honorable mention to the black leather fringe coat worn by Joan Smalls that didn’t make a photo cut.) Out of those looks it is probably the pale pink gown which I most want to see have a red carpet moment and I think that someone like Lady Gaga or Kirsten Dunst would really turn this look into something major on the red carpet. The couture looks presented on the Givenchy runway haven’t been worn on the red carpet as much as I would have expected, but there are a bevy of potential out of these looks. Stars that I would love to see bring this collection to life on the red carpet include Beyonce, Rita Ora, Nicole Kidman, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Ciara, Alicia Keys, Kylie Minogue, Karlie Kloss, Chanel Iman, Joan Smalls, Bella Hadid, Margot Robbie, Brie Larson, Diane Kruger, Naomi Campbell, Zendaya, FKA Twigs, Lupita Nyong’o, Hailee Steinfeld, and Sienna Miller.
