The Cannes Film Festival is getting ready to kick off and I am very excited to see what the red carpets have in store. As I have been wishing for the past few days, and am not done yet, today I am making wishes for the L’Oreal Paris spokesmodels. Who wouldn’t want to get paid just to don couture and walk a red carpet? I’m in. It has been a hot minute since I have been taken by one of Hungarian model Barbara Palvin’s red carpet looks. Back in 2012, when I had know idea who she was, Barbara made me take notice of her by wearing a gorgeous Valentino Couture gown on the red carpet. I am hoping that she finally gives me another noteworthy look this year at the Cannes Film Festival. The two looks I picked for Barbara would for sure be impact making looks. Up first is a gorgeous Valentino Fall 2015 Couture ballgown with a crisscross neckline. I think that this is such a gorgeous look meshing edgy glam with princess-y elegance in only a way that Valentino Couture could. The other is a multicolored Armani Prive Fall 2015 Couture fringed gown with a deep plunge. I think that only a model could make this gown work on the red carpet as it is a very difficult look to pull off. Keeping the styling very simple will be the key to getting this look to really shine on the red carpet. I know Barbara has the potential to give me gorgeous looks, will this be her year to shine?Fan Bingbing is always one I look forward to seeing grace the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. It was at Cannes that I first discovered Fan when she took to the carpet wearing a gorgeous gown in a traditional Chinese print. Since then she has sadly stopped wearing her more traditional gowns but still gives very chic and glamorous moments. Last year she dominated Cannes wearing a custom Ralph & Russo cape sleeve gown and a floral emblazoned Marchesa ball gown. For this years red carpets I picked gowns from two of Fan’s go to designers. Up first is a light green Elie Saab Fall 2015 Couture sleeveless embellished ballgown. I picked this gown because I think Fan would look so elegant wafting down the red carpet in this design. She wore a similar style in pink from the same collection but the red carpet wasn’t grand enough to really let the gown. That wouldn’t be a problem in the open red carpet at Cannes. The other gorgeous gown I picked for Fan is a strapless Ralph & Russo Spring 2016 Couture gown with a beaded front and a full floral embellished cape train. This is one of the gowns that can only be worn at Cannes because of how dramatic it is and Fan is one of the few who I really think could deliver on making this a killer red carpet moment. One L’Orealista that hasn’t made an appearance at Cannes since 2010, and it was only for amfAR, is Jennifer Lopez. I am hoping that Jennifer will finally make the journey to walk the red carpets at the Palais de Festivals this year. Her stint as a judge on American Idol, the main reason she hasn’t been able to attend, is over and her Las Vegas residency show doesn’t pick back up until the last day of the festival, so I am hoping she will be on the red carpets adding a diva glamour that only Jennifer knows how to deliver. Honestly looking at the gowns I picked for Jennifer I know they are pretty tame for her, but are perfectly elegant for the Cannes red carpet. First is a gold Elie Saab Spring 2013 Couture fully embellished strapless gown, which while simplistic by JLo standards we all know that between some killer hair and makeup and a fierce pose that Jennifer would slay the carpet in this design. The other gown I picked is a gorgeous grey Marchesa Pre-Fall 2016 gown rendered in tulle and organza and features an a-line silhouette with a plunging neckline, a threadwork embroidered bodice and a dropped waist. This gown is pure elegant glamour and I think that we could see a softer more elegant side of the sultry songstress wearing this gown on the red carpet at the Cannes film festival. Last year Chinese actress Li Bingbing hit the Cannes red carpet wearing two very similar gowns by Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad respectively, much like what I’ve picked for her this year. I was more a fan of her princess Zuhair Murad than her Elie Saab (which was ruined by the quadruple stacked pumps.) I picked a gorgeous Elie Saab Spring 2015 Couture sleeveless hand painted floral ball gown for one of Li’s red carpet turns. I think that this gown is so chic and when it wasn’t worn during awards season or last years Cannes I was really surprised. This is exactly the type of look that I would want to wear if I were a L’Oreal lady on the Cannes red carpet. I would follow that look up with a strapless lemon yellow Zuhair Murad Spring 2016 Couture fully embroidered silk tulle ball gown. The Asian stars love to wear quadruple stacked platform shoes to add to their height on the red carpet. That is all well and good but they ruin looks. Each of these looks would allow Li to wear her quadruple stacked pumps and them not bring down either look, which is a blessing. Soo Joo Park showed us last year that she is one to watch and and able to hang with the major L’Orealista glamizons like Aishwarya Rai, Sonam Kapoor, & Blake Lively. I am very interested to see what the Korean supermodel will bring to the Cannes red carpet. I like to see models give something different than the film stars on the red carpet. I feel like models can get away with wearing some of the more avant garde looks that the film stars would be chastised for wearing. The first look I picked for Soo is the more avant garde look of the two with a tea length Giorgio Armani Fall 2016 RTW trapeze gown which features a buckled neckline and embellished polka dots. I can picture Soo flinging this dress around on the red carpet with chic black sandals and a red lip. The other look I would love to see Soo wearing is a much more classically elegant lavender Gucci Pre-Fall 2016 draped gown with some simply chic floral embroidery on the shoulders and bodice. This would give her a look for those craving something a little different and something that will satisfy those looking for glamorous everything.
The 2016 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 11, 2016 to May 22, 2016.
