We are just moving forward with my 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards wishes. Unlike the Golden Globe Awards there are just two categories where actors are individually honored for their roles in motion pictures, in addition to the ensemble cast. The SAG Awards are the most accurate predictor of the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress award recipients. While we still have to wait until next Tuesday for the official nominations talented predictors are saying that this group of women nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture at the SAG Awards will be the same women nominated for the Oscar. Michelle Williams’s performance in Manchester by the Sea is what is garnering her nominations this awards season. I honestly have to say that I could care less at this point what Michelle wears. We all know it will be some sort of Louis Vuitton dress, but Michelle just doesn’t have the same appeal as Alicia Vikander does with the brand. Knowing that I guess I’ll pick another Louis Vuitton Spring 2017 RTW look to inspire Michelle’s SAG Awards red carpet look. This strapless black leather sweetheart neck cocktail dress could make for a gorgeous red carpet moment for Michelle if it was lengthened to a floor length gown. The SAG Awards are really the only awards show during awards season where one can get away with wearing a leather gown on the red carpet. This might be a little too edgy of a look for Michelle, but I think with a very classic style with the edgy twist would fit perfectly. A very sleek hairstyle, lined eyes, a red lip, diamond cluster earrings and a pair of simple black sandals would make this one of Michelle’s best LV looks ever. Naomie Harris is always one of my favorite women to see on the red carpet and with her Best Supporting Actress nominated performance in Moonlight taking her through awards season I am getting super excited. Now most people are probably scratching their heads at this ‘greenery’ (the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year) sequined Altuzarra Pre-Fall 2017 sleeveless cocktail dress as my wish for Naomie, but its the vision for the dress that really makes it. I would love to see Naomie take this midi dress and turn it into a floor length gown with a little bit of a flowing train behind it. Altuzarra does custom looks rarely, dressing just Evan Rachel Wood in a custom white tie tuxedo at the Golden Globe Awards, and I think that Naomie would be the perfect contender for a custom gown inspired by this dress. The very modern style of this gown would be absolute perfection on Naomie and the right statement for the SAG Awards red carpet. A sleek hairstyle, simple bronze-y makeup, a pair of gold cluster earrings, a gold clutch, and a pair of simple gold sandals would add the perfect finishing touches. You can just call this the post of looks that Thomas want’s edited. I don’t know if it is just that I am tired of seeing the same looks as I try to pick red carpet moments (Paris Couture and New York Fashion Week can’t come soon enough) or what but four out of the five looks that I picked for this set of wishes are looks I want to see modified. Nicole Kidman is nominated thanks to her performance in Lion and I have to say that she has not had a good year fashion wise so far. I am hoping that will start to change soon. For the SAG Awards red carpet I would love to see Nicole take this gold embroidered J. Mendel Fall 2016 Couture gown and modify it to be an off the shoulder strapless gown. While I love the statement making impact that the halter makes on this look, on Nicole I feel like that would just be one detail too much. The button detailed cape like sleeves are just enough to make this gown absolutely gorgeous and redeem Nicole for the really bad circus tent Gucci gown she wore for the SAG Awards last year. Where Nicole has gone wrong a lot recently has been her styling. This gown is such a visual statement that a romantic low bun, simple makeup, and a pair of black sandals would be all that Nicole needs to round out this look.Octavia Spencer has been switching up her labels on the red carpet, not wearing Tadashi Shoji on every red carpet like she used to. I can’t believe that I am saying it, but I am kinda missing those days since the two have had such a great partnership in the past. I am holding out hope that on the SAG Awards red carpet that Octavia will be back on top form. I decided to give a little glamour to Octavia for the SAG’s via this black lace Monique Lhuillier Spring 2017 RTW peplum gown which features a lace embroidered deep v-neckline, embellishment at the bodice, and a layered full tulle skirt. Now it wouldn’t be a look on this wish list if I didn’t have some sort of modification to make to it. I would have this gown modified to have a full lace back and cap sleeves as I know Octavia likes to keep a little more covered than this gown is on the runway. The perfect finishing touches to this look would include chic curly updo, black pumps, diamond drop earrings, red lip, and a black clutch. Rounding out this set of wishes is the gorgeous Viola Davis, who was the only one I could find a dress that I didn’t need/want to modify for. Viola is the favorite to take home the bronze actor statue, and the Oscar, for her raw performance in Fences. I have been rooting for Viola to win an Oscar for a long while now and I am very excited to hopefully see her take home a trophy this year. For the SAG Awards I went with this gorgeous teal Zac Posen Pre-Fall 2017 a-line gown which features a straight across neckline, off the shoulder sleeves, and pleated detail on the skirt. This gown is classically glamorous with a bold color and I think that it would be a perfect choice for Viola on the SAG Awards red carpet. This gown is similar to another Zac Posen gown that Viola wore to the Oscars back in 2015 so I would wonder if this might be off the table. I sure hope not because this would be a beautiful moment on Viola. Rounded out with a wavy bob, red lip, smokey eye, vintage diamond drop earrings, and a pair of metallic grey sandals would really make this a perfect look for Viola and the SAG Awards red carpet.
I will be live tweeting the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet on Sunday January 29, 2016 starting at 6PM, feel free to follow and join me for fashion ids and fun snark.
