The Screen Actors Guild Awards are just 9 days out and I am really excited to see what the stars are going to bring to the red carpet. Last year’s red carpet (save for Brie Larson in Atelier Versace and Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton) left a lot to be desired. This year there are quite a few strong fashion players and up and coming faces nominated so I am hoping that the carpet will be back in full force. Claire Foy won a Golden Globe for her performance in The Crown, which has also earned her a SAG nomination. I went back and forth on liking Claire’s custom Erdem gown at the Globes, and ultimately it was a pretty dress but her hair and makeup just didn’t hold up to the glamour of the gown. I am hoping that Claire will redeem herself at the SAG Awards because I know her potential could have her on a top 10 list. I went with this very pretty ice blue Temperley London Pre-Fall 2017 ‘Water Lily’ gown which features a sheath silhouette with a jewel neckline and gorgeous sequined detailing. While most of the time I find that Temperley London is more of a b-list label, but when the a-list calls it becomes magic. I want that magic to work with Claire on the SAG red carpet. Finishing this look with a sleek updo, dainty diamond drop earrings, and a pair of silver Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle Follies’ glitter leather pumps, and soft makeup would really ensure that Claire puts herself back on the best dressed lists. Millie Bobby Brown, Eleven from Stranger Things, has burst onto the scene. With her RED Valentino dress at last years Emmy Awards to her custom Jenny Packham gown at the Golden Globe Awards this year Millie is definitely one to keep our eyes on. When it comes to red carpet dressing we can force kids to grow up too fast, and I don’t want to see that happen with Millie. While wearing a full length gown can be seen as very “grown-up” I think that this periwinkle blue ZAC Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2017 a-line ombre gown which features ribbon straps is perfect for the 12 year, going on 13, actress to wear for her first Screen Actors Guild Awards nomination and red carpet. I am not quick to running anyone to being too grown up and I hope that Millie takes a page out of Kiernan Shipka’s red carpet book and learns how to have fun while not growing up too fast. I would just add sleek side parted hair, fresh face barely there makeup, and a pair of gunmetal grey Jimmy Choo ‘Grace’ crystal-embellished metallic leather ballet flats would finish this look to perfection for a 12 year old on the SAG Awards red carpet. Robin Wright hasn’t been on a red carpet in a long time. At the 2016 Emmy Awards she barely made an appearance in her Reem Acra gown. I am hoping that with the release of season five of House of Cards set to be released on Netflix on Tuesday I would imagine that the SAG Awards would be just another stop for Robin to keep up appearances and promote the show. My favorite of Robin’s red carpet looks in the past have come thanks to more modern minimalistic looks and I think that the SAG Awards red carpet is the perfect place for that style to really shine. I would love to see Robin hit the red carpet next Sunday wearing this white one shoulder Derek Lam Spring 2017 RTW gown which features a sky high split layered over a pair of black trousers. I think that Robin has the presence to really wear this look which could come across as overwhelming on many. The key to this look is all going to be keeping the styling very simple. That is why I just picked a pair of really simple black Aquazzura ‘Taylor Plateau’ pumps, sleek hair, and fresh face makeup to really round out this look. I was shocked when Thandie Newton didn’t win the Best Actress in a Television – Drama at the Golden Globe Awards, but she was one of the ones who really won the red carpet wearing custom Monse. Thandie can really rock some of the edgier red carpet moments and helps up and coming brands rise. For the SAG Awards I went with a very big risk. I have been loving this navy blue Esteban Cortazar Spring 2017 RTW gown which features a royal blue pleated metallic cape. Take away the cape and this is a pretty standard long sleeve pencil dress with a flounced hem and a few illusion panels, but the cape really brings new life to this look and what better red carpet to take a real risk on than the SAG Awards red carpet. While a gorgeous black strapless bustier floral embroidered Osman Pre-Fall 2017 collection might be a little more of a standard and expected red carpet moment, this Esteban Cortazar gown would be more of a perfect bold statement. Since this dress is such a statement I decided that the styling would be better kept really simple with a sleek bun and a pair of black Christian Louboutin ‘Salopatina’ patent leather trimmed, strass embellished mesh pumps would add the perfect finishing touches to this look on the red carpet.
I will be live tweeting the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet on Sunday January 29, 2016 starting at 6PM, feel free to follow and join me for fashion ids and fun snark.
