#Cannes2016: L’Orealista’s Aishwarya, Cheryl, Doutzen, Helen, & Naomi Red Carpet Wish List

aishwarya-rai-2016-cannes-film-festival-loreal-wish-list (1)Ladies and gentlemen, the time is here. It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The Met Ball and Cannes Film Festival are just around the corner and today kicks off my wishes for the two most glamorous red carpets of the entire year. As per usual I will be kicking off my Cannes Film Festival wishes with the lovely ladies who represent L’Oreal Paris internationally. L’Oreal is one of the presenting sponsors of the Cannes Film Festival and as part of their partnership L’Oreal sends their spokesmodels (also called L’Orealista’s) to walk the red carpet at the Palais de Festivals just to add some extra glamour to the red carpet. The addition of the L’Oreal ladies is very welcomed, especially on days when the main slot premiere doesn’t feature an a-list actress. Aishwarya Rai has been often dubbed the Queen of Cannes because when the Bollywood starlet steps on the red carpet jaws drop and the fashion factor is immediately elevated. I would love to see Aishwarya hit the red carpet in some dramatic looks. Up first is a gorgeous emerald green strapless Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture sweetheart neck ball gown. This is one of the looks from this collection (one of my favorite Elie Saab collection’s ever) that I still cant fathom hasn’t been worn on a red carpet yet, and I think that Aishwarya would be the perfect woman to give this gown a major red carpet moment. The other bold look that I picked for Aishwayra is this beautiful caped peplum gown which beautifully meshes blush pink and a beautiful navy blue. When I first saw this gown on the runway back in January I said that it needed to be at Cannes and I figure that Aishwarya, Fan Bingbing, or Sonam Kapoor will get their glamorous hands on it, I would prefer Aishwarya but Sonam or Fan would also be perfect for this gown. Whatever she wears Aishwayra is most expected to give me at least one look that will end up on my best dressed list for the festival. cheryl-fernandez-versini-2016-cannes-film-festival-loreal-wish-list (1)I don’t know why but while the rest of the L’Orealista’s that make the journey to Cannes walk the red carpet on two days but British songstress Cheryl Fernandez-Versini usually only takes the red carpet for one day. In an Academy Award winning actress or someone like Blake Lively can make the two day commitment then why can’t Cheryl? Confusion aside, I digress. Usually Cheryl is one who gives me something to talk about. Last year it was about how stiff her modified Ralph & Russo gown was compared to the runway version. This year I am hoping that Cheryl gets it right again, because when she does it is oh so right. I still picked two looks for Cheryl, the first being a strapless black Stephane Rolland Spring 2013 Couture illusion paneled mermaid gown. Some of these illusion gown’s from this collection didn’t translate very well to the red carpet but I think that Cheryl has the gumption to make it work. The other look I picked for Cheryl is much more classic glam. Something you might see me say often as I make these wishes is that “I can’t believe that this gown hasn’t been worn on a red carpet yet” because at Cannes we sometimes see stars, especially the L’Oreal girls, dip into designer’s archives to find their gowns. This red Zuhair Murad Fall 2014 Couture strapless, ruffled, draped gown with a gorgeous side train is one of those looks I still can’t believe has not had a red carpet moment and Cheryl would do it more than enough justice on the Cannes red carpet. Whatever Cheryl chooses to wear on the red carpet I am hoping that she opts to walk the carpet twice, like everyone else. doutzen-kroes-2016-cannes-film-festival-loreal-wish-list (1)When it comes to former Victoria’s Secret model Doutzen Kroes on the Cannes red carpet I don’t expect big ball gowns, they just aren’t her thing. Outside of the two gorgeous gowns that I picked from the runways I would really like to see Doutzen take to the Cannes red carpet wearing a sleek custom Calvin Klein gown with a sheath silhouette and a dramatic train in a color that reminds me of dripping in gold or a bold blue. I tend to like Doutzen’s more more modern take on dressing for the Cannes red carpet and she has worn designers like Atelier Versace, Dior Mugler, Cavalli, and Calvin Klein in the past. For this years red carpet I picked two very chic looks for Doutzen from the runways. The first is another of those I can’t believe it’s never been worn before looks with a pale pink Armani Prive Spring 2014 Couture full beaded, strapless gown. This Armani gown mixes modernity and classic glamour in such a chic way and I believe that Doutzen would just shine on the red carpet with this look. The other is a much more modern take with a blackish, gold J. Mendel Fall 2016 RTW strapless, peplum gown. I think that this is the type of look I would love to see Doutzen wear, but it is a little bit darker and moodier than we are used to seeing her wear on the Cannes red carpet where she tends to wear lighter looks. helen-mirren-2016-cannes-film-festival-loreal-wish-list (1)It was early last year that Helen Mirren was announced as a L’Orealista. I got really excited when that announcement was made because of Cannes, but then Helen opted out of attending last year. I am hoping that this year Helen will make her Cannes debut for L’Oreal. While it would be her L’Oreal debut Helen is no stranger to Cannes, being one of the four women who has won the distinguished Best Actress award at the festival twice. Helen knows how to give us age appropriate looks that are also a little daring. I am really hoping that Helen brings her certain type of sexy elegance to the red carpet. The first look that I have picked for Helen is this white Elie Saab Spring 2016 Couture embellished, long sleeve, silk tulle ballgown. I think that this is a very Cannes gown being light, airy, and glamorous all things that I think of when I think of the perfect Cannes red carpet ensemble. The other look that I picked for Helen is a little sexier. This red long sleeve Reem Acra Fall 2016 RTW long sleeved, lace gown would showcase the more sexy side of Helen and do so in such an impactful manner. naomi-watts-2016-cannes-film-festival-loreal-wish-list (1)Rounding out the first wish for Cannes 2016 is last years newcomer Naomi Watts. Naomi killed her L’Oreal duties last year wearing a feathered Elie Saab Couture ballgown at the opening ceremony, an embroidered Altuzarra dress at the opening dinner, and a beautiful Ralph Lauren gown at the Mad Max: Fury Road premiere. So after she proved herself worthy last year I am very excited to see what she will give us this year. Up first for Naomi I have picked a gorgeous Alexis Mabille Pre-Fall 2016 multicolored lace gown with a sheer skirt. I have to see this gown at Cannes and I think that Naomi has that effortless glamour that could make this work for one of the big premiere red carpets, despite it being a little more relaxed that the typical grand gowns that we are used to seeing. The other look I picked for Naomi is my favorite look from the Armani Prive Spring 2016 Couture collection. This spaghetti strap ballgown with a pleated layered skirt and an embellished tank style blouse is something more along the lines that we are used to seeing on the Cannes red carpet and I think that Naomi would just look so effortlessly chic waltzing down the carpet at the Palais de Festivals in this couture creation.

The 2016 Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 11, 2016 and run through May 22, 2016.
