I don’t know what the problem has been for me, but for some reason I have just been not really been connecting to my SAG Awards wishes. This isn’t something that usually happens, the SAG red carpet is usually really good, but I think the memories of how bad last year’s red carpet was is keeping me from getting too excited. I am trying to gear up for next Sunday’s big red carpet. The ladies of television comedy can falter back and forth on being best and worst dressed but I think that this years crop had a lot of potential to really deliver on the red carpet. Ellie Kemper is nominated for her Netflix series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and I am excited to see what she is going to bring to the red carpet. Ellie never is one to shy away from bold color or print on the red carpet, her Peter Pilotto gown at last years SAG Awards was among the better looks of the night. When she steps out at this years SAG Awards I would love to see her go for this nude Jason Wu Spring 2017 RTW sleeveless high low gown which features bright neon floral embroidery. This gown is very young, in fact Hailee Steinfeld wore the other runway version of this gown, but I think that Ellie would look very chic and sophisticated wearing it on the red carpet. Adding a pair of neon yellow sandals, chic bob, and a light pink lip will ensure that this is a gorgeous look on Ellie. Jane Fonda went from being one of my absolute favorite women on the red carpet to being someone I could honestly care less about. I am hoping that Jane will be back on top of her game when she steps out on the SAG Awards red carpet to celebrate her nomination for Grace & Frankie and to present the Life Achievement Award to Lily Tomlin with Dolly Parton. I think that this black long sleeve Armani Prive Fall 2016 Couture velvet gown which features a plunging neckline and a crystal rope detail from the neckline to the floor down the front would be amazing on Jane. Even at 79 Jane knows how to work some sexy looks on the red carpet (Versace is still one of her favorite brands) and this look is definitely sexy. I would imagine that Jane would have the neckline of this gown modified a little bit to be a little more modest. I would love to see Jane pair this gown with a red lip, diamond and sapphire Chopard earrings, a pair of black Christian Louboutin pumps, and a diamond and sapphire Chopard statement cocktail ring to really make this an absolutely amazing red carpet moment. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s red carpet return at the Golden Globe Awards was VERY lack luster to me. I am really not into the basic pageant style dress on Julia, as that just isn’t her personality. For the SAG Awards, where she is nominated for her role on VEEP, I would love to see Julia wearing this gorgeous white and black Oscar de la Renta Spring 2017 RTW silk gown which features pleated detailing, a wrapped fabric construction on the strapless styled bodice, and an asymmetrical hemline would be perfect. The SAG Awards are a more relaxed “casual” evening where the actors celebrate each other and this gown would be perfect for that setting. A simple pair of black sandals, diamond drop earrings, simple makeup, and a black clutch would make up for a lackluster red carpet moment from Julia. Rounding out today’s SAG Awards wish list is Orange is the New Black’s star Uzo Aduba, whom I am really excited to see on the red carpet. It has been a while since Uzo has really given me a really memorable red carpet moment and I think that the SAG Awards are the perfect place for her to really shine again. Uzo has never had a couture moment on the red carpet and what better place than a major awards show red carpet to deliver a couture look. This dark green Georges Hobeika Fall 2016 Couture sleeveless ball gown which features gorgeous light floral embroideries would be absolutely gorgeous on Uzo. The dark green color of this gown would be perfection against Uzo’s skin tone and while its silhouette would give her a gorgeous princess moment. A loose (but pulled back) bun, smokey eye, pink lip, diamond cluster earrings, and a pair of gold sandals would add the perfect finishing touches to this look.
I will be live tweeting the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet on Sunday January 29, 2016 starting at 6PM, feel free to follow and join me for fashion ids and fun snark.
