2016 Gotham Independent Film Awards Red Carpet Wish List Part 2

naomie-harris-2016-gotham-independent-film-awards-red-carpet-wish-list-1I am pleasantly surprised by how many stars have been nominated at the Gotham Independent Film Awards. The past few years there has been like one or two big names on the red carpet. That could be the case again this year, but the line up of names that are nominated get me excited that this could be another great red carpet before the end of the year. Naomie Harris is part of the cast of Moonlight who are being honored with the Special Jury Award for Ensemble Performance at the Gothams next Monday. Naomie has long been a favorite of mine on the red carpet and I am excited for the potential of her getting an awards season run. While yes we will be firmly on the road into winter next Monday I am still embracing light, tropical styles for Naomie for this red carpet. This gorgeous dusty rose pink Johanna Ortiz ‘Maicao’ sequin embellished cocktail dress which features an off-the-shoulder neckline, keyhole cutout, and a fluted shape I think would be absolutely gorgeous on Naomie. While it may not seem season appropriate I still think that Naomie would own this look on the red carpet. I would love to see Naomie finish this look with a sleek pulled back hairstyle (like Naomie wore for the Miss Golden Globe party and like the look was styled with in the lookbook,) a pair of rose gold sandals, and a rose gold clutch to really punctuate this look to perfection for the road to the Oscars.natalie-portman-2016-gotham-independent-film-awards-red-carpet-wish-list-1When it comes to the red carpet a pregnant Natalie Portman is either love or loathe for me. We saw Natalie wear her first fitted maternity look, via a black Dior pencil dress, at the Hollywood Film Awards. I only remember Natalie wearing one fitted look when she was pregnant with her first child, the white Azzaro gown she wore for the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards, so I don’t believe we will see very many (despite how great she looks wearing them.) For the Gothams, where Natalie is nominated for Best Actress thanks to her portrayal of Jacqueline Kennedy in Jackie, I would love to see her wearing this gorgeous Christian Dior Fall 2016 Couture cocktail dress which features a black and white sequined peplum style top and white tiered skirt. This chic look with a pair of simple black sandals, a red lip, black Dior clutch, diamond drop earrings, a lovely pulled back waves would be an amazing look for Natalie. ruth-negga-2016-gotham-independent-film-awards-red-carpet-wish-list-1And last but not least I have a wish for red carpet newcomer Ruth Negga, who is nominated for Best Actress for her work in Loving. Ruth came to my attention for the first time when she stepped out to promote this film at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where she wore Suno and Marc Jacobs. Since then Ruth has snagged, with the help of power stylist Karla Welch (Olivia Wilde, Karlie Kloss, Sarah Paulson,) some of the most coveted brands to wear on the red carpet. I am interested to see how Ruth’s style will grow when she is finally nominated for some of the major awards. For the Gotham Independent Film Awards next Monday I would love to see Ruth make a statement by showing up on the red carpet in this very visual Peter Pilotto Spring 2017 RTW taffeta jacquard macrame dress which features a ruffle hem, trumpet silhouette, embroidered patchwork, halter neckline and a cutout bodice. I think that this would look so chic on Ruth and a bold “I AM HERE” statement. Since the dress is such a statement I would just have Ruth pair this dress with a pair of simple black sandals, chic finger waves, and a nude lip to really ensure that this really the kick off to a major red carpet awards season.
