The 2016 Met Gala, “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” is going to prove to be an interesting red carpet. Traditionally French Haute Couture is crafted entirely by hand and mass produced ready-to-wear is created using machines. I feel like most of the stars that will grace this years red carpet will flock to the French couture houses to chose their red carpet ensembles. Recently Blake Lively announced that she was pregnant with child number two, it will be interesting to see how far along her bump is when she surely steps out on the Met Gala red carpet. Last year Blake skipped the Met because she was in China shooting a movie. With movies primed to release this year I expect that Blake will be back to owning the Met red carpet. Over her last two appearances Blake has worn custom Gucci Premiere looks, but has not been seen wearing the brand since former creative director Frida Giannini exited in 2014. I don’t expect to see Blake in Gucci this year but instead opting to wear something from her good friend Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. This silver Chanel Fall 2014 Couture gown which features a concrete bead blouse, sequined skirt, sexy split, and square neckline is one of the looks that I have been dying to see on a red carpet since it was first presented. With the concrete (yes like walls and driveways are built with) bodice of this gown being such a couture statement I hope that we finally have the perfect platform for someone to wear it on the red carpet, and I think that Blake is the perfect person to have the honor. A simple pair of silver Christian Louboutin ‘Paris Ete’ strappy sandals, chic old Hollywood waves, a light pink lip, and dazzling Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings would ensure that Blake has a killer return to the Met Gala red carpet. Elizabeth Banks is always on the Met Gala red carpet and she knows how to shut it down. It has been a hot minute since Elizabeth Banks has worn Atelier Versace on the red carpet and I am starving for the glamour that the two piece together when she does. For the Met Gala on Monday May 2, 2016, I would love to see Elizabeth take to the red carpet wearing this white draped Atelier Versace Spring 2016 Couture gown which features an asymmetrical bodice, a hip cutout, dramatic train and sexy split. When I think of Versace I think of a very sexy glamour and I think that this gown really showcases that signature, and Elizabeth knows how to work it. Keeping things very chic I would love to see Elizabeth pair this look with a dazzling pair of Chopard diamond drop earrings, a Chopard diamond cuff bracelet, a chic updo, red lip, a white and silver Edie Parker ‘Jean’ striped glittered acrylic clutch, and a pair of white Christian Louboutin ‘Degrastrass’ pointed toe pumps which features a glimmering gradient of clear crystals concentrated at the base of the toe and heel to ensure that glamour is all she is serving on the Met carpet. When it comes to her red carpet dressing Janelle Monae sticks to a very strict regimen of black and white, with a very rare addition of a little red. So that really limits the choices for her to wear on a red carpet outing. This black velvet Ralph Lauren Fall 2016 RTW which features white pleated ruffles on the neck and wrists would be gorgeous on Janelle. On most under the age of 60 this look would be quite aging but I think that Janelle has the certain type of elegance that would make this a chic and sophisticated red carpet moment for her. A black and white Edie Parker ‘Jean’ zebra acrylic clutch, black Paul Andrew ‘Oralie’ floral patter lacquer heel strappy sandals, a pair of diamond cluster earrings would round out this chic and elegant red carpet moment. Kiernan Shipka has never walked the Met Gala red carpet but I think she has finally hit the level of fashionista-ness to finally acquire an invitation. For her first Met Gala red carpet I would love to see Kiernan hit the red carpet in this black and white Victoria Beckham Fall 2016 RTW strapless bustier cocktail dress with a patchwork houndstooth a-line skirt. Victoria Beckham has never designed a gown with a full skirt but if this dress was modified to be a full length gown then I think I would really die. A chic pair of black sandals, a vintage inspired hairstyle, and a pink lip would ensure that Kiernan has a gorgeous Met Gala red carpet ensemble. I am still shocked that Olga Kurylenko has never graced the red carpet at the Met Gala. The French actress has been taken by major fashion brands such as Dior, Ralph & Russo, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and more. With all these friends in high places I think it is about time that she finally got a moment on the Met Gala red carpet. I was a member of the unpopular opinion of liking the Lanvin Fall 2016 RTW collection, and while whomever attends the Met Gala as a guest of Lanvin will most likely wear a custom gown by new creative director Bouchra Jarrar, I would love to see Olga on the red carpet wearing this lavender Lanvin Fall 2016 RTW sleeveless gown which features an embroidered bodice and a micro pleated skirt. I think that this would be a very chic moment on the red carpet at Met Gala. While this would be one of the simpler looks that I can see on the red carpet at the Met, I think that Olga would be so chic and elegant on the red carpet in it. A chic vintage inspired gold chain strap clutch, a pair of dyed to match lavender sandals, yellow gold set diamond drop earrings, Veronica Lake waves, and very classic makeup would add the perfect finishing touches to what would be a very chic Met Gala red carpet moment. Last up for this post is the stunning British supermodel Suki Waterhouse. Suki has one look vying for a spot on my Best Dressed of the Year list already and I am hoping that she gives me something major on the Met Gala red carpet. I am really hoping that she wearing something crazy custom by a British brand like Mary Katrantzou, Christopher Kane, or Burberry. When I was trying to decide what runway look I most wanted to see Suki wearing on the red carpet I had a really hard time, I couldn’t even pick a runway look I would really ant to see her wearing a modified version of. So I went the route of picking a gown that I would love to see Suki wearing, even though it isn’t really Met Gala worthy. This Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2016 ‘Fairnburn’ gown rendered in crepe de chine and features a sheath silhouette with a plunging neckline, wave pattern trim, and a flounced bi-level bodice is crazy gorgeous and Suki would look effortlessly bohemian glamorous on the red carpet. To make this gown a major moment there really needs to be the addition of a dramatic train, that MIGHT make it really Met Gala worthy.
